Is Rich Rod's job on the hot seat?
-
redfalconAFTER NEXT YEAR?
He showed improvement this year, going from 2-10 to 5-7, but if he doesn't go at least 6-6 next year, is he on the hot seat? Most schools give three years to perform. Can Rich get it done, and if he doesn't will they be looking to replace him if they miss another game?
And lets actually have an intelligent conversation about this.

sleeperI think if he manages to lose the bowl game, he's definitely on the hot seat.
-
dwccrewWell, let's get the facts straight first. He was 3-9 in his first season, not 2-10.
I don't see Michigan being any better than 6-6, but they could possibly surprise the Big Ten. If they go 8-4, he is safe. 6-6 will only buy him one more year in which he better get them to a BCS game. -
OldDanTuckerThey went 3-9 his first year. IMO Rich rod will be gone next year unless they go 8-4 next year. 6-6 will not cut it in AA. That being said I really dont think he will be back after next season. He needs 5 years at least to turn the program around and get "his players" in there and developed enough to compete. With the new ad coming in he will not be coming back unless they go above expectations.

mallymal614He actually did worse in the Big Ten this year. So he must win about 9 games next year to keep his job in my opinion.
-
jordo212000Probably needs to win 8-9 games IMO
-
slingshot4everI think he has the 2010 AND 2011 seasons to get it together. His offensive scheme is so complex that you have to be willing to give him 4 total years.
-
redfalcon^^^^^^^This is what I have seen and heard, but I don't know if Michigan will give it to him.
-
Mr. 300He must stay!!! Name him lifetime coach please.

I don't know that I buy that. Tulane went 12-0 in his second year as OC there, Clemson did fine during his two years on their staff, and WVU won 9 games his second season. Finding someone who can coach a defense for him is more important to his success or failure than crutching onto the complexity of his offensive scheme IMO.slingshot4ever wrote: I think he has the 2010 AND 2011 seasons to get it together. If he is a great coach he should not need "his players". Meyer,Saban,Tressel,Carroll etc all had decent seasons right away in year one and continued to get better after that. A stat I saw the other day was that RichRod is 37-38 as a head coach without Pat White as his Qb. If thats true he needs to go. You are not always going to have that athlete at Qb.Great coaches muster up a decent season with lesser talent. Remember Meyer won a title with a drop back guy in Leak and then a spread guy in Tebow. Two different type qbs. Brown won with Young and now possibly Mccoy. Two different qbs. RichRod knows how to coach one way. A great coach sees his talent and coaches to it.OldDanTucker wrote: They went 3-9 his first year. IMO Rich rod will be gone next year unless they go 8-4 next year. 6-6 will not cut it in AA. Little DannyIf the Wolverines don't go 8-4, it will only be a matter of how fast Jim Harbaugh can come back to Ann Arbor.
-
ZombieKillerThis was his 1st year with his "own" players. Next year is the breaking point for Rich Rod. They need to win 8-9 games, plus a bowl game for him to keep his job.
-
2shoesHe's had two sub .500 seasons, with bottom of the conference finishes. This is Michigan, that's not going to cut it. If he doesn't have significant improvement next season, 8-9 wins minimum, the seat won't be hot...it'll be empty!
-
pkebkerWith a new AD, he must win 8 games or he'll be gone.

Big Gain
The offense isn't the problem. DEFENSE. Michigan people are happy with a coach whose plan for success is winning games 42-35? If Michigan doesn't finish in the top 4 in the Big Ten and make significant improvements on defense, then he's gone.slingshot4ever wrote: I think he has the 2010 AND 2011 seasons to get it together. Disagree. What are they supposed to do, score 50 a game? Their defense is terrible and his teams aren't designed for physical play, that's what's hurting him right now.slingshot4ever wrote: I think he has the 2010 AND 2011 seasons to get it together. buckeyes_wooweeIt is hot right now! He can only save it if he competes for the Big Ten IMO
-
joe.hackettWho isn't on the "hot seat"? I mean really, aren't 99% of all coached just a bad year away from a little job insecurity? Especially at major programs. I don't mean with a bad year most would be fired, but I wouldn't think too many could survive a real bad year followed up bu another.
So, to answer the question, of course Rich Rod is on the hot seat. -
TiernanC'mon slingshot this tool is from West Virginny...how GD complex can his schemes really be?
-
Bluepride13As a Buckeye fan...I hope he stays!

Being somewhat familiar with the WVU program when RR was there, it was fairly complex, but not unlearnable. The key is the right players running that offense.Tiernan wrote: C'mon slingshot this tool is from West Virginny...how GD complex can his schemes really be?
I honestly don't like RR and his shitty attitude, and I really don't like the UM. I do, however, respect them as a program, and it's a shame what RR has done to the Wolverines in 2 years. -
krazie45I think he gets another season but if he misses another bowl game he's gone
-
pbuck(DUH) anything less than a Big Ten Championship & a major bowl game is unexceptable @ a program like Michigan,Ohio State,Penn State year in year out

I don't think ayone claimed that rich rod was a great coach. I do think that he is a very good coach though and if it wasn't for him being so damn stubborn about running his system no matter who the players are then he would be a "great" coach. Also Young and Mccoy are very comparable so you can't really use a Mac Brown comparison. As for Meyer winning with Tebow and Leak it was pretty much the same system only difference was that Leak did the throwing and Tebow did the runnning. When Leak left then Tebow did it all. Not that I am saying Rich Rod should even be mentioned in the same breath as Meyer or Brown. Although I doubt even either one of them could have done much better then rich rod did with the players UM had in his first year.insuranceguy wrote:
