Bringing The B1G Back to National Respectability

I also agree with recruiting. Heck, it's quite amazing Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan State and Northwestern have been so competitive with their recruiting. Nebraska's recruiting, while still good, isn't nearly what it was in the 90's. It's a really difficult place to recruit if you aren't able to consistently poach talent from across the country to come to Lincoln.

I think recruiting falls under the coaching category. We've seen that it's possible to get talent to these Big Ten schools. Zook actually recruited really well to Illinois, but he's a terrible coach. Hoke is a hell of a recruiter, but, again, the development aspect isn't there. The good coaches recruit and develop their players. There aren't enough of those coaches in the Big Ten.

Sorry, but with all of your rambling you lumped it in with everything else. Couldn't take your post seriously because you basically just named every single possible thing wrong.

Except that's not true nowadays. The article I linked cited relevant NFL Draft data, check it out. It's a pretty scary thought as an Ohio State fan, that the other schools in the conference are showing no signs of improvement through recruiting.

Yes. The middle/bottom of the SEC and that Pac 12 has started to take over in recruiting. UCLA, Washington, Oregon and Stanford have joined USC with some nice classes out west.

As he said earlier, for 2013 you had 13 of the top 29 from the SEC with Missouri at 41. 8 of the top 39 from the Pac 12. In-comparison, Indiana had a solid class at #38, but that ranked 4th in the B1G.

Another thing that probably hurts recruiting a bit is the massive migration to the sun belt. The South is growing and turning out more athletes while we've became stagnant here

That was the object of this topic. I laid it all out since someone was wondering why. Its all quite obvious.

Is it not possible or are the coaches not getting it done? I don't believe it's not possible to get big time recruits to the B1G, but the schools have to be willing to put the money into the coaching staffs to do it. You're not going to skate by with low salary assistants and still get the top recruits. It's all about the money, and what the schools are willing to spend. OSU and UM are the best recruiting schools in the B1G for a reason, they have respectable head coaches as well as respectable staffs.

Every college coach (including assistants) at a big time program worth a damn can recruit, or else they wouldn't be there. I can't definitively say why the best recruiting classes are migrating South and West, but I can definitively say it's a lot more than just the coaches. Facilities play a HUGE role.
