IF we had a 8 team playoff.....

  • cats gone wild
We would have 3 rematches in which the first matchups were all close. This is the first year in which the top 8 teams are all pretty even and no one is clearly better than everyone.

    1. ND vs 8. Stanford
    2. Bama vs 7. LSU
    3. Oregon vs 6. KSU
    4. Florida vs 5. UGA

Who would like to see this 8 team playoff this year? I know I would.

I don't think anyone in the country wants to watch another Bama/LSU snoozefest.

Ehh, I would tweak it to not include 4 SEC teams. I'd keep the max 2 per league rule, eliminates perceived bias towards one conference. There is football outside the south.
Besides, we have already seen both of those matchups.

    1. ND v. 8 FSU
    2. Bama v. 7. Oklahoma
    3. Oregon v. 6. Stanford
    4. Florida v. 5. Kstate

But ,I agree with your overall premise, it is razor thing between most of the teams.

The only bad thing with that is....FSU and OK arent that good. Should just go with top 8 in the BCS. I just put the top 8 from the coaches poll since the BCS isnt out yet (i dont think).
This year, we will never know who the best team is. Its pretty even. Both Bama and ND look very beatable.

    I'd love to see:

    1 vs 8 - Alabama vs. LSU
    2 vs. 7 - LSU vs. Alabama
3 vs. 6 - Nick Saban vs. Les Miles
    4 vs. 5 - LSU vs. Alabama

I'm sorry, but that's completely retarded.

I stopped watching Bama LSU after they both missed 8 field goals and said it was good defense.

As far as the 8 team playoff, take the 5 BCS champions and 3 wildcards(priority given to undefeated teams).

Why? Do you want to see SEC v. SEC for the whole playoffs?

There are other teams out there that may be just as good.

FSU can be very good when on, as can OU, which is like most of the top teams.

I agree, we may never know who the best team is. It is currently a screwed up system.

I want to the see the top 8 ranked teams. Not the teams ranked 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, and 10 because teams 6 and 9 came from a conference that already got 2 in.

Excluding the best teams because of SEC penis envy is retarded.

I'm fine with this if you eliminate pre-season polling until week 4. The SEC gets a built in bias based on nothing.

Yeah, I don't think the fourth best team in a conference belongs in an eight team playoff.
  • WebFire
Top 8, regardless of conference. I agree with sleeper on no preseason polls. Though, those polls have to agree to that, and that's not likely. BCS poll already comes out later anyway.

They do if they are top 8 in the whole country! Why punish a team for being in a good conference?

I don't like seeing so many from one conference, but if they are a top 8 team then they absolutely deserve to be in the playoffs.

Funny, for all the bitching last year about a re-match...this year's 8-team playoff would feature...3 of 4 games being RE-MATCHES!

3 of the 6 AFC NFL playoff teams last year came out of the AFC North. RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE!

and every division was represented without bias.

And 4 teams from the SEC were 10-2. So how can you say which team is really the #3 or #4 best team from the conference? Bama and Florida are an automatic since they only had one loss, but their one loss came to the teams that were 10-2.
So basically, a 4 team playoff wouldnt be good enough this year but most years it would. This year would need a 8 team playoff and it would make college football much more exciting if it was that way every year.
Instead we get lousy BCS games this year.

    *edit* UGA is 11-2.

IMO the 2 team rule is stupid. Here's what the BCS Bowls should have been this season...

    Rose: Stanford vs Wisconsin
    Orange: Florida St vs Georgia
    Sugar: Florida vs Louisville
    Fiesta: Kansas St vs Oregon

The best teams should get in no matter what the case, I would put in a rule that an unranked team cannot make one though. These are our finest bowls, lets not sour them
  • ThePatriot
They need to take the top 4 teams in the SEC. 1 vs 4, 2 vs 3 and the two winners play in the NCG. Only way to be sure you go the best teams in there.

If you want the best teams, why did you leave Wisconsin and Louisville in?

I'd be fine with this but preseason polls have no affect on who the final 8 in the polls will be. It's not like if the preseason #1 team loses 3 times they will somehow be in be top 8 over respectable teams with 1 or 2 losses.
