Random Game Chatter 9/8

yeah, cats, what exactly would they have been denying? you have two teams officially ineligible (osu/psu), two more unofficially ineligible (indiana/minny). four who are always good for a "meh" (illinois/purdue/northwestern/iowa). so that leaves wisky, the michigan schools and nebraska as title contenders. i think everyone pretty much knew those four were deeply flawed teams and it shows given that michigan and wisconsin have losses and nebraska is struggling with ucla

You're right. It makes perfect sense. Look at the SEC though.

Florida won the title just 5 seasons ago.
Auburn won the title just 3 seasons ago.

Both of those teams, might not go .500 in the conference. Auburn is already 0-2 on the year and might end up with a losing season.

Mississippi State, South Carolina, Arkansas have all stepped up, to go along with LSU, Alabama and then still Florida, Missouri, Georgia and A&M. Tennessee and Vanderbilt aren't that bad but will take their lumps because of the schedule. Kentucky and Mississippi suck, Auburn isn't that far behind (from what I've seen).

This isn't "conference thumping." I have no room to talk. My team is the worst in the conference and would be fighting for bottom 3 in the Pac 12, B1G and Big XII. Still, it's not even a debate...

BTW, Kentucky is smacking Kent State around. From what I read, Kent was one of the better MAC schools this year. UK is going to have nearly 600 yards of offense by the end of this one...which is amazing because their offense was one of the worst 10 in the country last year.

    Meh, middle of the road.

I read this preview earlier...no doubt by a MAC writer.

    7:30 p.m. — Kent State (1-0) at Kentucky (0-1, SEC) TV: ESPN3

And FINALLY, we get to a realistic SEC victory. Kent State had no business playing Alabama last year but Nick Saban wanted someone to kick around. They did not look good against them, naturally. But Kentucky did not look all that excellent against Louisville on Sunday, and yes it was Towson but KSU looked great, save for ahem ahem throatclear. I don't know if this one's important to win for KSU, but if they do it's going to be their first nonconference win over an FBS program since 2007 when they took down Iowa State 23-14 — and both teams finished 3-9. That's a long time. It would also likely serve as another reason for the SEC to try and do something about their weak link should the Flashes figure this one out, but it would also create a perception of an even deeper MAC East. I've been big on Kent State and you should be too, and hey, they've won five of their last six games ... nobody particularly outstanding but they're taking care of business. This would count as their finest win in a while on name recognition only, and maybe Roosevelt Nix starts getting more national attention.

If the mildcats had an offense they'd be pretty good. Down 10-6 to Vandy in Evanston.
  • Mulva
Nebraska is very lucky Hundley went out injured.

Arkansas is having a lot of trouble with UL-Monroe, only up 28-21 at home. Tyler Wilson was knocked out of the game for Arkansas.
  • Azubuike24
Losing Wilson is a huge loss.

UL Monroe is tough. I played as them last year in NCAA 12 and their qb and rb are legit.

ULM touchdown on 4th and 10 with 47 seconds to go. Need the PAT...
  • Azubuike24
Would you have gone for 2 there?

Mizzou and A&M doing pretty well for their SEC debuts, even tho A&M lost. Mizzou vs UGA game is a pretty good game, along with the UCLA/NEB game.
If ARK lose, wow. They hired the wrong guy anyhow.
  • Azubuike24
ULM has a shot, even if it's a very small one.
  • Terry_Tate
Too much air on that, he powers it in there and it's an easy field goal.

Thought about that. With Arkansas having the back up qb I think playing for OT is fine.

    Duh Mizzou

    Agree 100%

A defensive penalty there is a killer. Arkansas has been terrible the 2nd half offensively.
  • ts1227
Florida St./Savannah St. game called off in the 3rd due to weather at 55-0. How pissed would you be if you bet on FSU, knowing they would have won by 70+ had they plated the full 60y
  • cats gone wild
    nice deflection by ULM
  • Tiger2003
Great defensive play on 1st down.

ULM has a chance to be an SEC killer. Beat Bama a couple years back. COuld beat Ark and Auburn this year.
  • Tiger2003
ESPN trying to get a call for Arkansas.
  • Terry_Tate
    Touchdown wins it for ULM.
  • Tiger2003
Damn the camera is so far from the field.
