I'd rather play in I-A football than I-AA footballjordo212000 wrote: My point wasn't that I thought that App St. could make it in the Big 10 or Big East, it was just that signing up for the Sun Belt would be stupid. I'd rather be independent then play in that garbage of a conference
I'd rather dominate a crap conference and eventually get invited to move into C-USA or Big East, just like Marshall or Cincinnati did.
Everyone has to start somewhere -

Independent as in Notre Dame and Navy. (i.e. no conference). Being independent does not = staying in D-IAA :huh:redfalcon wrote:

Isn't the Sun Belt one of those conferences you'd like to see have an automatic playoff bid in your playoff system?jordo212000 wrote: My point wasn't that I thought that App St. could make it in the Big 10 or Big East, it was just that signing up for the Sun Belt would be stupid. Being in a conference is much better than being independent because of the bowl ties. They are going to play a crap schedule no matter what, so why not be sure that you are going to be rewarded for it? -

Nope, I am not in favor of the Sun Belt getting into any kind of playoff. That was somebody elseenigmaax wrote:

My bad - hard to keep track of people from all those pages on the playoff thread.jordo212000 wrote:

IMO it really seems like automatic bids are part of the problem with the BCS. You are either deserving, or you aren't. Thus, if there was ever a playoff I would hope that they pick the best teams available.enigmaax wrote:

Even if they don't ever make a bowl game they'd still get bowl money from their conference every year. And they would get a ton more TV revenue than they get now, regardless of their conference.ccrunner609 wrote: Why in the hell would they do that?
THey all get to play in a system that has a playoff.. None of these teams will ever see a bowl game -

Agreed on both points.jordo212000 wrote:

SageOut of all the teams mentioned, Montana has the best facilities/stadium/prestige to make the jump to 1-A. The debate has been going on forever in Missoula. I think they should, although losing Bobby Hauck to UNLV will probably hurt.
-
SageAlso, no team jumping to 1-A from 1-AA would be immediately successful. New recruiting pipelines would have to be established and things of that nature.
-
darbypitcher22Montana could probably compete in the Mountain West after a couple of years of recruiting under their belts
-
MulvaFlorida Atlantic was basically immediately successful after making the jump.
They won bowls in their 3rd and 4th seasons in 1-AA, with a Sun Belt title as well. It's rare but not unheard of.
And Montana would instantly become my 2nd favorite team I think. Something about them just draws me in. -

Paladin1AAFirst of all Elliot Stabler has no credibility with this thread. It's not called I-A it's called FBS, and Appalachian State abbreviated isn't Appy State they are App State. Either take the time to make a non ignorant statement or don't post on the subject. Ohh well the Obama avatar suits him well.

I-A is something that everyone is still familiar with, and it instantly convey what he means to everyone. Also, Appy State does the same thing. Quit whining because your I-AA school hasn't been mentioned on this list. -
SykotykWhoa whoa whoa. We're getting complaints about what we call something by a man named "Paladin1AA". Freehuddle wasn't around before the NCAA changed the titles, so why stick with the historical name?
Also, people can call teams whatever they want to abbreviate. How many fans kept calling them "Pitt" even during that transition time they wanted to be known as "Pittsburgh".
