B1G to stop scheduling FCS teams

I love this. I think it is a step in the right direction for the conference. Start to shed some of that cupcake schedule that has kept wins up but also helped with complacency and taken away the competitive drive a bit.

Good choice. The other "BCS" conferences should do the same. In addition, the "BCS" conferences should ban all non-"BCS" conference games beyond the end of September.

If Ohio St. wants to play Bowling Green, or Alabama wants to play UAB, do it in late August or September, not in the last 6 or 7 weeks of the season.

    Thank. God.

We won't have to lose to NDSU every 3 years.

This is a thread about the B1G not scheduling FCS schools. If you'd like to to discuss how this topic is already being talked about in a pre-existing thread, please start another thread to do so. Thanks.

That looks to me like a general B1G thread, not about the specifics of a movement by a BCS conference that might cause others to follow. Two random posts on a thread with dozens of general B1G posts isn't that notable.

This is a pretty big deal going forward, IMO it deserves its own thread, not lost in a general one.

There aren't enough Sun Belt teams to go around for everyone to cut the 1-AA ties.

Do what OSU does. Schedule one major team a year (the Miami, Texas, USC group), schedule a secondary group (the Colorado, Cincinnati, Texas Tech group), and a local team (Akron, Bowling Green, Kent, etc.).

Between Conference USA and the Sun Belt, there are plenty of options for the SEC teams.

I won't be surprised to see schools step up their scheduling now that we are moving to a playoff and your strength of schedule might be more important than being undefeated.

This. Not everything has to be crammed into a thread to a point that information gets lost.

But back on topic, I agree that the scheduling model of one major team, one so-so and one local team seems like a good one. Hopefully we see similar moves from other conferences as well.

We will have to wait to see how this changes schedules. It will all depend upon who the 1AA schools are replaced with. The top 1AA schools are better than the bottom of the MAC.

That. I just wanted to point it out since there was no mention of it in the OP regarding the subject being discussed in another thread. That being said, I also think MB's idea has merit and could be a blueprint for other conferences as well.

Nothing new for OSU. They havent played YSU in years and dont have the scheduled in the future.

With a playoff system, it will almost never happen for anyone.

I still wish the system would expand from 4 to 8. Take the 5 BCS conference champions and then the next 3 highest in the polls regardless of conference.
  • Azubuike24
True. With 8 teams, you may have some 3 loss teams in the mix.

Personally, I'd like to see superconferences with maybe 64-72 total teams. Lets be real, most of the middle/bottom WAC, C-USA, MAC and Sun Belt teams are FCS anyway.

True but doesn't tOSU have Florida A&M on the schedule this year?

I'm still pissed about this, and I hope there's some way we can get out of it

Yeah, I thought maybe FA&M was the replacement for Vandy dropping us but no, that's SDSU (not a bad pickup either).

Doubt we'll get out of the match up but it looks like Western Kentucky may have an open date on 09/21 - GET YOUR TICKETS NOW!!!!@

Do you think that will be a premium game or will it "only" cost $79?

Perhaps but the MAC as a whole has defeated their 1AA (FCS) opponents 72% of the time.
