Fine, I'll stipulate to one incident, as your second example is undocumented. One out of thousands of times. Doesn't change the fact that K was just being a whiny bitch.reclegend22;1398956 wrote:You are dead wrong. There are documented cases of injuries as a result of court storming.
Documented case #1: http://articles.latimes.com/2008/jun...rts/sp-crowe17
Documented case #2: A player from BGSU in the early 2000s was injured after being blind-sided by a group of students storming the floor and missed the majority of the season. Source: Former BGSU coach Dan Dakich who has talked about it all week. I also live near Bowling Green and remember the incident well.
You definitive statements are moronic. -
ts1227The O Zone down in Athens stormed the court (for no reason) after the Kent game this year, and I watched a band member just get run over and basically her head trampled on. I was sitting courtside so I got up and blocked the students from running her over anymore and some of the band members got her out of harm's way. She left with a hell of a headache if not a mild concussion.
Of course, said courtside seats are part of the problem because it forces the students to funnel to the end of the seating section. The other problem is the fucking retards rushed the court to beat a team that was 5-7 in the MAC, using that it was on TV and in OT as their excuse (news flash: OU is good enough to get plenty of TV dates now, so when many of the games are on STO or ESPNU, TV isn't a big deal).
I don't think it should stop, but it needs to actually be a big win (beat a high ranked team, win a tournament, maybe beat a rival if you're the underdog, etc.) to justify it.
Coach K was just trying to bring the attention back on Duke since they just got beat by fucking Virginia. Most teams know in those situations that it's coming, and basically haul ass toward the locker room at the buzzer. You see it all of the time. -

How is it undocumented? Dan Dakich has talked about the player who was seriously injured at BGSU due to a court storm all week on ESPN.queencitybuckeye;1399097 wrote:Fine, I'll stipulate to one incident, as your second example is undocumented. Dan Dakich speaking about it on ESPN's Mike and Mike in the Morning: http://www.wralsportsfan.com/colleges/audio/12169081/
It's at the five minute mark.
Again, Coach K sounds just like any coach from any team would who has the court stormed against them as many times as Duke has. No other team in the country experiences anything like it. Duke is THE game in America. At Florida State in 2006, FSU's fans left the bleachers when time was still on the clock. While injuries might be rare, safety should always a concern.
After FSU beat No. 1 Duke in 2002, students ran right over top Duke's Mike Dunleavy who was still sprawled out on the court after falling down prior to his last shot attempt at the buzzer. Watch the video. He was clearly in a vulnerable position that, with one wrong misstep from one of the oblivious students running out of control, could have led to a very serious injury.

karen lotzDunleavy makes the shot and he isn't in a vulnerable position until he and the team celebrate in the shower. Problem solved.

reclegend22Those hating on Coach K are -- to use all of your terminology -- "butthurt" that he is so damn good at what he does. That to me, is what sounds like "whiney bitching."

LOL!!! You got jokes -
karen lotzI really believe if he makes the shot the court doesn't get stormed. If you are referring to the shower part, I'm not sure.

It wasn't a joke. That's what all of you sound like. Safety is a legitimate concern. For all the reasons I have laid out. I've actually backed up my arguments with facts and citations. The "whiney bitches" that are calling out Duke and K are the ones who sound "butthurt."LJ;1399198 wrote:LOL!!! You got jokes -

Your facts and citations are so statistically insignificant that more players are probably hurt outside of games than have ever been hurt in a court storming. I couldn't care less about duke's program or coach k. His comments after HE and his players and coaches tried to start incidents with fans are nothing more than attempts to take the spotlight off of their abhorrent actions -
Laley23Please dont use a HS game as an example...lol. Unless HS baskebtall has security like the NCAA that I am unaware of.
Also, in that example the team that won had the kid injured. Thats an absolutely horrible example. -

It's a perfect example of the dangers of an oblivious mob of students rampaging on the court without any concern for their surroundings.Laley23;1399207 wrote:Please dont use a HS game as an example...lol. Unless HS baskebtall has security like the NCAA that I am unaware of.

How you cannot see that is baffling. -

That was never the issue. K even said storming is fine after my team is gone (or something to that effect).reclegend22;1399212 wrote:It's a perfect example of the dangers of an oblivious mob of students rampaging on the court without any concern for their surroundings.

There is no security in HS, there is in NCAA. It is less dangerous than so many things its stupid to argue about it being outlawed. Maybe these kids shouldnt drink either in college. They could get hurt at a party. -
sleeperI really hope whatever team beats Duke in the NCAA tournament this year storms the court. LOL

You act as if the security staff at a college basketball game are trained Secret Service agents. They are out of shape ticket ushers wearing yellow coats. As I pointed out in my video above, often times they aren't even in place or are of absolutely no use at all as students rush the court so quickly in many cases that no organization of security can actually stop them.
Those fake cops in yellow coats are about as relevant as rope.

Well, they were at Virginia. Duke had an alleyway to their locker-room.reclegend22;1399223 wrote:

Youre acting like someone on Duke was in danger at some point. They werent.
I still dont see how it is OK for a 66 year old man to trade F Bombs with a student. Whether its in a court storming or at a rock concert. Grow up, K. -

I think he may have learned a thing or two from a certain legendary coach who strangled a player at practice and physically reprimanded a student on campus for saying "Hey Knight." Just sayin'. Do we have video of K saying "fuck you" or whatever he allegedly said to that student? If so, I would like to see it. I'm not insinuating it doesn't exist or that it didn't actually happen; I just would like to see it. I love when K gets heated up. The kid shouldn't have got in his personal space. -

I am strongly against virtually everything Bob Knight stands for and has done. He is a hypocrite and, frankly, a POS human being. I dont have video, but Ive read it multiple places.reclegend22;1399230 wrote:I think he may have learned a thing or two from a certain legendary coach who strangled a player at practice and physically reprimanded a student on campus for saying "Hey Knight." This whole thing is so stupid anyway, and Im done after this post.
I think we all agree that it is dangerous to storm the court. However, the number show that is isnt that dangerous. Something could happen, yes. But thus far, not much has. To want to outlaw something that students obviously love so much would seriously do harm to the college game which is losing fans as it is.
Is Coach K right about wanting to get his team off the court? Yes. Is it a potentially dangerous happening? Yes. Does he sound whiny when he brings it up after a bubble team does it to him? Yes. Does something need to be done about it? I say, and I think most of college bball fans say no.
