I Wish Jared Sullinger Was....

Elton Brand with more athleticism and 3pt range. Young Elton before the injury too.
  • OneBuckeye
May doesn't have the outside game that sully has and will have.

He's not a 3. End of discussion. He's the definition of a power forward.

He is good enough to be a one and done. Hell JJ Hickson went in the first round a couple years ago, and Sullinger will surely be better than him. Hansbrough went 13th, and Sullinger has a ton more upside than him.

So to think he's not a first rounder after one year is ridiculous. It's a fact. Plain and simple. Now whether he leaves after one year, no one knows. I have a feeling he's at OSU at least 2 years. But don't think he's not talented enough.

As for NBA comparisons, I think of him as a Chris Webber. More athletic than he looks. Great hands and smart player.

Although I agree in ways with the Sean May and Elton Brand comparisons.

He doesn't look like a 3 to me, but HIDDENGEMS claims he has handles and a perimeter game that is hidden because his team needs him down low.

If he has as much potential as many on this board think he does, he would be throwing away money by not realizing much of that potential before leaving for the NBA. Being a lottery pick is great, but being a top 3 pick is much better from a financial standpoint.

At the very least, I hope he has a more positive impact on the OSU program than Koufos and Mullins did.

Ive seen him at a few showcases(so not aau or school basketball) and he does have pretty good handles for a big man, can stroke some 3's and is pretty athletic....But lets be real here...look at the 3 men in the NBA theyd eat him for lunch. Melo, Bron, Granger,Rashard Lewis, ect ect. Hed be fine at the 4 though.
  • thedynasty1998
Offensively he might have 3 man skills, but that doesn't mean you can confuse him for a 3. He's a back to the basket, on the block player that can step out on occasion.

And the only time he showed off his "handles" is the last possession of the game when he brought the ball up. He didn't turn it over, but he certainly didn't confuse me into thinking he has "handles".

I will be "bold" enough right now to predict he'll be FAR better than either Koufos or Mullens in his first year at OSU (assuming he stays healthy). Far better.

I'm just saying he's going to get faster, stronger, BETTER. He may be able to play the 3--not all the time, just in situations. Michael Beasley plays the 3.

Daddy Sullinger has said he wants his son to stay four years. Now, will that end up being just words? I don't know, but we'll find out soon enough.
I hope he stays at OSU.

Yes, I'm a UNC fan, but I root for OSU as well.. I have my reasons as being a UNC fan, but that doesn't keep me from also having an interest in how the Bucks are doing.

I'd love for this stacked OSU class to stay together past 1 season, but talent like Sullinger is hard to pass up on in terms of the NBA draft. He'll most likely be 1 and done, I don't care what "daddy Sullinger" said.. He'll change his mind when he sees $$$$$$$$$$$ signs..
Well, if your a UNC fan, then I think you would agree, that Sully, right now, is very much like former UNC player, Sean May. Same bodies, same game. Right now, May isn't exactly lighting it up in the NBA.
Again, Sully has great upside. But he has a ways to go in building strength, conditioning and quickness before he is ready to play in the NBA.
Let's be real here, May was a lottery pick who couldn't stay in shape and didn't put in the effort outside of the game itself to be a successful NBA player. The tools were there, and technically, still are, but he really let himself go..

JJ Hickson, a post player who had some great scoring abilities went 19th after his freshman year. I'd say Sullinger has a higher ceiling than JJ, which would make him a lottery pick.

I don't think he'll stay more than his frosh season, but it's not going to surprise me if he did...

After all, we had Ed Davis come back, even though he was projected as a top 10 pick.

Define far better. Koufos was 2nd on the team in scoring and led the team in rebounds and blocks.

14 and 7 is pretty solid for a freshman. He wasn't the player that a lot of people wanted him to be, but that doesn't mean he wasn't effective, especially down the stretch.

Here are a couple of links to some NBA draft sites and what they write about Sullinger.

He does have what I talked about but not to play a 3 spot. Couldnt check a 3 man. Plus 4's need to be versatile too and especially at OSU in the 4 out system.

A sample of his outside game was on display at my showcase. Go to youtube and type in hidden gems showcase jared sullinger. Several clips show him doing some perimeter stuff.

As for Sullinger. Absolute BEAST! He'll face double teams at OSU next year as well, but not nearly as much as he does now and he'll be able to take advantage of one-on-one matchups.

I don't think he's a one and done, but that's not because he's not good enough. I think after a year in college, he's a lottery pick. But he seems like the kind of kid that will give college a couple years before bolting.

He has a great feelf or the game, great hands, good touch and great body positioning. You really don't see someone as polished as he is at the HS level. Yes, he lacks athleticism, but he makes up for it.
He has A LOT of athleticism for a HS Senior who's 6-8 260. VERY soft hands and 10 of 10 on free throws. Please supply a list of HS kids that LARGE who are/were MORE "athletic".

    In high school?????

To play the 3 spot in the NBA he has to drop 30 pounds.

You mean what NBA player when he was a HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR reminds you of Sullinger?. Sullinger is better than Elton Brand at this stage. Brand played 2 years at Duke before going to the NBA after Duke went to the Final Four. Why wouldn't Sullinger play at least 2 years at Ohio State?

How about Kevin Love??? Powerful player with face up skills who rebounds the basketball .

If you know Satch you know he pretty much runs his sons. I'm not saying that as a bad thing but he is an utlimate authority who they all look up to. He will go when his dad says he should. Satch could feel his son is ready and tell him to go or tell him to continue to get better. Satch is also very big on education and was a college coach himself.

    LMAO, what?

I don't care who he is, what he does or how he treats his kids--if the kid is told he'll be a lottery pick he's going to make his own choice regardless of how his dad feels about it. At that point what difference does it make what your dad thinks? Not like he wouldn't be able to "make it on his own".

SQ i think is implying he could play the 3 offensively while i believe Dynasty is inferring that he couldn't defend at the 3. both of which i agree with.

Sully's handle is the most unique part of his game. he can kill people off the dribble, bring the ball up the court, whatever you want. 6'9" 260 with that handle is just nasty.

His stroke is also pure, he hits the face up and the 3 and looks natural doing it. he's already a good shooter, just wait til he get in an environment that he gets to shoot more of them.

What Jared lacks in explosive athleticism he more than makes for with knowing how to use that big body of his. he knows how to time the bump, pump and go up to get his shot off against big tall defenders.

This is definitely a one and done type player, but i agree he'll stay 2 most likely. I think he could be our best player next year if Turner goes pro.

    Great post!

Although I don't necessarily agree that he has the offensive game of a 3, you can't say he can play a 3, because he might have the offensive skill set. It works both ways. He can either play the 3, or he can't. And because he can't defend that position, he's not a 3. Dirk Nowitzki has the skill set of a 2 and a 5. But that doesn't mean that's what he is, because he can't defend those positions.
