Where will Everett Golson land?

  • sleeper
He's not good so who cares?
  • thavoice
Would Michigan pick him up to give Harbaugh a year to recruit someone to bring in?
  • wkfan
Thought he already said he was going to Marshall?
  • WebFire
He's visiting South Carolina and I think GT.
  • bigkahuna
    We need more QBs
  • Scarlet_Buckeye
Most likely landing spots are South Carolina or Georgia.

Not bad. Both who could be very dangerous with a good QB. Golson isn't great, but he makes either team a contender. Especially Georgia. With a QB last year they could've been a much bigger factor.

I think South Carolina or Georgia.

@BruceFeldmanCFB: #ND didn't give a release to Everett Golson for schools it'll play in 2015 such as #Texas as well as several other BigTen tms, per source.

Haven't had internet for a week and just got home and saw this news. Got a lot of friends that are happy he's leaving. And I get that with the completely insane number of turnovers last year. But he's also the guy who took ND to an undefeated season and a NC appearance. Yes, they got blown out, but that's closer than ND has come in 20+ years.

So I hold no ill will towards Everett. He wants to get drafted, and it's going to be tough to do after the season he has last year and him splitting time with Zaire this year. So best of luck, EG.

If he graduates, he doesn't need a release.

Not true. Even with graduate student waivers and exceptions, the school still has to be OK with it. If the school objects, they can block it. Most don't. But some still will oppose the transfer if they gave the kid a scholarship for the next year and then he decides he wants to transfer, essentially leaving the team one scholarship short.

Gotta give the kid credit...he finally figured out what the rest of us already know Kelly is a lying, murdering prick.

Isn't that only if the school still gives him a scholarship for the next year? If he doesn't take a scholarship, then isn't there nothing to be waived?

No...a school can block graduate transfers if it chooses. And while Notre Dame didn't technically already grant Golson the scholarship for next year, they held one for him. They assumed he was going to be there next year. It wasn't until the writing on the wall that he was going to split time or lose time to Zaire that he decided that he wanted to take advantage of the graduate transfer rule. And that's fine. But Notre Dame could have had 1 more scholarship to open to an incoming freshman to help boost the incoming class.

And it's important to note that ND isn't blocking all options for Golson...just Texas and some B1G schools (probably those on the schedule and Michigan because...well why not?). The SEC has rules in place where they won't accept grad transfers if the kid was suspended for academic violations or violations of team rules for an extended period of time (like if you get kicked out of school for a year for Academic Dishonesty). So if he wants to go to the SEC, he'll have to petition for a waiver.

    Which will be granted.

But it seems like FSU is the likely landing spot.

    Absolutely.

FSU it is. He won't win anything there.

Bet the QBs already enrolled are loving this situation!

Worked well for Russell when he went to Wisky. I dont recall, would he have even been on teams radar by his career at his prvious college? I know his year at Wisky really upped his exposure. Not sure he can get more at FSU than he could at NBC U but at least he will likely be starting down there I guess.

Yes...he will no doubt be the starter next year at FSU. It's a win/win. Golson won't have to split reps and gets a chance to help his draft stock after a completely shitty year last year. And FSU gets an experienced QB to start next year. If not for Golson, FSU's most tenured QB would have been a redshirt sophomore who threw a total of 70 passes over the past 2 years. Granted, he did help FSU beat Clemson last year when Winston was suspended. But he's not a mobile QB and they would have to adjust the offense to fit him. So Golson gives them an option now while they redshirt their stud freshman and give him a year before he takes the reigns after Golson is gone.

Free crab legs sounds like a win to me.
