12/29/09 Miami vs. Wisconsin Champs Sports Bowl
-
darbypitcher22I picked Wisky last night, and they came through in big time fashion for me. Like others have said the game could have been a lot worse, but Wisky missed a lot of opportunities to really put this one away with emphatic fashion
-
jpake1Like I said a long time ago at the beginning of the season when almost everybody was all over their nuts-- Harris and The U will show everybody exactly what they're worth. A small handful of games doesn't make one elite. It makes one noticeable.
-
ytownfootballGreat opening act for the Big 10. Big 10 has now equaled their win total for last seasons bowl games, I certainly think they'll improve.
It's amusing to me how many speak to how badly Miami played as opposed to how well Wiscy played. The fact of the matter is Bielema out coached the coon dog shit out of Shannon, and Miami. Wiscy's game plan was to rush Jacory hard and they dominated the line of scrimmage to the point of hilarity on defense. Shannon had no answer, he adjusted to nothing to get Harris more time to get passes off. They did try to change up personnel at the point of attack but apparently a designed roll out was not an option? How about a quick slant route? Maybe a wr screen? Middle screen? Any of these would serve the purpose of slowing down the rush, even had they not worked for big yards. They shot their wad with trick plays by the end of the first quarter, tied at 7? That was just stupid in my book.
Meanwhile, Wiscy continued to pound the ball w/Clay (121 yards), and literally put on a tight end frickin' clinic, (what 15 completions to TE's?). I can understand Clay getting his but there is no reason not to stop that many completions to the TE's. Shannon...make a frickin' adjustment.
In the end you had Bielema basically doing what so many clowns on here criticize, play Treselball, and they did it to perfection. Not one damn fancy ass reverse statue, hook and lateral, triple read option run and shoot flavor of the day offensive play. Beautiful...just Beautiful.
On a side note, anyone who thinks the cold doesn't matter to the teams in the south should take note of how much time the announcing crew spent poking fun at all the Miami players hugging the wee little heaters provided on the Miami sidelines...it was just under 50 degrees and they were freezing their nuts off. Please don't tell me temps. don't matter to the south ever again. -
jpake1^That is the first time that I actually saw a southern team seem out of their element because of the weather. However, I don't know if it really had any baring on the game. Wisconsin pimped slapped them, and would have in 80 degree weather. They were next to the heaters, but once they stepped onto the field, it was time to go. Obviously they didn't go far.
I wish more bowl games were played around this area. Not because I think the Big 10 would benefit from it. But just because that is what football is about. -
jpake1BTW, and I could be wrong. I thought I did see them pull at least one "fancy" play. It wasn't ran very well either because it went for a loss.

darbypitcher22Someone should chop up every play of last night's game and Wisky's TE play and use it as a clinic talk... great point

ytownfootballWhat's up with this thread? How come we can't post on it anymore?
-
ytownfootballNevermind, couldn't get to page 9 for some reason?

And maybe send it to Jim Tressel before Friday. Wisconsin had more completions to their TE's in this game that OSU has to theirs all season...do you think we'll attempt to catch Oregon off guard by going to Ballard/Stony a lot? Probably not.darbypitcher22 wrote: Someone should chop up every play of last night's game and Wisky's TE play and use it as a clinic talk... great point -
darbypitcher22Our TE's aren't exactly burners... we don't have any like #84...

No. But that doesn't mean we can't use them at all.darbypitcher22 wrote: Our TE's aren't exactly burners... we don't have any like #84... -

Yet another ignorant post. Ohio Sate has thrown to their tight end more this year than any of the past 8 seasons.Red_Skin_Pride wrote:

If you were knowledgeable, you would know that Wisconsin runs a 2 AND 3 Tight End offense the majority of the time. Giving Wisconsin THREE TIMES as many Tight Ends to throw to. In the past 8 years has Wisconsin had a single wide out as talented as Santonio Holmes, Michael Jenkins, Chris Gamble, Ted Ginn Jr, Anthony Gonzalez, Brian Robiske, Brian Hartline or Devier Posey? Check NFL rosters!!! WHY IN THE HELL would you throw to a tight end when you can throw to wide outs like Ohio State has had the past 8 years???Red_Skin_Pride wrote:

devil1197OSU is running more two TE sets with Jake and Stoneburner this year and you should see more of them on the field together since Carter and Small won't be playing. Stoneburner is very athletic for a TE.

Chambers was drafted in 2001, before the Tressel haters came to be.derek bomar wrote:

If you were knowledgeable, you'd realize that in those 2 and 3 TE sets, 70-75% of the time they are running the ball.Big Gain wrote:

Oh, and Lee Evans and Chris Chambers come to mind.
Both were better than Robo, Hartline, and Gamble.
And Wisky doesn't need to throw to WR's when it's a school that rushes 70% of the time. -
DaBrowns41
Lee Evans was more than halfway decent. He was drafted 13th overall and has 38 TD's in 6 seasons despite the fact that Buffalo hasn't had anybody at QB since he's been there.ccrunner609 wrote: Wow you listed 2 recievers that were at least half way decent.
In college he was a 2 time first team All-Big Ten. He holds the Wisconsin TD record by WR's with 26 total in 2 seasons starting and another season as a #2 and #3 WR. -

?ccrunner609 wrote: ^^^Like I said, you listed 2 recievers.....now you have narrowed it to 1.
Um. Ok.
2 receivers isn't bad considering a team that runs as much as Wisconsin does and utilizes two TE sets.
That's like expecting Alabama to put out WR's every season despite being a run first team.
It's terrible logic.
