10/20: #5 Notre Dame def. Brigham Young, 17-14

  • sjmvsfscs08
Catholics vs. Mormons.....although the best "Catholic" is Mormon.

Notre Dame hasn't allowed a touchdown since September 8, but BYU is only allowing 13.6ppg.

Is Everett Golson healthy? Does Tommy Rees--who looks like he can make the reads about 10000x better than Golson--start regardless?

    Notre Dame 34
    BYU 9

Major trap game. I hope they don't get caught looking ahead to Oklahoma.

Wrong Notre Dame has allowed a touchdown. Last week Stanford got a TD. Their defense hasn't allowed one. :)

I'll be at this one. It will be my wife's first time seeing a game in South Bend.

Hoping ND wins so it'll be a memorable trip for us.

I have always been against pulling golson for Rees but right now I'm kinda leaning towards tommy. Golson has to get his reads down. Also just found out my brothers hs coach does something with notre dame for the refs or something and said if I can get tickets to a game sometime he will hook me up with sideline passes and be able to go into the locker room and such. I'm definitely doing it next year

I don't think there's a need to pull Golson right now. Kelly just needs to adjust the gameplan for him. He's young. He's going to make mistakes. Build up his confidence by establishing the running game and running more short slants and screens. Rees can definitely make the reads easier, but Golson has the ability to extend plays and make things happen.

I really feel that Kelly isn't using Golson the right way right now. With three running backs that would start on just about any other team in the country, and a QB who can run like Golson does, why are they not running more read options, speed options, and counters?

But if Golson is hurt, this is all moot anyways.

Possible concussion, could be cleared on Tuesday.

Riddick wouldn't start for more than half of the BCS schools. He's mediocre at best.

Atkinson does possess amazing speed but there's a reason he's never in there for blocking. He wouldn't start for a whole lot of good teams.

Hyperbole. Point being...Wood, Riddick, and GA3 are all tough running backs and provide ND with a lot of depth. But with all three of them and a mobile QB, there is no reason why this ND team shouldn't be running the ball way more than they are right now.

They ran the ball 30 straight plays last week and had almost 400 yards. Stanford's defense is a lot better against the run which is why they didn't run as much.
  • sjmvsfscs08
It's really hard to run all of the time against stacked boxes the defenses throw out there because they dare your young QB to audible out and/or pass the ball.

I know. Against Navy, Michigan State, and Miami the Irish did a great job establishing the run. The other three games, ND didn't establish the run early, and seemed to go throw-first. Those were the three games that they struggled.

The Michigan State game was very clearly a throw-first game. I'm not sure what you saw there. They didn't run well until the second half.

I was hammered at a buddy's wedding and watched the game at the bar at the reception. Sure seemed like there was a lot of running in that game. But an entire day of drinking could be impairing my memory slightly.

Also why the hell in wood not getting many Carries? He must really be in the dog house. I honestly think its kills the running game when cierre is not carrying the ball.

Completely agree. I am not a fan of Riddick at all.

    Riddick - 80 carries, 308 yards, 3.9 average
    Atkinson - 32 carries, 290 yards, 9.1 average
    Wood - 47 carries, 279 yards, 5.9 average

Wood is actually having his best season yet. The last two seasons he had 5.1ypc. Wood needs to be the main guy for this team.

I also don't understand why the passing game isn't using more slants. It's the easiest route in football. I see Golson trying to hit seam routes and outs, but no slants. WTF.

Oh "they" (meaning the ND Defense) definitely allowed one last Saturday but the Loyal Order of Catholic Referees overuled it.

lol-don't care if you think they were right or wrong, this is funny :D

Another "real" tough game for the National Champion Notre Dame Fighting Irish. My, my, 6-0 and you'd think they've actually won something.

I hope ND wins this one. I'd really love to see them in a BCS bowl game this year.

The Pope is German...why did you make him have a terrible stereotypical Italian accent in that vision of yours?
