Why Ohio State lost 3 BCS games . . .

  • jhay78
. . . and why they won the '06 Fiesta Bowl and the '10 Rose Bowl.

Forget about coaching adjustments, team speed, X's and O's, or the other team being better than OSU. Here are the real reasons why the Buckeyes lost 3 BCS games in a row:

    1) all three games (Florida, LSU, Texas) played in a primetime slot on a Monday night. I now hate Monday night BCS games. Thankfully, '10 Rose Bowl played on a Friday. 2006 Fiesta Bowl (vs. ND) played on a Monday, but in a late afternoon time slot.

    2) all three games broadcast by Fox. I now hate Fox, even the games not involving OSU. '06 FIesta, '10 Rose broadcast by ABC, and called by Brent Musberger. I like Brent.

    3) Beanie Wells/ Ray Small. All games with those two guys in the lineup, OSU lost. Since Beanie was the best player on the field against LSU (maybe vs. Texas), we'll blame Ray Small.

    4) Coin toss- OSU lost coin toss in all three games. Won coin toss vs. ND (OK, they also lost the toss vs. Oregon, but decided to win anyway).

    5) Scored first- Buckeyes scored first all three games. ND scored first in '06 Fiesta (OK, OSU scored first vs. Oregon, but decided to win anyway).

Any other superstitious theories as to why Ohio State lost 3 BCS games in a row, because we know it had nothing to do with inferior talent/coaching or showing up and playing up to full abilities.:D

I wore the wrong boxers while watching the 3 BCS games that we lost :(

I wore an Ohio State jersey for the games vs. Florida, LSU, Texas however I did not own one in 2006 and I was tired and laid in my PJ's watching the Rose Bowl. Sorry guys, I won't wear my jersey again!

this is why Commando = GOAT, no chance of jinxing your team.

I think OSU lost 3 BCS games because they played 3 teams as good as or better than them.

    Tressel (by season)

2001: Outback vs. South Carolina L
2002: Fiesta vs. Miami (FL) W
2003: Fiesta vs. Kansas State W
2004: Alamo vs. Oklahoma State W
2005: Fiesta vs. Notre Dame W
    2006: BCS vs. Florida L
    2007: BCS vs. LSU L
    2008: Fiesta vs. Texas L
    2009: Rose vs. Oregon W

5-4 overall, 4-3 in BCS games, 1-2 in title games.

When you make 7 BCS games, you're playing some pretty strong teams. To win them all would vaunt OSU into herculean status. It's just not possible. Just making it there is a huge accomplishment. Most other teams would kill for that stat-line (4-3 overall, 1-2 in title games).

It's just OSU is held to a higher standard so a loss is unacceptable. Three in a row is disgraceful.

I already established in the opening post that that simply wasn't possible.

I think the Fox/Monday primetime things were the real reasons. ;)

The real reason OSU lost those 3 BCS games was because they weren't balanced in an offensive attack. Florida destroyed our passing game, as did LSU. We needed to implement a strong run game, but the coaching staff panicked too early and passed way too much, rendering it ineffective.

The Texas game was basically won until Russell blew coverage and let Texas win. For the record I think Texas was the better team overall, but that night the Bucks had that game won.

Since you want to be serious and all, I agree with that. No way should Beanie Wells have only carried the ball 20 times vs LSU.
And after losing Teddy Ginn vs. Florida, no way should they have attempted to pass so much.

    2 more superstitious reasons:

    1) Texas not playing for National Championship in '06, '07, '08 seasons, but after '05 and '09 seasons

    2) the other Big Ten BCS team won their bowl game- at the Orange Bowl (Penn State then, Iowa now)

How about those games were just on Fox in general... We're undefeated in BCS games contested on ABC.

8 BCS games for OSU all time.

    W's- '99 Sugar, '03 Fiesta, '04 Fiesta, '06 Fiesta, '10 Rose

    L's- 07' Fiesta, '08 Sugar, '09 Fiesta

Boise State beat Oklahoma in the '07 Fiesta and Georgia beat Hawaii in the '08 Sugar

our losses were in the "BCS NC game"

I think the reason they lost those 3 games is becuase those 3 teams were a lot better than oregon....

They lost against Florida because they were complacent, arrogant, prepared poorly, had a terrible game plan, played a great team, and played a motivated team. They lost against LSU because they weren't as good as LSU. They lost to Texas because they got nothing from the QB position.
