Big Games (and random chatter) Thread 10/13/2012

  • Azubuike24
Just scanning the schedule for next week. These are what I consider to be big games next Saturday ;)

    6) Kansas State (5-0) at Iowa State (4-1) - ISU comes off a big win over TCU, which starts a brutal stretch for them. K-State, at this point, is a possible title contender with a showdown looming on Oct. 20th in Morgantown, WV. Don't look past the Cyclones.

    15) Texas (4-1) at 13) Oklahoma (3-1) - Obviously the game is in Dallas, and both still have hopes of a BCS bid. OU hosts Notre Dame in 2 weeks whereas Texas has a very manageable schedule after the Red River Shootout.

Wisconsin (4-2) at Purdue (3-2) - Winner gains commanding control of the B1G Leaders Division.

    5) West Virginia (5-0) at Texas Tech (4-1) - Tech looked bad against OU at home while WVU won a second straight shootout. WVU will be a double digit favorite, or very close, but the game might set a record for number of passes attempted.

    10) Oregon State (4-0) at Brigham Young (4-2) - This could be a serious trap game for OSU as they look forward to an inevitable Civil War showdown with Oregon. BYU started slow but has looked good the last few weeks.

    17) Stanford (4-1) at 7) Notre Dame (5-0) - Really tough 3 week stretch for the Irish with Stanford, BYU and Oklahoma. Get past that, and it's likely 11-0 heading out to LA and a possible national title bid on the line.

    3) South Carolina (6-0) at 9) Louisiana State (5-1) - The Gamecocks look like title contenders after throttling Georgia, but at LSU and at Florida in back to back weeks will test them to the max. LSU's offense vs Carolina's defense looks like a nightmare in the waiting for Les Miles.

Texas A&M (4-1) at Louisiana Tech (5-0) - Looking for an exciting game that goes under the radar, this may just be it. Originally scheduled for opening night, Tech has started 5-0 and averaging over 50 PPG. Utah State is still in the mix, but Sonny Dykes may be able to send a serious message with a win here, setting up a possible showdown with also unbeaten Texas San Antonio in a month.

Sorry, I have to bring it up again. But Nebraska/OSU was an irrelevant game... but Wisconsin vs. Purdue is a big game?

    :banghead:

He did state his reasoning, and I guess since we are in the Big Ten, we should care some too.

The Purdue/Wisky listing was partially to appease the B1G supporters on here and partially because it DOES actually have some possible BCS implications. I'd agree though, it could easily be omitted from the list.

Some of those games on the list has me smh.
And USCe wont be at home next week. They wont play the way they did yday.
  • Tiger2003
Oregon St vs BYU is a trap game because of Civil War game? You have me scratching my head on this one. The Beavers don't play Oregon until Nov. 24.
  • Azubuike24
Look at their schedule after BYU. Outside of at Stanford, it's not bad at all. Maybe "trap game" was the wrong word. Possible slip up might be better. Some Beaver fans are already talking about being unbeaten for that game. Don't look past the Cougs.
  • Tiger2003
Yah they have to go to Washington as well.

All games could be dangerous, but if OSU is elite, U-Dub shouldn't scare them. U-Dub got blasted by LSU and Oregon. They did beat Stanford, but I still think OSU is at least a TD favorite in Seattle.

pretty damn good for a game involving a team that's "irrelevant"....reps
  • Azubuike24
I'll never live that one down will I...

    ^^^lol--sorry, Azu, I couldn't resist

Starting QB to have knee surgery, expected to miss a few games.

"5) West Virginia (5-0) at Texas Tech (4-1) - Tech looked bad against OU at home while WVU won a second straight shootout. WVU will be a double digit favorite, or very close, but the game might set a record for number of passes attempted."

Somewhat surprising but West Virginia is only -3.5 right now on sportsbook.

I picked this game as my upset special ;)

    Funniest thing about those ratings.
NBC College Football: Miami at Notre Dame (8-11PM) - Live 1.1/3 3.50
    9:00 CBS NCIS- R 0.7/2 3.51
Reruns of NCIS > ND Football.
  • karen lotz
The game was 34-3 at 9. I'm guessing the people that tuned in to watch ND lose needed something else to watch.

I know those people exist, but I've never understood how you can watch a game when you're only looking for someone to lose. (I have a friend who watched every browns game until he thinks they are going to win. I have no idea what he has against cleveland - and he hates the whole city and cincinnati too - or how you can get enjoyment out of that.)
  • karen lotz
Yeah I don't really get it either but to each their own.
  • Iliketurtles
Lotz did you have ender write you a script so anytime someone posts about ND it notifies you? I mean seriously 4 minutes and you were on here defending them... can't you just ever take a joke?
  • karen lotz
I wasn't defending them, I made a joke in response to your joke. Can you not take a joke? Get off my nuts.
  • Fly4Fun
I don't think that many people watch an ND game from the beginning to see them lose. But I'm sure some will tune in if an upset or loss is in the making. I'm guessing any of the "haters" ever tuned into the game at all.

Would be safe to bet against LSU sat. Another starter probably missing game do to personal issues (O lineman). Clowney going to tear LSU and our QB up. Might be up to 8 or so starters out. Read somewhere where LSU only has 6 starters from last year starting now due to draft, injuries, suspensions.....out of 22.
  • Azubuike24
A&M and Tech might be the most entertaining game of the weekend. Definitely looking forward to it.
