Because he showed up to practice in sunglasses so he was put in a room away from the sun. Besides he was a lazy player who was known to bad mouth the program.

    This.

And he was diagnosed with a concussion, and from what Sportscenter reported last night, the Dr. who is treating the player said what Leach did to the kid, making him stand up in a dark room, actually aided in the recovery from the Concussion.

So like others have said, this was strictly about the money. They finally found a decent enough reason to dump Mike Leach, and the jumped on it.

Wonder if this hurts them in the recruiting wars? Leach had done a pretty good job of recruiting Texas and Big 12 states. Will recruits start shying away?

This is really starting to make Texas Tech look pretty bad. If this wasn't a "celebrities" son, I don't think any of this happens. Texas Tech might end up with egg all over their face. Too bad they seem determined to get rid of a coach who was successful there.

    This is fucking bullshit...

    NO REASON TO FIRE HIM
  • Preacher
Sounds like to me the AD was jealous of the coach.

I think he was a little overrated as a coach. He definitely made Tech instantly better than they had been, but he really didn't improve them all that much from his first couple of years until now.

Outside of the fluke that was last season, they were consistently a middle of the pack, 4-5 loss team. It's a gimmick offense that isn't going to win championships. Tech might not be able to do better than Leach, but I'm not sure Leach can do better than Tech either.

Somebody will pick him up. He won't win any championships scoring 58 points when he allows the opposition to score 61.

Tech really screwed themselves. Leach raised the profile of their program and made Lubbock a place that recruits wanted to go, but it makes you wonder now what will happen. Places a lot of doubt in the minds of recruits and coaches. If I knew that i was going to be potentially fired because I showed a id some tough love I wouldn't want to go there

Looks like the fat little girlfriends won.

    ^^^^

LOL I'd forgotten he'd made that comment until ESPN brought up a timeline of his "indiscressions" while he's been on the job on Sportscenter

When this came out, I immediately assumed Adam James has a fat little girlfriend.

If you watched the video that was posted the "electrical closet" is actually the meeting room for the visiting coach press conference... not exactly what you think of, a tiny cramped space.... lots of room to move around in

10 years of taking the team to a bowl game.

I have a feeling TT is going to regret this firing both on the field and financially.
  • darbypitcher22
Its definately going to hurt in the wallet...
  • mucalum49
Any job openings left for Mike Leach or will he take the 2010 season off? I'm sure any school will want a coach that led his past team to 10 straight bowl games
  • ricola
TT is firing him "with cause" , meaning if it holds up, they don't owe him a cent. They obviously didn't think that highly of him, or they'd have fought for him to keep him. (can you imagine the same thing at OSU? OSU would be sticking up for him not looking to can him) This is TT's way to get rid of him. Of course Leach will fight it, and they'll probably end up reaching a compromise buyout unless one side or the other has a lock tight case (not likely). True he got them on the map, but they have enough of a name now they could get a decent coach to keep it going, maybe even get it to the next level.

Someone mentioned before.........I like June Jones to TT.

Just flat out stupid move by Leach. I agee, I don't think it was as bad as some are making it out to be. And I really believe that James father is an idiot (he nausiates me on air talking about himself!). I think Leach was probably trying to send a message to "dad" not to mess with me. But he used ZERO common sense in doing what he did. You just don't do what he did in this day and age. He lost his job over a power struggle with a parent. He could have gone a different route and sent a message. This one was just flat out stupid.

I could see Leach getting an OC job fairly quickly. I also wouldn't be suprised if Central Michigan decided to give him a look rather then hiring Stripling full time. Many teams would love to have an offense like this and I don't see this story hurting him.
