The Worst of the Worst (9/22/2012)

He actually inherited a more-talented team than probably 25% of the BCS. Go back and look at their recruiting. Not nearly as bad as the team record from the past few years. Hell, the recruiting has been better in the last 5 years than half the Pac 12...

For instance, recruiting between Oregon State and Washington State...favors Wazzou...the results? Eh...

It clearly didn't pan out though. What do they have, 8 wins in 4 years? Leach never had a losing season at Tech though, so we'll see how they bounce back.

Maybe he was just too distracted from talk like a pirate day to gameplan properly this week.

Clearly it never panned out, but usually that's more about coaching. We'll see. Coaches get judged all the time on wins and losses, but many others get praised or barbecued when it doesn't directly correlate with recruiting rankings.

I mentioned OSU because I tend to think Mike Reilly, relative to the talent he has, is a great coach. One of the top 10 in the nation. His results show this if you looked at his recruiting and wins/losses on a parallel ranking.

Wazzou blew a 3 TD lead. Leach was still passing the ball with a lead in the 4th quarter. Love him or hate him, the guy only knows one way to play. It cost him the game today against a team that had NOTHING to play for, already losing to their in-state rival and destined for a 0-win season. They should have put them away. This is the only part of the game I saw, after WSU had a 31-14 lead. They stopped CU on the next drive and had the ball with about 13 minutes left. Instead of trying to milk it, they had I believe a 4-play drive with 2 incompletions. CU then went 70 yards to cut it to 31-21 and proceeded to stop WSU twice more and convert 2 more TD's and win at the buzzer.

The way Leach coached this game, they play Oregon, at Oregon State, California, at Stanford, at Utah, UCLA, at Arizona State and Washington. The bolded games being the only ones the Cougs will be favored in, meaning if they split those and don't pull another win out of their ass, they finish LAST in the Pac 12...

Mike Riley is a great coach once September ends. Too bad his teams are never playing for anything significant after the 1st month.

Also, South Florida lost to Ball State. The Skip Holtz decision turning out to be a bad one for the Bulls. 5-7 last year and now 2-2 this year.

The Civil War at Reser this year...that might have Pac 12 title game bid on the line. We'll see...impressive win today for the Beavs.

That is a head scratcher. They beat F$U in Tallacrappy just 3 years ago with a Fr QB. I thought Skip would thrive in Tampa.

    SEC trio:

LSU down 10-9 to Auburn. Embarrassing given how Auburn has played in all 3 games this year.
    Arkansas down 14-10 to Rutgers.
Tennessee only up 13-10 on Akron.

Also FIU still up on Big East favorite Louisville. 14-7 near half although Louisville is close to a TD.

Maybe John L Smith bet $25 million on Rutgers?

    Well played.

Would it shock anyone? He's on a sinking ship and it's not like he's waiting for another job. I know you meant it facetiously but still...

But LSU is by FAR the 2nd best team in the country. How can they possibly be struggling!!!!!!? Lol

And cgw has a laundry list of previous years' achievements to prove it!

Akron and Tennessee 23-23 at half.
Arkansas down 28-13 in the 3rd. Interim coach might be fired after 4 games.

Illinois down 21-17 to Louisiana Tech, although unfortunately I don't think many people would find that a surprise.

Not sure what is more impressive thus far. Georgia's offense or defense. Their D has looked good this year and their offense is scary. Not that Vanderbilt is good, but they are absolutely dominating them. It's 34-3 but it's been a completely one-sided contest.

LSU had better drop at least 2-3 spots this week, even if they win. Auburn has been a bad team for any BCS conference standards.

LOLSU rushes a field goal attempt and misses. All Auburn needs is a field goal to win.
  • ts1227
Nice plays there Gene Shurmur. (Though the one downfield pass the QB missed by a mile)

It's more likely that Auburn will be ranked next week for a close loss.

LSU survives. Kiehl Frazier might be the worst 1-A QB in the country. I have no idea how Auburn is that desparate for a QB.
    Illinois down 45-17 to LouisianaTech.
Arkansas loses to Rutgers, and the preseason top 10 Razorbacks are 1-3.
    Tennesee up 30-26 on Akron.

Honestly, if this season doesn't serve as an example for college football to cut about 10 bowl games no season ever will.

Arkansas is exhibit A of SEC hype. All fluff.

That's just how great every team is in the SEC. The worst SEC team can still play within 2 pts of any #2 ranked team in the nation, and would be undefeated in the b1g, winning every game 50-0.

    sleeper'd ;)

Sleeper has made some good points (did I just say that). However, this year there isn't much room to talk.

Notre Dame is about to be 4-0 and 3-0 against the B1G.
The B1G is at best the 4th best league, arguably 5th and is about to go to 4-9 against BCS schools.
The SEC is on track to play for, if not win, another title.

    Just the facts for 2012...

Rob Spence was a successful OC at Toledo about 10 yrs back. He was very good last year here at Bethune Cookman, now he is QB coach at Rutgers. Good job, coach. Soph QB Nova had 25/35, 397yds, 5 TDs
