Some genius friend of mine decided to get married on 11/30/13.

Am I allowed to skip his wedding?

Had a friend that got married on OSU-UM day before. My brother was in the wedding, and the bride wasn't very happy when all the Groomsmen had pocket radios with earpieces at the alter. I walked in a minute before the wedding, and snuck out before the bride and groom walked back down the isle.

Are you in the wedding or just expected to attend?

Expected to attend for sure. Probably in it as well, but I can't confirm or deny that yet. Maybe he'll respond to this thread and tell me

I'm a groomsman in a wedding on Sept. 14th. Wasn't happy about the date but it's only Cal and he's a long time friend so there was no hesitation in accepting.

A wedding on OSU/UM game day though is an entirely different matter.

What time is the wedding. The year it happened to me was the year they experimented with a later start time. With a noon start, the outcome of the game could be determined by the time the wedding starts.

I am not sure of the time but I anticipate an afternoon wedding, making virtually every time except a night game unfeasible.

Not an OSU or UM fan so it didn't matter to me but 3 years ago my sister and brother in law got married on the day of the game. The game started at 12 and the wedding wasn't until 3:30. So it wasn't that bad because we got to watch the game while getting ready and then by the 3rd quarter when we had to start doing pictures the game was easily over. He was in the Air Force and overseas and that was the only Saturday that he was able to get back home for.

Just stupid planning on their part, unless they had no other option of course. If they have an excuse, go. If not, fuck 'em.

    Date was set months ago.

Is the wedding in Ohio or Michigan? If not, then I can't hold it against them for scheduling their wedding that day because The Game wouldn't be a scheduling concern for people outside of those states. If it is in Ohio or Michigan, then they are morons. It always drives me nut when people say they don't care of they schedule thier wedding during an OSU game because they aren't fans. They need to realize that in these two states it doesn't matter if they're fans, because most of their guests are. As someone else already pointed out, the wedding may have been scheduled months ago, but The Game is always the final Saturday of November.

    My stance:

Tell your friend that he'll probably be divorced in three years, max, anyway, so fuck him and his wedding and when he's ready for Wife #2, pick a better day and you'll be there.

Some might say that's "hard-line", but man, priorities...priorities.

I'd agree with this thought process. Those selfish SOB's better be doing an evening wedding because if they have it any time before 4 they should get no wedding gifts.

My wife thought it was ridiculous that I pushed for our wedding to be on a bye week. But, we had a full church and reception and I think people were happy to have a reason to get drunk on a weekend with no game.

My brother and future SIL scheduled their wedding on the Browns/Buckeyes bye weekend this year. Pretty pumped about it.

As for the wedding...just go. I attended a wedding during the OSU/Wisconsin game a few years ago when OSU was #1 and Wisconsin was #18. It was a bummer, but we just watched the game at the reception hall. Turned out to be a pretty fun group gathered around the TV, and then after we got our asses kicked, we enjoyed the free booze and had a great time.
