B1G 2013

Not sure it will for no other reason than spite in the short term. Pretty sure it's you that needs to get over it, the message is the B1G needs to improve, you've done nothing here to further the idea other than to say it can't or won't which leads others to believe my premise.WebFire;1387746 wrote:Has nothing to do with Urban. See past that and look at the discussion. Let me ask, what/how do think it will change? -

I can agree with that. They have to have a good group of seniors (particularly at QB) and they will have a good year. The next few years they will struggle as they gain experience and then have another good year.WebFire;1387753 wrote:Honestly, this is how I see it:
Should be able to recruit at a high level and compete year-in and year-out:
OSU
Michigan
Wisconsin
Penn State (not considering sanctions)
Nebraska
The rest: won't. They will have a good year now and again and even challenge for B1G championship. But nothing is going to change.
Also, how come Kirk Ferentz and Iowa aren't on your list? -

There won't be pretenders anymore. It will be OSU/UM laying 30-40 point beat downs on every other team. Hell, Nebraska has a lot of work to do to catch up, and they had the 3rd best class in the B1G. This isn't status quo B1G recruiting anymore, thanks to Meyer and Hoke.WebFire;1387744 wrote:When hasn't it been that way? Every year there is a pretender that tries to challenge, but honestly, it's always been OSU, Michigan and sometimes Penn State. Adding Nebraska should help long term.
The B1G obviously doesn't care since they added 2 more teams that will be bottom feeders in the B1G. -

Because they belong on the "rest" list.FatHobbit;1387760 wrote:I can agree with that. They have to have a good group of seniors (particularly at QB) and they will have a good year. The next few years they will struggle as they gain experience and then have another good year.

So Urbie says so and I should should just shout from the mountain tops that Indiana can and should recruit better? Come on man, that is pathetic. Sounds like YOU need to get over it.ytownfootball;1387756 wrote:Not sure it will for no other reason than spite in the short term. How can he have all those B1G coach of the year awards and belong on the "rest" list?WebFire;1387770 wrote:Because they belong on the "rest" list. -

So you're ok with the state of the B1G as it stands?WebFire;1387775 wrote:But Urban said so. Didn't you see what ytown said? Get on board man! -

sleeperThe B1G and the SEC are really no different as far as conference makeup. We have our power teams(OSU/Michigan sometimes PSU/Wisconsin) while the SEC has(Bama, Florida, sometimes LSU/UGA). Then a bunch of shit at the bottom that occassionally gets a win(Illinois, MSU, Iowa, Nebraska) while the SEC has(Auburn, Arkansas, A&M). Then of course we have our trash(Indiana, Minnesota, NW, Purdue) while the SEC has(Kentucky, Tennesee, Miss St, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Mizzou).
The difference lies in the B1G has strong academics and plays by the rules whereas the SEC is a bunch of shit slingers with poor GPAs and criminal records. -

Lol...no need to go all butthurt man. Who gives a shit who said it? What part of the B1G recruiting sucks sans OSU/mich do you disagree with? Would UM not benefit from a stronger B1G? In fact, who would NOT benefit from a better showing from the rest of the league?WebFire;1387773 wrote:So Urbie says so and I should should just shout from the mountain tops that Indiana can and should recruit better? Fact is, had it been Brady Golden Corral Hoke that implored the rest of the league to get better you'd be a trailing puppy derp...fact. -
se-alumThe way it stands right now in the B1G, one loss and you're going to be out of the picture for a National Championship, especially since OSU and UM play late in the year. You can't lose to any other B1G team, and expect to play for a championship.

You do? You keep bring that part up. I didn't.ytownfootball;1387799 wrote:Lol...no need to go all butthurt man. Who gives a shit who said it?
It's not that I disagree with it. It's that I don't think it can or will change. The bottom dwellers are bottom dwellers for a reason. The state of B1G recruiting is not going to change. That is my opinion. Nothing more, nothing less.ytownfootball;1387799 wrote:What part of the B1G recruiting sucks sans OSU/mich do you disagree with? Would UM not benefit from a stronger B1G? Not fact. Your assumption. Which is wrong. I probably would have had to listen to OSU fans talk crap about it.ytownfootball;1387799 wrote:Fact is, had it been Brady Golden Corral Hoke that implored the rest of the league to get better you'd be a trailing puppy derp...fact. -

Thanks for addng to the meaningful discussion lol -
karen lotzthere isn't anything to add really other than that I agree with Web. Meyer talking to other B1G coaches isn't going to change anything. Its funny that Meyer thinks him getting on other staffs will suddenly get their respective athletic departments money to spend on football recruiting. B1G ADs have already asked the NCAA to kill the new proposed recruiting guidelines, so I don't see too many of them giving a shit what Urban had to say.
Brady Golden Corral Hoke added immensely to the thread though, lol. That was just hilarious. -

I actually wish UM didn't bring it up, but since he did I guess we all have to deal with it. Honestly I don't care if we hang a hundy on the rest of the league but it does matter when it comes to seeding in the upcoming playoff situation. So while I don't care I guess we all should by default. Much the way you feel that had Hoke brought it up you'd be taking crap for it, it seems like some are dismissing the idea the league needs to get better due to the source, Urban Meyer.
While what he says is true, I don't like him saying it. He hasn't been in the league long enough to float that shit with any credibility with the rest of the coaches, particularly when he "broke" unwritten recruiting laws in their eyes right out of the gate. To them and to a degree me it looks like bringing the SEC north and that rubs people the wrong way. I guess I'm ok with it as long as the academics continue to be front and center, but I still have to get used to the idea myself. -

I am going to pick up on this post, yes post #8 of this thread. The article that claimed Urban was going to call out the other programs at the meetings was false. He said he was going to talk about improving the brand. He got his point across, they are going to have night games, more conference games, and the conference is against the new recruiting rules, which happens to be Urban's stance.WebFire;1387545 wrote: He can challenge all he wants; I just don't see what is going to change.
It's not only important, it's essential [for the Big Ten to improve its recruiting against the SEC]. We do need to, as a conference, keep pushing that envelope to be better. All our conversations - we will have a Big Ten meeting on the 11th - and our conversations need to be how do we recruit. When you see 11 of the SEC teams are in the Top 25 in recruiting, that is something that we need to continue to work on and improve.
It's pretty obvious he is concerned with the BRAND, not how individual coaches go about their recruiting or what they spend. -

A. He didn't talk to other coaches about recruiting
B. He doesn't think getting on other staffs is going to change how they recruit.
C. Urban has been extremely outspoken against the new recruiting rules, well before the other ADs came on board, sounds like they DO care about what he says. -
karen lotzSo he didn't say he'd discuss poor recruiting with B1G coaches on 97.1 last week?

Can you not read the quote in post 44?karen lotz;1387918 wrote:So he didn't say he'd discuss poor recruiting with B1G coaches on 97.1 last week? -
LJSucks that the only articles have that portion of the quote, because he goes on to talk about how the new recruiting rules will hurt, how the B1G needs to have the big late season match ups at night, and so on. They were all issues affecting the whole conference, not team or staff specific things.

Yeah, it seems like he said there would be discussions about poor recruiting in the B1G in addition to other things. Did Meyer say he'd discuss poor recruiting or not?
Can't wait for these epic Indiana and Minnesota recruiting classes to start rolling in because Meyer thinks they should do better. -

if you didn't hear the interview, no one cares what you think it seems like.We do need to, as a conference, keep pushing that envelope to be better. All our conversations - we will have a Big Ten meeting on the 11th - and our conversations need to be how do we recruit.
