Your Top 4 in each region....predictions
-
Ironman92East....1. Indiana, 2. Georgetown, 3. New Mexico, 4. Syracuse
South....1. Miami, 2. Florida, 3. Michigan, 4. Kansas St
Midwest....1. Kansas, 2. Mich St, 3. Louisville, 4. Ohio St
West...1. Gonzaga, 2. Duke, 3. Arizona, 4. Wisconsin
Not saying these are equal....just a prediction of how it might go. -
Laley23Georgetown cant be in the East. They are the host of that region. Same for Kansas in the South, but Im not sure how that works with the Big 12 hosting and not a specific team.
-
Ironman92Well then switch Georgetown and Duke I guess

So what's your prediction. -

If the Big 12 is hosting then any Big 12 team can still be there I believe. It's only if that school is the host or its considered a "home" venue that they can't be there I think, so Kansas should be fine. -
Azubuike24KU can play there.
East - New Mexico, Michigan, Syracuse, Oregon
South - Duke, Florida, Michigan State, Oklahoma State
Midwest - Indiana, Kansas, Louisville, St. Louis
West - Gonzaga, Miami, Ohio State, UNLV
Pending the Lobos win out beating UNLV in the finals. St. Louis wins the A-10, or at least wins out and makes the finals. Ohio State is ahead of Wisconsin, Oklahoma State is ahead of K-State and Oregon wins both the Pac 12 regular season and Tournament. -
Laley23I dont want to do regions, cause my brain hurts. But here is my prediction for top seeds.
ONES:
Indiana
Kansas
Gonzaga
Miami (Fl)
TWOS:
Michigan
Michigan St.
Georgetown
Florida
THREES:
Duke
Kansas St.
New Mexico
Louisville
FOURS:
St. Louis
Wisconsin
Arizona
Oklahoma St.
Ohio St., Syracuse, Marquette, Oregon right there as well.
Thats a rough projection through conference tourneys. Though I havent predicted when who beats who. Just kind of the round they lose in or win the whole thing. Its tough to put Arizona in there when they have struggled so much in the Pac-12. I guess whoever wins that tournament between Arizona and Oregon gets the 4. If its UCLA or other, I could see the Pac-12 not getting a top 4 seed. -
Laley23
Pretty similar with mine, regarding the who wins out/loses to who etc conditions. Except I dont see NM getting a 1 because the committee wont put them and Gonzaga there. Though as you have said multiple times, and I agree, the resume says yes.Azubuike24;1398476 wrote:KU can play there.

I would love that region for Ohio State. -

Interesting....no Arizona? -
Fly4FunI think you have to have OSU over Wisconsin as a 4 just because Wisconsin has more questionable losses (home vs. Creighton, home v. UVA, and at Iowa). While OSU's only questionable loss is @ Illinois.
Of course if OSU loses early in the B1G tourny and Wisconsin makes it to the finals that could change. -
Laley23
I think Wisconsins wins are more impressive though.Fly4Fun;1398506 wrote:I think you have to have OSU over Wisconsin as a 4 just because Wisconsin has more questionable losses (home vs. Creighton, home v. UVA, and at Iowa). While OSU's only questionable loss is @ Illinois.

Ironman92Who you beat is more important than who you lost to.

They gotta win the Pac-12 Tourney. I honestly wouldnt be shocked if no Pac-12 team makes the top 4 seeds. I dont think Arizona can win the regular season at this point (I mean, yes they can...but I dont see Oregon losing after escaping vs Oregon St last night). @ Colorado should be tough though.Ironman92;1398505 wrote:Interesting....no Arizona?
But Arizona has a tough game @UCLA still. UCLA could win the league and tourney outright and still not be a top 4 seed. -

Yeah.....I'm not greatly impressed by any of them.
Typically in the brackets they'll have one or two surprising #3 seeds and some rougher seeming #4 seeds. Seems like the East often gets the softer #3 seed. I know you have to avoid conference matchups and such. -
reclegend22I also don't feel like picking regions. Geography was never a favorite subject of mine.
Ones: Indiana, Duke, Georgetown, Kansas
Twos: Miami (Fl), Gonzaga, Michigan State, Florida
Threes: Louisville, New Mexico, Syracuse, Wisconsin (after they win the Big Ten Tournament)
Fours: Arizona, Syracuse, UNLV, Butler or Saint Louis (whichever wins the A-10 Tourney)
I did not include Michigan as a top four seed because, when it is all said and done, I believe Michigan will have lost at least six out of its last 12 or 13 games, depending on how many games the Wolverines win in the Big Ten tourney. I don't think it will be more than one. They will also lose at home to Indiana or Michigan State. -
Azubuike24I see Zona losing at least 2 more times. They are definitely overrated. Not sure what they have done to deserve a top 4 seed.
-
reclegend22
I added Zona more or less because I think they will end up winning the Pac-12 Tournament and I really don't think the other teams in that range -- K-State, Oklahoma State, Oregon -- are better teams. Arizona has a ton of talent and could be very dangerous in the tournament. I love the leadership they have on the perimeter with Mark Lyons and Solomon Hill, and Sean Miller has proven to be a good coach in the postseason. We'll see, but I think the Wildcats will surprise people compared to their relatively low profile.Azubuike24;1398598 wrote:I see Zona losing at least 2 more times. They are definitely overrated. Arizona has an RPI of #14 and Florida, Miami, San Diego State and Colorado are all good wins. I'd say if the Wildcats win at Pauley and then win the Pac-12 Tournament they might even get a top 3 seed. -
sleeperSMH at Duke getting a 1 seed. NO FUCKING CHANCE.
-
reclegend22
If Duke beats Miami at home -- and with Ryan Kelly most definitely playing in that game, the Blue Devils will likely win -- and then goes on to win the ACC Tournament, they are almost assured a No. 1 seed. No matter what anyone else does. Even with a loss at North Carolina. At 31-5, the Blue Devils would also have the No. 1 RPI and No. 2 SOS with at least eight victories against the RPI top 40, and possibly nine or 10 depending on who Duke faces in the ACC Tournament.sleeper;1398622 wrote:SMH at Duke getting a 1 seed. That's a No. 1 seed all day long. -

This. End of discussion.ccrunner609;1398682 wrote:If Duke wins the ACC they will be the #1 in the east
Caveat: Duke must beat Miami or UNC to end the year. Cannot lose to both. -
Cleveland BuckI pulled out the old spreadsheet from last year and plugged the teams in, and based solely on resume to this point in the season (quality and location of wins and losses), the rankings are pretty surprising, and look nothing like what the actual tournament will look like. The top 4 lines are:
1 Seeds - New Mexico (Overall #1), Duke, Kansas, Miami (FL)
2 Seeds - Indiana, Georgetown, Michigan State, Minnesota
3 Seeds - Gonzaga, Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin
4 Seeds - Florida, UNLV, Louisville, Marquette
The rest of the field:
5 Seeds - UCLA, Butler, Syracuse, St. Louis
6 Seeds - Colorado, Oregon, Connecticut, Illinois
7 Seeds - Oklahoma State, Memphis, Virginia Commonwealth, Pittsburgh
8 Seeds - San Diego State, Colorado State, California, Cincinnati
9 Seeds - Ohio State, Kansas State, Missouri, Notre Dame
10 Seeds - Tennessee, North Carolina State, Creighton, Wichita State
11 Seeds - Oklahoma, Arizona State, Temple, Villanova
12 Seeds - North Carolina/Boise State, Virginia/Kentucky, Belmont, Louisiana Tech
13 Seeds - Akron, Bucknell, Montana, Stephen F. Austin
14 Seeds - Middle Tennessee, Harvard, Valparaiso, Long Beach State
15 Seeds - South Dakota State, Norfolk State, Stony Brook, Mercer
16 Seeds - Davidson, Robert Morris, Northeastern/Niagara, Charleston Southern/Texas Southern
Last 4 In: North Carolina, Boise State, Virginia, Kentucky
First 4 Out: Massachusetts, LaSalle, Charlotte, Iowa State
Next 4 Out: St. Mary's, Iowa, Arkansas, Mississippi -

Haha what sort of formula is going on here? If you beat a couple good teams, you're a top 3 seed?Cleveland Buck;1398794 wrote:I pulled out the old spreadsheet from last year and plugged the teams in, and based solely on resume to this point in the season (quality and location of wins and losses), the rankings are pretty surprising, and look nothing like what the actual tournament will look like. KSU 9? OSU 9? Colorado 6? Akron 13? Minnesota a 2?!?! -
Ironman92I'll bet $700,000,000 that Minnesota isn't seeded 7 spots higher than OSU.
I can see some of it but some of it is just ridiculous. -
Cleveland BuckMinnesota has 4 top 25 RPI wins, the same as Ohio State. Minnesota has 12 top 100 RPI wins, twice as many as Ohio State, and more than all but a handful of teams. They have one questionable loss, on the road outside the top 100, which gave them a little hit in the formula. When I saw where they were ranked I double and triple checked it, but they do have a much better resume than Ohio State.
