2015 Recruiting Chatter

  • reclegend22
Might as well open up a new thread now that 2014 has passed. I'll start by posting about my team.

Duke Commits: Luke Kennard, 6-5, SG (#3 in class)

Duke Offers: Chase Jeter, 6-10, C (#7 in class), Malik Newman, 6-3, SG (#1 in class)

Whom I want, but not yet offered: Diamond Stone, 6-10, C (#1 in class); Matt Ryan, 6-6, SF (#19 in class)

Coach K will be in Las Vegas today to visit with Jeter and to work on closing the deal. Duke is believed by many to be the front runner in this race, but it'd be nice if K could get the kid to commit early. Jeter has maintained for awhile now that he'll announce in early May.

Copping Jeter would give Duke two top ten centers in two consecutive classes. This is a big recruit for the Blue Devils.

    Indiana:

    Commits:
    -None

    Who I want/offered:
    -Stephen Zimmerman (C, #4)
    -Jalen Coleman (G, #31)

Those are the two I really like for Indiana, obviously Crean will be after more than a 2 man class.

Laley, it looks like UNLV fans seem to think they have a pretty good shot at Zimmerman (not surprising, considering he's a hometown kid from Bishop Gorman). This would be a huge grab for the Rebels considering they already have a top five class for '14, but they've already signed a pretty decent big man in Goodluck Okonoboh for this coming season. Not sure if that'll play into things.

    Is Indiana considered a leader?

Zimmerman! (No, not George), but thats the kid I was thinking of when you posted on another thread about Jeter being Gorman's big man. I couldnt think of the name so I didn't post but thought to myself that Jeter wasnt even the best C on his own team. Seems like Stephen Zimmerman has been in HS for 5 years now because he has been talked about a ton already.

How are you going to mention UNLV but not make any mention of their HOF coach? Haha. You would think that as long as he is a coach there, the top recruits would be lining up to (not) sign with them or transfer there (damn you Roscoe Smith).

Yeah, from everything I have heard, Zimmerman is Gorman's most dominant "center." But Duke is not recruiting him and he isn't interested in Duke, so I only mentioned Jeter. (I also made him sound like Wilt Chamberlain haha.) I don't think Jeter is a natural center anyway on the college level. If Duke is able to pick up Diamond Stone in '15 -- as I said, no offer yet -- then Jeter would play PF. Amile Jefferson will still be around, though, so that might hurt Duke's chances depending on how Jefferson's game continues to develop. Lots of ifs there.

As for Dave Rice, I have no clue how he continues to bring in the top flight talent he does. He gets lot good local guys, but he also snagged a No. 1 Draft pick from Canada. And this year the #5 class overall. He's getting guys that not even Jerry Tarkanian got on a regular basis. The Shark only coached three McDonald's All-Americans at UNLV.

Rec, to answer your earlier question...I have no clue on IUs chances lol. Early on, they were way up there. Visiting him, he came on an unofficial. Things looked like IU would be in it till the end.

I haven't heard anything to make me think that isn't the case anymore, but at the same time, I haven't heard his name mentioned as frequently. A lot of that may be due to it being in season, as well as Crean still recruiting the 2014 players. Either way, we should know a lot during the spring recruiting period.

I'm really interested as to why Zimmerman is not on Duke's radar at all (other than the obvious fact that K is now recruiting Jeter). Seems like there was never any interest from Zimmerman at all, though after the March of the Plumlees the past five years I can't say I am surprised.

Hoping that Okafor works to really change that perception.

I'm shocked Duke isn't interested in Zimmerman :) Here's his picture:

Worth the read. Sheds some light on what happens AFTER recruiting decisions. I'd imagine some of those conversations are flat out nasty and others go something like this. On the outside, we rarely get to see this side of it.

Ohio has a nice showing of top recruits for the 2015 class.

Luke Kennard, Carlton Bragg, AJ Harris, Kyle Ahrens, and Esa Ahmad. Plus there is usually one or two guys that have a great summer and move up pretty quickly.
