Classyposter58I have to say his article in the Detroit Free Press was an embarrassment to sports journalism. As a sports writer you have to be competent to some degree, yet he is actually trolling hard using a column to do so. These are actual quotes from his article...
"But Michigan State's disappointing effort against the Buckeyes only reaffirmed the nation's reluctance in trusting any hype regarding the Big Ten.
The Spartans fell out of my weekly Associated Press Top 25 poll altogether."
"Two-loss Big Ten teams are the equivalent of a four-loss SEC or Pac-12 team."
"The Buckeyes are now the official captain of the garbage scow that's Big Ten football, moving up to No. 13 on my ballot"
And his actual Top 25
1. Florida State
2. Mississippi State
3. Alabama
4. Oregon
5. TCU
6. Arizona State
7. Baylor
8. Auburn
9. Mississippi
10. UCLA
11. Georgia
12. Arizona
13. Ohio State
14. Clemson
15. Georgia Tech
16. Marshall
17. Duke
18. LSU
19. Kansas State
20. Nebraska
21. Notre Dame
22. Oklahoma
23. Utah
24. Texas A&M
25. Louisville
I've actually been texted by a few friends from Detroit who said he might get fired for this, wouldn't be too shocked -
sleeperHe's doing it for attention not for college football. He should be fired.

Midstate01I think we all agree the B1G stinks. But based on his voting logic, I don't understand how he has Fsu #1. The acc is by far the worst conference.

Classyposter58Yeah I agree ETB the B1G isn't even that bad. Thing is now that turf has been prevalent for awhile up here in the Midwest among high schools all these kids are coming up in Spread offenses with a ton of skills as opposed to even 10 years ago where few teams would run that offense. Best thing about the Spread is you don't need to hit to practice it, hell you can go full speed no pads and run the plays to a tee just as you would in game

TiernanYTF would anyone care WTF some douche from the Detroit Free Press says? The day Church's Fried Chicken quits offering 3 for 1 coupons in that rag, 90% of their readers (well "readers" is a stretch...) that POS shuts down for good.

Just shows how biased the writers are, and in the second largest metro area in the B1G no lessvball10set;1673225 wrote:and this is worthy of it's own thread why??? -
Al BundyThe bias is really shown when a bad team beats a good team. When a bad SEC team beats a good SEC team, journalists talk about the depth of the conference. When a bad Big Ten team beats a good Big Ten team, journalists talk about how the entire conference sucks. I really don't care what the talk/write about, but when they are voting in polls which indirectly influence the committee, it is a problem.

By my count 1 good team from each conference (Georgia and Wisconsin) has lost to a bad team from the conference, so that doesn't seem like much of an argument this year.Al Bundy;1674173 wrote:The bias is really shown when a bad team beats a good team. What about the SEC East leading Missouri losing to Big 10 bottom dwelling Indiana? Not much made of that.Mulva;1674197 wrote:Y

That is because no one is talking about Missouri as anything special or even having any chance at making the playoffs. Unlike Big Ten East leading Ohio State who lost AT HOME to last place in the ACC COASTAL Virginia Tech LOL!!!Benny The Jet;1674201 wrote:What about the SEC East leading Missouri losing to Big 10 bottom dwelling Indiana? Missouri is 7-2, leading their division, and unranked. So much bias!!!Benny The Jet;1674201 wrote:What about the SEC East leading Missouri losing to Big 10 bottom dwelling Indiana? Not much made of that. -

Auburn lost to Texas A&M. At the time of their matchup Auburn was #3 and A&M was unranked. It showed the "depth" of the conference. If the Buckeyes lose a conference game to an unranked opponent, everyone talks about how the entire conference sucks.Mulva;1674197 wrote:Y

OSU hasn't lost a conference game to an unranked opponent since 2011, so again, that doesn't seem like much of a valid argument. If anything, the fact that it hasn't happened in 3 seasons kind of verifies how far below OSU the rest of the conference is and has been.Al Bundy;1674231 wrote:Auburn lost to Texas A&M. Regarding perception, the playoff top 25 SEC teams posted 0 OOC losses and wins over WVU, Kansas State, Boise State, Wisconsin, and Clemson.
The playoff top 25 B1G teams posted OOC wins over Cincinnati and Miami and lost to LSU, TCU, Oregon, and Virginia Tech.
Look at recent bowl records, BCS records, championship game results, recruiting rankings, NFL draft picks, etc. It takes more bias to refuse that the SEC has consistently been the top conference than to acknowledge it.
It sucks that OSU has 0 margin for error in the B1G, but it isn't unfair. It's the same scenario for FSU. They got jumped by Oregon this week even though they haven't lost since 2012. It's because they aren't beating anybody worth anything.
