It wasnt a game but nd is very underwelming as far as stadium. To be honest going to see the rest of campus is cooler then the stadium. BUT like I said I went in the stadium on a non gameday, so makes a huge difference -

ND's stadium is definitely underwhelming on a non-gameday. It's all about the atmosphere on a Saturday.Midstate01;1440417 wrote:It wasnt a game but nd is very underwelming as far as stadium. I got to go to my first ND game this past year, and was really surprised by the atmosphere. I had been on campus there many times, but never on a game day. I think I was surprised by how quiet the atmosphere was on campus. Not in the sense that it wasn't loud, but in the sense that only students and people going to the game were there. I'm used to Columbus where 100,000 people without tickets are still on campus on game day. I thought the stadium experience was top notch though. I loved the fact that when you walked into the stadium it felt like you were stepping back in time. I felt as if the experience hadn't changed much over the years. In Ohio Stadium the history is still there, but it's hidden now. In Notre Dame Stadium the history is everywhere you look.sherm03;1440419 wrote:ND's stadium is definitely underwhelming on a non-gameday. It's all about the atmosphere on a Saturday. -

A&M's expansion is what gave me the idea for this thread.Azubuike24;1438446 wrote:A&M expanding to 103,000.
That's going to be absolutely crazy. It would probably be #1 on my list.
Nebraska, Penn State, LSU and Alabama would be up there as well.
I've been to Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Ohio State and a few other smaller ones. For their size, UT is overrated while OSU is pretty awesome. Helps when the games I've gone to have been great ones (UM '02, Texas '05, many others). -

I wonder if that has to do with it being more difficult to get to South Bend and/or the fact there isnt nearly as much to do outside of the game? Columbus you can go, tailgate, and then enjoy the city. South Bend would be go, tailgate, go home lol.krambman;1442583 wrote:I got to go to my first ND game this past year, and was really surprised by the atmosphere. I think it's both. Columbus is a city of nearly a million people, whereas SB is only a few hundred thousand, so there are less people around to just be around. Also, OSU's campus is in downtown Columbus, so there are plenty o places to tailgate and hangout on game day outside o the stadium. Since Notre Dame Stadium is on campus and since the campus is pretty isolated with just a shopping center and a residential neighborhood surrounding it, there aren't many places to tailgate or other things to do once the game starts if you aren't in the stadium. I think Notre Dame has a great game day atmosphere and experience, but it was just vastly different from what I'm used to in Columbus.Laley23;1442667 wrote:I wonder if that has to do with it being more difficult to get to South Bend and/or the fact there isnt nearly as much to do outside of the game? Huh? The shoe is on campus and osu is not located in downtown... -

Columbus has a population just shy of 800,000, and South Bend is just over 100,000. The Columbus metro area is 1.8 million and the South Bend metro area is 315,000. So no, I didn't take a guess at those numbers.Mohican00;1442719 wrote:I take it you took a guess at these numbers? -

I would like to add Lane Stadium to my honorable mention list....not really a fan but it seems to have a good atmosphere, especially when they aren't losing to inferior opponents.

Pretty much exactly what I was getting at, and I agree.krambman;1442672 wrote:I think it's both. Point remains though, you can get to places to watch the game and still be around a ton of people etc. Lots more bars and restaurants with OSU fans packed in. Way less places in SB.Midstate01;1442748 wrote:Huh? The shoe is on campus and osu is not located in downtown... -

THIS...I hate it when people are wrong but won't admit it...drives me fucking crazy.Midstate01;1443293 wrote:Maybe so but its NOT downtown and the shoe IS on campus. -

I understand what laley is saying. But it's just not true to say the shoe isn't on campu. Heck the shoe isn't even close to being out by west campus. And it's nowhere near downtown. Being in downtown means in walking distance to arena district or brewery district. And unless you wanna hike, you're not doing either. -
Midstate01The shoe is basically the middle of campus...
-
Midstate01Nobody is walking to the arena district during a gameday....

I didn't think he was. Which was why I said I knew what you were trying to say. But the previous point by whoever it was, was wrong. -
