That is a loaded East division
  • WebFire
That does not seem competitively balanced at all. But it doesn't matter. Delaney will have the B1G as DIII soon anyway. Straight from his mouth.

East is loaded so I think Purdue should be put in the west. It would give them another team that could be competitive from time to time.

The East would be the best division in college sports.

Honestly, they need to move MSU to the West and keep Purdue and Indiana in the East.
  • Manhattan Buckeye
I just barfed in my mouth. They'd be better off not having divisions and having the top 2 teams play in the c'ship game.

Makes the most sense, so that means Delaney won't do it.

I have a feeling Wisconsin is going to win the west for the next 20 years.

Nebraska is usually pretty good. Other than that, it's just meh. Still better than the SEC East.

It's going to be OSU or Michigan vs Wisconsin or Nebraska for the foreseeable future.

So did they get rid of the idiotic leaders and legends?

    Yup.

2 teams will the East 90% per of the time and 2 teams will win the West 90% of the time

    What a fucking joke.

Realistically, it is the same teams at the top almost every year with or without the divisions anyway. No matter how they split them up thats how its probably going to turn out. In that list Mich St. is the only other team other than the above 4 who will compete on a regular basis so it is really about as balanced as it is going to get.

Eh for the most part. Iowa and Illinois have put together decent seasons recently. Even Northwestern can surprise some people. The East is just really top heavy with 4 good teams and 3 not so good teams. The West has basically just Wisconsin and Nebraska and a bunch of SEC East teams to fill out the bottom.

Hey, only us B1G fans can call it idiotic, but to answer your question-no.
  • cats gone wild
Well, at least someone answered me, lol. East and West sound much better.

II think Purdue will become competitive for years to come. They just hired a great young coach who performed miracles at my alma mater, Kent State. In just his second year, we came within double overtime of going to a BCS bowl. Purdue has good days ahead of it.

    FWK. Leave.

i'd move msu out west but other than that, it looks good. geographic-based divisions is definitely the way to go

If it ends up Purdue in the west, the combined wins for each division over the last 5 years will be 249 (West) vs. 258 (East).

In the end each division will have 2 teams that will most likely win it (OSU/Mich vs. Neb/Wisky) and each conference has a team that could win it. Michigan State and Northwestern. Sparty is 44-22 and Northwestern 40-25 over the last 5 years. Penn State has the name but I think they will gradually become worse over the next several years.

Penn State will become "worse" only in the sense that they will be unable to attract out-of-state talent due to lack of available scholarships.

However, Penn State has always attracted well in the east particularly, of course, Pennsylvania. There will be plenty of "bubble" talent within the state who will opt to play for an in-state marquee program even if the scollies aren't available. The thinking is they'll more easily get spotted by NFL scouts at PSU as opposed to opting for a mid-major program.

Plus while the scholarships won't be officially available, there are always creative ways of making the lives of those student-athletes a little less financially problematic than for the average Penn State student...right? This won't assemble Top 10 or 15 talent but rest assured PSU will still be competitive.

No way Pennsylvania, PSU, or State College will allow that 110,000 seat stadium sit half empty.

I wish they would have kept the Leaders and Legends and put Rutgers in the Leaders and Maryland in the Legends.

I just liked how the Legends was M, N, Iowa. Leaders was everyone else.
