12/19: (10) North Carolina vs. (2) Texas at Cowboys Stadium
-
ironman02North Carolina (8-2) travels to Dallas, TX on Saturday to lock horns with Texas (9-0) in the first basketball game to be played in the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium. Any thoughts on the game?
On a side note, UNC commit and the #1 player in the 2010 class, Harrison Barnes, played on ESPN tonight. Barnes' team, Ames (IA) High School defeated Waukegan (IL) by a score of 87-59. Barnes scored 26 points, grabbed 13 rebounds, and had 4 assists and 6 steals in the winning effort.
Watching high school basketball can be pretty ugly at times, but Ames played very well as a team and I was impressed by Barnes. He can do a little bit of everything and really looks to get his teammates involved...very unselfish, but extremely talented as well. Did any of the Carolina fans get a chance to watch? -
hoops23Can't wait for Harrison Barnes.. My friend who is a Duke fan is still pissed about that.. He thought for sure he was going to be a Dukie..
As for this game, I don't think we'll see a repeat of the MSU game at Ford Field, I'm just hoping UNC can keep it within a couple of possessions to have a chance at the end..
I feel Texas is the 2nd best team in the country and not far off from KU... -
ironman02LTrain,
I haven't had a chance to see Texas play this season. Because of that, I'm not sure what to expect on Saturday, other than the obvious. I'm sure it's going to be a huge challenge for Carolina, and like you, I just hope they can give themselves a chance to win in the final minutes.
This is yet another big OOC game against a tough opponent that should only allow Carolina to get better, but I really hope they can pull this one off. They have quality wins over OSU (w/ Turner) and MSU, but tough losses to #3 UK and #5 'Cuse. There would be no shame in losing to #2 Texas, but I really want this one badly to build some major momentum heading into ACC play in a few weeks. Things should get a little easier in the next couple weeks with Marshall, Rutgers, and Albany coming to Chapel Hill and a matchup with Charleston on the road, but a win against the Horns would give this young team a ton of confidence. -
hoops23I've seen Texas a few times this season, they are going to be the best team we've played all year...
HOWEVER, they don't provide the problems defensively that Syracuse did.
So, UNC could pull this off, but I'm wondering if the atmosphere will be a bit much for the young Heels...
We shall see... I have to work Saturday though, so I'll miss it... There is no point in DVR'ing it either, because I'll be glued to my phone on ESPN.com following the gamecast lol.. -
HeelzA little late but I did get to see the 2nd half of Barnes game and was impressed with what I saw, he didn't dominate the scoring column like most #1 recruits but did everything very well. Very well rounded game and I'm very excited to see him in Carolina blue next year along with Bullock and Marshall ...could get ugly for alot of the other teams.
-
ironman02Just a little less than an hour until tip-off. They're expecting a crowd of 40,000+ at Cowboys Stadium today. Should be an electric atmosphere.
Hope the Heels can put together a solid performance against the #2 team in the nation. -
swamisezCarolina shouldn't have to shoot the three to win this game, which is a good thing because they aren't shooting the ball very well from the perimeter.
The bodies Carolina will throw at Dexter Pittman should be enough to contain him, I like the heels by 8. -
ironman02After sitting out against Presbyterian, I'm hearing that Ginyard (foot) is expected to play, but Strickland (knee) may not go. Not having Dex could really hurt. Hope he ends up playing.
-
wildcats20Ginyard is in the starting line up, no word on Dexter yet.
-
ironman02Both teams not shooting well. May be the dome factor.
-
MulvaTexas is not the 2nd best team in the country. I think Carolina wins this one.
-
wildcats20Carolina getting the ball down low is going to win this game for them. Pittman is too out of shape to continually bang with the bigs for the Heels.
-
swamisezPittman is in much better shape. He has lost over 80 pounds since he came to austin.
He will be fine today, he will just not have enough in the tank given the numbers the heels have. -
ironman02Strickland is in there...good to see.

That's kind of what I meant.swamisez wrote: Pittman is in much better shape. He has lost over 80 pounds since he came to austin.

ironman02Why can't this team take care of the damn ball?
-
wildcats20Lucas is going to be a stud for Barnes and co.
-
ironman02Deon Thompson needs to start making shots.
And that was pathetic team defense on Bradley's drive to the bucket...stop the ball. -
ironman02Nice job by Davis. Working hard on the offensive glass.
-
ironman02Is it just me, or does Graves do something stupid everytime he comes in the game? I hate to be hard on the guy, but he just seems lost lately.
And Carolina needs to REBOUND! -
MulvaPittman is manhandling UNC right now.
-
ironman02Offensive foul on Pittman? Guess not.
-
Ironman92If a high arcing shot his the tv screen does the play resume or is it a dead ball?
-

It's considered out of bounds, like in a high school gym if it hits the ceiling.Ironman92 wrote: If a high arcing shot his the tv screen does the play resume or is it a dead ball?
And no one is going to hit the huge HD screen, but the temporary scoreboard does seem a little low. -
wildcats20
He does, but then he probably is the best 3 pt shooter on the team.ironman02 wrote: Is it just me, or does Graves do something stupid everytime he comes in the game? I hate to be hard on the guy, but he just seems lost lately.
