Inside the Numbers..OSU and Florida State
-
FootwedgeThrowing out the Bethune Cookman and the Florida A&M games, FSU has beaten 4 teams with winning records. Ohio State has beaten 6 teams with winning records. Total wins/losses for FSU opponents...59-73. OSU opponents are a combined 62-70. Now granted, FSU has done some serious run-up-the-score points and are the better team on paper. I really dont want to listen to the Mark Mays of the world bashing Ohio State's schedule without bashing Florida State's schedule.

Check your FSU numbers again. 61-71. If Florida had beaten Georgia Southern, they have would have the same opponents record. Counting Bethune Cookman and Florida A&M, FSU would be up 6. BC is 10-3, A&M is 3-9. BC just beat A&M on the 23rd by a score of 29-10.Footwedge;1545353 wrote:Throwing out the Bethune Cookman and the Florida A&M games, FSU has beaten 4 teams with winning records. Both have 5 wins against teams that are sub .500 and FSU has wins against 6 bowl eligible teams while OSU has 5 wins. Penn State is not eligible.
Opponents who were ranked in AP Poll(if you would like to us another poll, be my guest) at the time that they played....OSU - 3(#23 Wisconsin, #16 Northwestern and as of now #11 Michigan State)....FSU will have 4 next week(#25 Maryland, #3 Clemson, #7 Miami, and as of now #24 Duke). -

It should just be assumed by now that FW doesn't properly know how to work with numbers.sportswizuhrd;1545358 wrote:Check your FSU numbers again. -

That's the dumbest statistic to use. Northwestern is not a top 25 team. You look at the schedule as those teams are now.sportswizuhrd;1545358 wrote:

I don't think its as dumb as people make it out to be. Teams change for better or worse throughout the season. Northwestern was pretty good to start the season but injuries have pretty much derailed them. Similarly a team like USC wouldn't have been looked at as a good win early on but now they are considered a quality win for UCLA. There can be SOME merit to it depending on how/why teams change.lhslep134;1545361 wrote:That's the dumbest statistic to use. Northwestern is not a top 25 team. It is because that means someone is counting beating a top 10 Florida team.... This is a terrible way to look at it. This is vols fans logic.xKoToVxSyNdRoMe;1545364 wrote:I don't think its as dumb as people make it out to be. Teams change for better or worse throughout the season. Nonsense, you judge them by what they were when the teams played. At that time, Northwestern was a very good team and played like it against tOSU. That they turned to crap after that means nothing.lhslep134;1545361 wrote:That's the dumbest statistic to use. Northwestern is not a top 25 team. You look at the schedule as those teams are now. -

As I said, it depends how it happens and how a team changes. Things can happen that make a team better or worse as the season goes on. Not saying its something to hang your hat on at all, but there can be done merit. Northwestern is a big win, but they were better when OSU played them. Can't just completely ignore how teams change throughout the year.Midstate01;1545379 wrote:It is because that means someone is counting beating a top 10 Florida team.... Does that mean we should take into account that Georgia was a very good team when Clemson beat them , and that Miami was a good team when FSU beat them?queencitybuckeye;1545386 wrote:Nonsense, you judge them by what they were when the teams played. Both teams had cake schedules. Lets not pretend anything is different. The second best team in the big ten lost to Notre Dame, The second best ACC team lost to Florida State and South Carolina.ccrunner609;1545413 wrote:B10 is better then the ACC. Only stat I need.
The only stat that will matter is the score at the end of the OSU vs FSU national championship game. I will be rooting for OSU but I do think FSU is better across the board. They have a better Quarterback and a better defense. I hope I am wrong. -
ptown_trojans_1FSU has destroyed people when they needed, OSU has not.
FSU's closest margin of victory is 14.
End of story. -

Why the hell do you care so much about margin of victory?ptown_trojans_1;1545431 wrote:FSU has destroyed people when they needed, OSU has not.

I care very little about a 20 pt win vs a 50 pt win. -
pmoney25Why are you so angry if an objective fan says anything that doesn't put Ohio State in a positive light?

Eye test. Plus, if the schedules are close, margin of victory matters.SportsAndLady;1545437 wrote:Why the hell do you care so much about margin of victory?

And honestly, FSU has never been in trouble this year, while OSU has. -

Who said I'm angry? Just have now heard ptown mention the margin of victory thing 25 times now, so just wondering why beating someone by 50 gives him such a hardonpmoney25;1545440 wrote:Why are you so angry if an objective fan says anything that doesn't put Ohio State in a positive light? -

IggyPride00One school played the Little Sisters of the Poor each week.
The other played the Deaf, the Dumb & the Stupid.
What an exciting national championship it is going to be.
It is a travesty the SEC is penalized like this for having the cojones to stack the conference with teams that are worth a shit, but unfortunately have to play eachother.
FSU and OSU in the final sends the wrong message about College Football, that scheduling patsies and playing in a weak conference is more important than fostering an environment of competition where you don't get rewarded for the name on the front of the jersey. -

It's the last year for the BCS. Next year you'll have a whole new system to piss and moan about. -

It's not rhetorical, it's subjective. If you beat a good team (not a ranked team but a good team) when you played them, you beat a good team.lhslep134;1545460 wrote:Dude it was a rhetorical question. You're flat out wrong.
Northwestern was a good team when they played tOSU. Miami was a good team when they played FSU. Georgia was an overrated team from day one and knowledgeable fans knew it would be a matter of time before their dbag coach took them to their actual level. -
IggyPride00Why do Buckeye honks get so bent out of shape about schedule talk?
To me it would be like leaving a 1 loss Big 10 team out of the title game in favor of an undefeated MAC Conference champion. Buckeye fans would be enraged about such a miscarriage of justice.
Leaving a 1 loss SEC team out is the equivalent to that in 2013, and everyone should be outraged.
