Brian Kelly rallies the troops!

rock_knutneHere's a video clip of Coach Kelly speaking at halftime of an ND basketball game last week. So far, I've been impressed with what he's saying, none of the Weis "nasty football team" or "schematic advantage" bullshit.

Go Irish! -
killer_ewokYeah. So far he's far from the PR nightmare that Weis was when he spoke. However, I'm done with words. I don't want you to tell me about what you're going to do.....show me.

This is how I would feel if I was a ND fan. You've gone through 3 coaches over the past 15 years that haven't got it done.killer_ewok wrote: Yeah. I like Kelly's approach though. Not cocky at all, but as Killer Ewok said, show what you can do. The time for talk has been over. -
rock_knutneI agree and I've said this for some time, ND has to show me they can get it done on the football field.
-
thedynasty1998I love Brian Kelly!
There is no doubt in my mind that he will win in South Bend. And is that night and day compared to Charlie Weis. -
Little DannyHis right hand ma for the past 20 years, OC Jeff Quinn, just accepted the HC position at the Unversity of Buffalo. Most of his coaches (particualrly on the offensive side of the ball) have been together all these years. It will be interesting to see if the others all go to ND or if some go to Buffalo or remain in Cincinnati.
That being said, watching him the past few years in Cincinnati- the guys got huge cojones. ND fans will be happy with their selection. -
thedynasty1998If any of his assistants can get head coaching jobs they will obviously take them, but would you have be an assistant at Notre Dame or Buffalo?

Fly4FunSo you start a thread in which you say that the time for talk is over... and ND needs to get it done on the field. But the topic is how you like how he's talking... ironic a bit!
Just teasing, no hard feelings.
My main skepticism is the problem at ND really wasn't it's offense... Kelly also showed he had a lack of defense at Cincinnati. I'm not going to make predictions on his success; I'll just wait and see.
However, I will say, I don't immediately hate this guy like I did Weis. -
Mr Pat
Offense was a problem, not as much as the defense, but a bunch of the games Weis' team would get bogged down once they got to the red zone, and it frustrating beyond belief.Fly4Fun wrote: So you start a thread in which you say that the time for talk is over... and ND needs to get it done on the field. I'm saying his approach is night and day compared to when Weis was introduced. Kelly said it himself, "we're not a a five year plan but a five minute plan", that means they have to win, no more talk. -
Hamp89He is so much more fun to listen to, and ND needed a motivator as a coach, BAD. Kelly fits the bill perfectly. Now WIN!

darbypitcher22yeah definately doesn't have the same effect that it did when Tress came on board @ OSU... they may be doing lots of push ups but they can't stop anybody either
-

Yeah, I was at the game where Tressel talked. It was about the same exact message. So I fail to see how it is any different?darbypitcher22 wrote: yeah definately doesn't have the same effect that it did when Tress came on board @ OSU... they may be doing lots of push ups but they can't stop anybody either -

Who mentioned Tressel and who cares? FWIW, most if not all new head football coaches make an appearance like this at a home basketball game. I get the impression from your post that Tressel invented this type of speaking opportunity.darbypitcher22 wrote: yeah definately doesn't have the same effect that it did when Tress came on board @ OSU... they may be doing lots of push ups but they can't stop anybody either -
darbypitcher22You never heard about anybody doing it until Tress showed up, and nobody really has backed up their claims they made during that speech except for Tress
-
rock_knutneLOL........I've seen and heard it done hundreds of times before Tressell did it. BTW, what claim did Tressel make? If my memory serves me correctly he said "you will be proud of our young people", that's pretty vague if you ask me. OSU could have lost that game to UM and the fan base would have still been proud. You act like he made a guarantee.
He had some claim to back up:rolleyes: :
-
darbypitcher22he basically did... said he was gonna beat Michigan, and he did
-
rock_knutne
He never said he was going to beat Michigan, he's too smart to make that kind of a statement or even insinuate such a thing before he's even coached a game. I posted the video for you.darbypitcher22 wrote: he basically did... said he was gonna beat Michigan, and he did -
dat dude
lol, that was a guarantee. Why do you need every "prediction" or claim to be spelled out so literally (i.e. Holtz prediction re: ND in NC game)? Do you think he really just went the fans would be "proud" of the players effort?rock_knutne wrote:

"It sucks we got beat in the biggest rivalry in college football, but at least our kids played hard. I'm so proud!" -
rock_knutne^^^^^That wasn't a guarantee. Really, some of you are foolish beyond belief and if you think that statement he made was in fact a guarantee then it's worse than I thought.
-
dat dude"Foolish beyond belief" to think that his statement was a guarantee? Really? Can you not make an inference?
-
rock_knutne^^^^^^Come on, there's NO WAY he guaranteed a victory over Michigan, NO WAY. For Christ's sake, I posted the video! Again, if you interpret his remarks in that speach as a guarantee, then yes, you're foolish! Tressel isn't a stupid guy and trust me, if he would have spouted off giving guarantees about a game that was a year away, before he even coached one game at OSU, the media would have had a field day with him.

killer_ewok
I'm not sure he's the guy now. He was a helluva consolation prize and I feel more comfortable with a guy who is an established college Head Coach but I'm taking a wait and see approach.......just like a few of the other ND posters on here have said. Cautious optimism.ccrunner609 wrote: So when ND is 1-5 next year are all you stilll going to say that Kelly was spot on the guy?
It just cracks me up. You post this stuff about "all" of us but the fact of the matter is....not "all" of us were/are saying that. -

My biggest pet peeve of all time.killer_ewok wrote:It just cracks me up. You post this stuff about "all" of us but the fact of the matter is....not "all" of us were/are saying that. -
Terry_Tate
I don't post a whole lot on here, but there is no doubt that was as close to a guarantee of a win as you can get without saying it. Why the heck else would he say they'd be proud in 310 days in Ann Arbor, MI? Proud because of effort as another poster pointed out? No, proud because the Buckeyes would come out with a win. Tressel was smart enough to not straight up guarantee a win, but pretty much said they'd win at the same time. Typical Tressel-talk I think, says something without saying it.rock_knutne wrote: ^^^^^^Come on, there's NO WAY he guaranteed a victory over Michigan, NO WAY. For Christ's sake, I posted the video!
