Wisky vs. Ohio State: B1G Championship Game
-
se-alumHeck of a game for Jones to have to step into. Defense will have to be better, and Herman will need to get the ball into the hands of playmakers. I couldn't believe Marshall getting virtually no touches yesterday. Blows my mind.
-
vball10setThat about sums it up.

ptown_trojans_1FWIW the line is all over the place. Opened at like Wisconsin -5, now -3.5 or 4.
I'm wary of this game. I do not like the matchups. I see Gordon running wild, over 250 yards and like 3 TDs.
I hope the OSU can gel on offense and won't miss a beat.
My fear is a shootout and Jones is trusted to lead a game winning drive. -

The Buckeye secondary is suspect but with guys like Bosa up front, I'm not overly concerned about Gordon. Since Wisky is pretty much one-dimensional on offense (IE: Gordon) I think the Badgers struggle to score.ptown_trojans_1;1680178 wrote:I see Gordon running wild, over 250 yards and like 3 TDs.
The real question will be whether or not the O-line can give Jones enough time to find open receivers. I see plenty of illegal procedure calls against Ohio State with Jones under center.
I'm really hoping that Meyer comes up with a viable running game to take the pressure off.
I'll consider it an incredible victory if the Buckeyes pull this off. -
vball10setI think we'll also see a lot of Jalyn in the wildcat...a lot

Agree but I'm afraid Wisky is already prepping for that and Meyer will go to the well too many times.vball10set;1680326 wrote:I think we'll also see a lot of Jalyn in the wildcat...a lot -

TiernanCollege football is won by QBs and unfortunately right now OSU doesn't have one. This could get ugly real fast and Wisky will keep the throttle down. Another Winter of "what if?" Is what I see happening.
-
Classyposter58I'm more worried about our run D than QB honestly. After seeing what Coleman and Langford did to us, Gordon absolutely terrifies me. Hell even UM was successful at running it right down our throats.
This game is gonna look like a D5 state championship lol, two teams with virtually no passing game just running it at each other all day -

I am; right now every decent running back they're going against is doing well against them. Neither Stave nor McAvoy are that good, but neither is Gardner and he seemed to hit on everything for a good chunk of Saturday's game, too. Depressingly, the defense is regressing back to last year's form down the stretch.believer;1680303 wrote:The Buckeye secondary is suspect but with guys like Bosa up front, I'm not overly concerned about Gordon. I do agree about the need for a good running game. Every available back (including Cardale, since I think I trust his legs more than his arm to make plays) needs to be getting touches and making things happen. -
ernest_t_bassLet's not forget that Jones beat out Barrett in the Spring. I think Jones will be just fine.
-
rydawg5He will be fine if we don't get behind in 2nd half. He won't make impact throws if needed. He's not going to win us a game, however we can win still as a team.

But this is one week to prepare. I doubt he had many snaps the last 10 or so weeks.ernest_t_bass;1680639 wrote:Let's not forget that Jones beat out Barrett in the Spring. I think Jones will be just fine.
The committee is hoping for a Wisky win so they dont have to bother with the whole injury situation. -
TiernanInsiders will tell you that Barrett beat out Jones on brains alone...the staff actually thought Jones was more athletically gifted but he constantly fucked up calls and decision making (Cleveburgh schools product Ya know....) then when given the opportunity JT made the most of it. I don't expect lightning to strike twice. Wisky is #8 Def vs the Run. Brace yourselves this one is going in deep and un-lubed.

FWIW Herman was quoted today as saying throughout the season Jones got 3 snaps for every 5 that Barrett took in practice.thavoice;1680670 wrote:But this is one week to prepare. I doubt he had many snaps the last 10 or so weeks.

I would be very surprised if that was true, but lets assume it is.mucalum49;1680726 wrote:FWIW Herman was quoted today as saying throughout the season Jones got 3 snaps for every 5 that Barrett took in practice.
Still nothing beats game time reps and he just doesnt have them.
The committee has to be losing sleep on this one and what they should do. Losing your QB that put up the numbers like Barrett did makes this a whole different team. -

They don't need to be losing sleep or anything over Ohio State right now. They have a game remaining against a team that (in human polls) is immediately outside the Top 10. They were 6th in the playoff poll coming into last week's games and, so, due to MSU losing, they should be fifth.
On Saturday, at a neutral field, against a near-Top-10 team, we'll all know if the team can jump on the field with Cardale instead of JT and still look good. If they lose, they're out by a mile. If they win in a "normal" football game and teams above them lose, they're in. If they win a horribly ugly game where both teams look like utter shit regardless of what anyone else does OR if they win and the teams above and near them also win, things get interesting because in the former, the committee will see that it's not the same team with Cardale and in the latter, there's a huge-ass log-jam with them and the two Big 12 teams (#4 TCU plays a chump, while both OSU and Baylor have tough, ranked opponents).
If the Barrett injury happened in the B1G championship game, then yeah, I'd agree the committee has some tough thinking to do about things concerning Ohio State and their place in the rankings. But now...at the least, there's a full week of football with a lot of high-profile games to sort everything out. All the committee has to do is sit back, stay the current course and let Friday and Saturday sort out who the top four teams are. -
DeyDurkie5This dumb motherfucker better have a dumbed down playbook. Screens, short passes with a high percentage and the run game better be on point. Bet the house on wisc first quarter
-
se-alumOSU will have to let Jones stretch the field to be able to run against Wisky. By all counts, Jones has a ridiculous arm with nice touch. Even if he doesn't complete the long ball, you can't shrink the field against good defenses.
-
Terry_TateIt still doesn't feel real that we're going to watch Cardale Jones start the second biggest game of the Urban Meyer era on Saturday. Cardale freaking Jones.

Couldn't agree more. Jones in fact does have a rocket for an arm. Dude can sit on one knee at mid field and throw into the endzone. Complete or not, OSU has to throw the ball down field. Mix in with short passing game. Jones is also a better runner than many know. Bringing him down is no easy task at 250+. I am confident OSU will have a good game plan for Jones. He has been in the system for 3yrs. I dont' expect fire works from him, but I am cautiously optimistic.se-alum;1680742 wrote:OSU will have to let Jones stretch the field to be able to run against Wisky. Game is going to come down to OSU defense "containing" the run attack of Wisky and also turnovers. Gordon will get his 100+. We cannot let him get 200+. Stack the damn line and force Wisky to beat you by throwing. Easier said than done I know. -
vball10setI also like the fact that we're the underdog in this game, and that should allow us to play a little "looser".
-
rrfanThis game scared me before the injury. Now with Barrett out I see either a close win by the Buckeyes or a blow out win by Wisky. It will all be up to the defense that needs to step way up!

I tend to agree with this. Now what "a lot" will be / mean, Idk... but I would envision Marshall sees somewhere around 5-10 snaps in the "Wildcat" formation.vball10set;1680326 wrote:I think we'll also see a lot of Jalyn in the wildcat...a lot
