    Why so few appearances?
Because it is more difficult to win the SEC than it is to beat someone in a bowl game. When your conference has accounted for about half of the national titles, split between three schools, and three other schools who have either gone undefeated or finished in the top five (may add one more title this year), it isn't a cakewalk for anyone to get there every year.

When you are the ONLY national player in your conference, you should have more appearances.

7 different Big Ten teams have played in BCS bowls. 6 different SEC teams have played in BCS bowls.

    "SEC schedule>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Big Ten schedule "

Why? Because some folks (usually SEC homers) say it is? Usually the SEC has 2-4 really good teams, if not great, 4-7 good teams and 3-5 stinker teams, and a few that are in the middle of one of those three categories, for years I've heard this argument and that is why their out of conference scheduling is so lousy, but I mean come on, between Vanderbilt, Miss. St., Kentucky, South Carolina, Arkansas and Ole Miss you can typically count on a few easy weeks, Tennessee has a great tradition but has been pretty lousy recently, Alabama is great this year but just a few years ago they stunk and ran through more head coaches than Notre Dame, even Auburn and Georgia have been up and down. Florida and LSU are the only two teams that have been as consistently solid as Ohio St.

That would mean something if all those different schools earned automatic bids. The Big Ten has gotten at least three BCS bids based exclusively on the fact that the Rose Bowl is tied to them. Overall, the Big Ten has a losing record in BCS bowls, while the SEC is far and away the best of the big six conferences.

Besides that, the point is that those SEC teams are playing for/winning national titles. That means you are one of the top two teams in the country, not one of the top 14. Ohio State has not had to compete with ANY other national title contenders (you can have Michigan in 2006 if you want) and obviously doesn't on a yearly basis. Tennessee, LSU, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, and Auburn have all finished in the top two in the BCS era. That is some serious company. You can add the coaching experience throughout the league - Spurrier has a title, Mullen and Kiffin won titles as coordinators - and you see why no one team is going to be a lock every single year.

OSU is a great program, there's no doubt. Tressel is a great coach, there's little doubt. But their road is much different. They are clearly better than the competition they face in the Big Ten. You've got Paterno with a couple titles, but who is comparable to Spurrier in that it was a LONG time ago and you have Dantonio (who was a coordinator on the Buckeyes title team?) and then what? Kirk Ferentz? Ron Zook? Rich Rodriguez?

That is crap. Who are these great out of conference schools they play? The SEC refuses to travel outside their area to play an away game.

Most of the SEC play the bowl games in their own region.

I would love to see any SEC team play in Madison in late November or in December.

That would be interesting since the Badgers do not even play in Madison in the last week of November or early December.

Oh, so it is a 4-game season now? Otherwise, who the hell cares who someone plays out of conference. I know, you are going to whip out the "OSU plays USC" or "Wisconsin plays...........Fresno!". Line all the non-conference schedules up and you aren't going to find a whole heck of a lot of difference between any of the major conferences.

My question to you is where do you stand on TCU or Boise's legitimacy as a national title contender?

Every even numbered year they end the year at home in late November.

Beyond Alabama this year, what other SEC schools plays in a bowl outside of a SEC state?

Those SEC states also happen to be ACC states and Big XII states and Sun Belt states. My god, you can't make the whole country one team's backyard just because someone on their schedule plays there. Have you seen the crowds at bowl games? They are split up pretty well. So what other advantage would there be - the weather?

Which states do both the SEC and Big 12 both have schools? C-USA is barely better than the MAC.

son - The Cotton Bowl is in Texas - that is a Big XII state, right? The Chick-fil-a bowl is in Atlanta, that is Georgia Tech's town so does that make it a home game for Clemson? Now who has the advantage in the Liberty Bowl since both Arkansas and ECU play against teams from Louisiana - does ECU win that since La Tech is closer to the bowl facility? See how retarded that is?

No, I got your point, which was that SEC teams play bowl games in states that other SEC teams play home games. Big.freaking.deal.

Nothing, he is an idiot troll. It's fun showing them how stupid they are every now and then as long as it doesn't take too much effort.

    Back to the thread topic,

OSU soon to be 5-3 in BCS bowls. LSU soon to be . . . oh yeah, irrelevant again.
  • devil1197
When OSU win on Jan 1st they will be 2nd in BCS wins along with Florida (5) behind USC at (6).

Most appearances and 2nd most victories, nice I'll take it.

    incorrect

21 teams currently have a losing record in BCS games. And it you meant # of losses, FSU and Oklahoma each have 5
