OC Game Pick'Em or OC Fantasy College BBall?

  • Azubuike24
I've thought about doing a fantasy league this year instead of the pick'em. I'm thinking either 12 (3X4), 16 (4X4), 18 (3X6) or 20 (4X5) teams depending on interest. The pick'em is self-explanatory, and if people just want to do that, fine. However, here's what I'm thinking for the fantasy league.

    Teams will be (divisions X teams) of (3X4), 16 (4X4), 18 (3X6) or 20 (4X5).
We draft between 8-15 players per team with a snake draft format (once we know the number of teams)
Each weekly roster would require a PG, SG, SF, PF and C (Yahoo/Rivals for eligibility) and utility spots for the remaining spots.
All players will play each week and scoring will be on a weekly basis.
Scoring will be overall totals based on Points (x1), Rebouns (x1) Assists (x1), Blocks (x2), Steals (x2) and Turnoves will be a negative (x-1).
How we determine standings will likely be based on totals or record in your division.
Playoff teams will be determined and the conference tournament results will award the winners based on production totals during those games.

We could also do a cash buy-in or find a small reward for the winner or make it free.

If you might be interested, let me know. If I can find 12 people, I'll set it up, which will give plenty of time to conduct a draft and what not in the next few months.

I'm in for sure, sounds awesome. And personally, money makes everything more fun lol

I will definitely be up for this.

Hell, lets do Football too. Haha.

I'm playing whatever CBB games we end up doing.

    This.

Alright, so I've decided I'd like to do both. Maybe someone else can help with the pick'em, but for the fantasy league, it shouldn't be too difficult once the spreadsheet is set up. Also, like the postseason pick'em scoring, people can assist in tracking their own guys as well.

I'd like to get an official list of people who are interested. I'd also like to see if people want to do like a $10 buy-in. If we can get 10-12, we can go, and if it extends into more people before the draft, fine. I'd like to have all the rules set and the draft started by midnight madness, so that gives us about 2 months to finalize everything.

You had me at $10 buy in.
  • GOONx19
I'm in for both. I think we have a couple of people that can take over the pick'em responsibilities so you can focus on the fantasy league.

I would give it a shot.

I'm sure it would be very popular, but it would be really interesting to see how the picks went. College football, unlike any other sport for fantasy, would have some crazy wacky picks.

Including myself, we've got 8 for a fantasy league. I'd shoot for 12-16, $10.00 buy-in, I'll set up a "plug and chug" Excel sheet and then post all the rules.

Like Goon said, the pick'em isn't all that difficult to run/score.
  • Laley23
Yeah, in for sure. I see no reason over the next month (as this forum is clicked more offen) we can't get to at least 12.
  • Azubuike24
Aight, so we got 8. I'm planning on getting this started late September, allowing around 6 weeks for the draft. My other league is taking out Freshman and limiting it to only certain conferences. I'm going to tweak it a bit. There will probably be 15 on the roster, but all leagues will be open (with limits to how many low majors you can have) and Freshman are fair game.

    Here's what I need:

12-16 people willing to pay a $10.00 entry fee. We have 8...

Thoughts on how you guys want to handle eligibility? Should we use a broad database like ESPN or Rivals/Yahoo for positions? My other league is using the team's official site, which about 90% of them only list G/F, regardless of the player's size. It's making finding a center very difficult. For instance, Willie Cauley-Stein at 7'1, 250 is considered only Forward eligible because on UK's site he is a F.

Thoughts on free agent pickups/drops? How often, how many per year, none at all?

How many starter spots per week? The whole roster of 15, maybe a typical rotation (8-10) or just a starting 5?

Playoffs? How many teams, when do we do it? Conference tournament week?

    Payouts?

I dont think you can do the playoffs then because of teams being eliminated. 6 people make playoffs (if you get 12) and have a 3 week playoff.

Id use Yahoo! or something because then you can get it down to PG/SG and SF/PF instead of just G and F which is what almost every team will list. It makes players more valuable or less valuable which I think is a good thing.

Payoffs? Depends on how many play, but Ive always been a big fan of reg. season champion is paid and then 1/2/3 of the tourny is paid. If its a 12 team league, it ALMOST guarantees if you win reg. season you get paid for the tourney as well. I vary the % based on the fees and how many enter though.

As far as adds/drops...Ive never liked having a limit. But Ive also never had such a large pool of people to choose from. I think it would probably be a good thing for this. Id say no limit, but like football, only once a week.

Lastly, Id say just do it like the NBA fantasy stuff...5 guys per night plus 2 flex (maybe more because of the larger pool of players). You can change it each night, but obviously on Tuesday/Wednesday/Saturday you will have some choices to make because all your players may be playing.

I would definitely use ESPN over the team's official sites. I don't see any reason to limit free agent pickups. I think 15 players is too many, personally.
  • Azubuike24
It is, if we limit it to say 10 leagues. Otherwise, 15 players isn't too many if you have only 12 teams, and 350 D-1 teams with up to 15 players per to pick from.

Part of the debate though...for sure.
  • Laley23
If you have less than 15 players, I would vote on locking in a roster of maybe 7/8 players each week.
  • Azubuike24
Yeah, I'm thinking about doing it 8 players per week (starting 5 and 3 UTIL), and having them locked each week. This means, you may want to consider benching a guy if his team is only playing 1 game that week.

Payouts, I'm one who likes to reward the regular season champ heavily. Something like reg. season winner 25%, champion 45%, 2nd place 20%, 3rd place 10%.

Adds/drops would be limited to 1 or 2 per week, and must be done prior to all games when rosters locked.

One key thing is going to be the 12 we get, to really be active and keep an eye on things. It will be a pain to manually track, so will be good to have other sets of eyes just making sure I don't fuck it up (which I've been known to do).
  • Azubuike24
Well, sounds like we may not get the 12 we wanted, although people rarely check this forum until November/December at the earliest.

I'd be willing to roll with 8-10 people, and keep the rosters to about 10-12 conferences and allow maybe 1 or 2 players from any other school.

If we're going to do it, I'd like to get started in less than 2 weeks, so we have a solid month to get everything finished.
  • GOONx19
    I'm still in. Sounds good.
  • Laley23
    Still in.
  • Azubuike24
Okay, so I'm going to set things up this week. Hopefully, get things started this weekend, giving up 5 weeks before the season starts. I'm hoping to get 10 people. 12 if possible, but it seems like 10 will be where we are at. If anyone else on the board may be interested but doesn't check this board that much in the off-season, shoot them a PM. I'm think $10 buy-in per person, via Paypal. I will post more details coming. Draft will be on the forums, as will the rules, scoring template, player/team database and schedule.
