Marquette vs. Ohio State: Carrier Classic

  • se-alum
Are they really going to play this game outside? It's only supposed to be 64 degrees in Charleston on Friday, and once the sun goes down it will be in the 50's.

Awesome!!!! Cool experience. Hope it happens for them.

Why not just play atop a commercial lobster vessel in Alaska in snowsuits?

Honestly, I would hate if my team had to play on top of a boat, especially in relatively poor weather conditions for a college basketball game. This isn't pick-up at the park. The whole Carrier Classic, while an interesting idea at first, is just not that cool, IMO. I could be in the minority on this, though, I don't know.

They don't have to play there. They chose to.

    The Carrier Classic is stupid.

Unless iu was in it. Then you'd be posting about it every 3 minutes.

No, it would still be stupid, lol. I would be more inclined to watch it (I might DVR this game and watch, but probably will DVR UK and MSU games instead, since I will get more OSU coverage throughout the year). I just think playing on a boat, outside, in the elements is about as dumb as you can get for a basketball game. Not to mention, no one can see the game (in person). You are taking away a game for the fans to attend by playing there. The whole thing is just stupid and I wish they would get rid of it. But, because they keep getting good programs to play, the ratings will keep it around.

Also gives service members stationed away from home to see their team play too though. I know 3 people going who are stationed in SC. None of them would be able to see osu play any other way.
The game each year will be less and less exciting till they get rid of it. But it's a cool opportunity for the players and for the service members.

I thought it was cool in San Diego where the weather is pretty constant.

They cant play in an Arena in SC and have the service members attend it? I honestly dont know the "leave" rules in the Military, so I dont want to speculate. Either way, I would think they could find a way to play this thing indoors, even if on the Military base.

Sure they could do it in a hangar. Which I think they are overseas right?

But that's not the point. The point is they are obviously trying to push their military appreciation week and this having the games somewhere that basically ONLY military can watch it. I think the idea is cool, overdone but cool. And if one were to happen here in Hawaii, I'd try to push every button to be there.

I guess it's like saying that when bands or comedians do their USO tours that they shouldn't play on base, they should play off base where anyone can go including the military members. But that's not the point of it. The point is that it's "for" the military members.

Having it on the base would work, right? I mean, Charleston Naval Base has to have a place that can host a basketball game.

I guess we are just going to have to agree to disagree that playing basketball outside is dumb.

BTW, since you are in Hawaii, are you going to try to make the Maui Invitational? I know OSU isnt in it, but its always a great tourney.
  • Midstate01
They could do it on base, but navy bases really wouldn't have a place to hold it indoors.

Maui,Not this year. I will for sure next year. I'll probably go down to watch the diamondhead classic again. Xavier was in it last year. Haven't looked to see who's in it this year.

    Gotcha.

Decent field for the diamondhead classic. I'll go if we are here, not sure if we will be home for Christmas or until after Christmas.

Those are pretty cool. Reminds me of Baylor's camo jerseys with the neon green lettering. Like the Oregon Ducks' football unis, I love Baylor basketball gear. It's pretty sick. Wish Duke would do something unique with bright blue every once in awhile or something else different. The Nike hyper elite grey uniforms last year that were made out of recycled pop cans or whatever for schools like Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina, Syracuse, Arizona and Florida were just awful. Nike is hit or fucking way off.

    TRUTH!

But actually I enjoy your comments because we wouldn't know much about iu without it.

    Good to hear.

I typically try to only post about them when it involves the other schools on here (Cuse, UK, Duke, UNC or the B1G/OSU).

I have a feeling you will hear enough about them this year, since they wont be completely irrelevant lol. So my posting might start to annoy you more :)
  • Midstate01
I'm sure it will. Mostly because I can't stand iu. But still like the insight. So annoy on..

My buddy just texted me that his father in law, who lives in charleston, got them two tickets. Lucky bastard.
  • Classyposter58
IMO basketball outside is a terrible idea in a game that counts. Heck me and my buddies rarely play outside and it's me and my buddies. In a game that actually counts...what if it's windy?
