Azubuike24Florida lost Will Yeguette, possibly for the season.
Sure, he's their 4th or 5th best player, but he's their only depth at the 4 or 5. It's basically Murphy, Young and Yeguette. Murphy is also day to day with an injury.
I'm not sure the Gators can win it all without being 100%. Their guards are good, but not THAT good. -
Laley23For the record...I think IU SHOULD be ranked 2 or 3. I just have them #1 on MY list, for reasons Ive already explained. If they played anyone tomorrow, at a neutral site, Id take IU.

Carolina needs no extra motivation for a win. -

1. I can't imagine voters being overly impressive with that "tough" win on the road against the ACC's version of Nebraska. Who, also at home, has lost to Harvard by 16 and Bryant by 2. After all, Indiana has a (home) 43-point win over that Bryant team that beat BC by twice as many points as Duke did!reclegend22;1386802 wrote:Regardless, the AP voted Kansas as the top team in the country today. 2. That recent humiliation at the hands of Miami also cost Duke. Hard for a lot of people to vote a team as #1 when them getting murdered without a fight is so fresh in the minds, when other teams with recent losses at least went down to the wire.
3. When a team has a three-game stretch that has two top 10 teams and one unranked team that was top 10 material at one point in the season and they win the two games against top 10 opponents (one on the road) and barely lose against the unranked team, odds are they'll get a bit more latitude from voters simply due to overall success against a high strength of schedule. That's the advantage of being in a conference with four current Top 15 teams and three others who've bounced in and out of the polls during the season.
4. You're screwed anyway. #1 in the USA/ESPN poll = an imminent loss, as being #1 is the kiss of death. Both you and Indiana will lose this week. -
Laley23If Indiana losses this week I might commit suicide lol. Home games with Nebraska and Purdue.

Thanks. Kansas being voted #1 probably would have given a lot of college basketball fans heart attacks today. Lol.vball10set;1386849 wrote:fify -

Purdue has a big time ax to grind in this one. With IU running it up, HeShee acting like an ass, and Oladipo doing that sweet MJ kiss the rim dunk as time expired I think they will come in pretty pissed off.Laley23;1386884 wrote:If Indiana losses this week I might commit suicide lol. Dont know if it is enough for the upset tho..... -

The transitive property is obviously meaningless. Indiana lost by five at home to Wisconsin, which lost to Marquette, which lost to Tennessee Tech by 10, which lost to Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, which lost to Chicago State (7-17)...Heretic;1386863 wrote:1. You do realize that Boston College led Miami (at full strength with Reggie Johnson and Durand Scott in the lineup) on Jan. 16 with under a minute to go, before falling 60-59? Boston College also lost to N.C. State by 4 and had then-top 15 Baylor on the ropes until the final minutes. So B.C. can definitely compete. Ryan Anderson is a great player.
This I agree with. And I never argued that. I thought Miami should vault to No. 1 for this reason. I just don't think Indiana should have, after losing to such an awful team earlier in the week. I mean, let's be serious, despite a quick start to the year, Illinois had gone 1-6 heading into the Indiana game and was sitting at ninth place in the Big Ten. They were playing just awful basketball. (During one three-game losing stretch, Illinois lost by a combined 48 points.)Heretic wrote:2. That recent humiliation at the hands of Miami also cost Duke. Big deal.
And you are talking about a "horrible" Illinios team who beat the #1 and #18 team in back to back games.
Ya can play with the numbers and stuff all you want.
I think the voters saw an IU team lose by 2 on the road to a respectable team who had been ranked...and that got stupid hot at the end of the game, and then went into Try-N-Save arena and lay it to the buckeyes. -

1. I mainly like the transitive property for the amusement it brings me, more than any actual use. But I'd describe BC as a team that CAN definitely compete, but when you consider some of their losses, when they definitely compete against your highly-ranked team, it's a disappointing performance by you. Kind of how I felt when host Nebraska stayed with Ohio State and only lost by seven.reclegend22;1386925 wrote:The transitive property is obviously meaningless. 2. I think there's a big difference between "an awful team" and a team that was "playing just awful" for a stretch. Illinois is not an awful team by any stretch with wins over Butler, Gonzaga and Ohio State before last week's wins. In fact, I'm laughing at the concept of them being a loss to "such an awful team", while Duke's win at BC is somehow this admirable "tough win". But they had been playing really poorly with losses to both the top teams in the conference and some of the lesser ones that aren't tournament threats. If they lost to Minnesota yesterday, I think it would have made the win over Indiana look worse for the Hoosiers. But adding the win over the Gophers, it looks more like a good, but streaky team is in Illinois. The kind that can beat anyone...but if cold, can be beat by anyone. -

I was just playing with the numbers because Heretic took that approach. But, honestly, I don't actually think Duke deserves to be No. 1 so I am fine with it. You are right, Duke got hammered at Miami and until Kelly returns, the Blue Devils are going to be remembered for taking that beating and as a team that just isn't quite where it was earlier in the year.thavoice;1386944 wrote:and recently duke lost 2 of 3 by a total of 35 pts.

thavoiceand as a point..I was hoping theh hoosiers would be 2. I dont like the bullseye of being number one.
Everyone seems to overplay their wins on the road.....Duke vs BC, IU vs Pur and redicule losses by other top teams.
Guess it is all fun and games..and in the end the best part is that it does not matter as the tourny will sort it iall out.
