Florida recruiting gang members?
-
goosebumpsAll you say is "gilyard is a thug" why is he a thug? Or is it bc he looks like one?
-
SpeedofsandGilyard is not a thug. He came out of a small town thug 'hood and made it the hard way. I know, I worked in that 'hood for 5 years and knew half the people in Bunnell.

SpeedofsandHere is the scoop behind the big kid's pics...
Leon said this...
"These Photos are real but they were taken a long time ago i would never jepordize my future with university of florida like that. the pictures were taken in the ninth grade before i even knew i could become a ncaa football player and be critized and also be watched by thousands. i would like to apologize for the photos even being posted but i had never a million years thought such a thing could be posted and taken out of context. these pictures are far from gang related i have never thrown up a gang sign, the sign i am showing is just a representive of my city tarpon springs but never a gang sign i have grown up in violence and drugs all my life and would never sacrifice a way out of my living standards over a picture that has no relevence to gang related activity. And the alleged gun in this photo is just a fake kmart plastic pallet gun"
There are about 200 pics on his myspace, which as of yesterday was public. Go ahead and look through them. Many pics of a kid playing around, taking posed pics. -
darbypitcher22that picture of Da U is hilarious

Little DannyIf Mardy Gilyard played for Ohio State he would be an instant Huddle Legend. The Big Ten Network would produce their first move (ala Rudy). The kid has overcome so much and has done so well off and on the field. He lost his scholarship but remained in school while working two jobs making ends meet. He was sleeping on people's couches and in the back seat of his car but kept his focus on getting that scholly back. Last year, he made national headlines after he hugged the little kid after running into him. This year he was was named 2nd Team AP All-American, All Big East WR and KR.
I don't understand where the "thug" label is coming from. -
thedynasty1998vball is a moron who thinks if you don't play for Ohio State you are either; A. Not good enough, B. Stupid, C. Thug, D. All of the above.
-
sjmvsfscs08I'm fairly certain this is Justin Boren. So let's not say Ohio State is free from recruiting thugs:

Red_Skin_PrideCan we please not turn this thread into another OSU/Cincy piss-fest?
If I was Florida, I would say thanks, but no thanks. It's not like they have no other options right now. -

If this is any indication of the kids English skills, he won't have the grades to make it into Florida anyhow."These Photos are real but they were taken a long time ago i would never jepordize my future with university of florida like that. the pictures were taken in the ninth grade before i even knew i could become a ncaa football player and be critized and also be watched by thousands. i would like to apologize for the photos even being posted but i had never a million years thought such a thing could be posted and taken out of context. these pictures are far from gang related i have never thrown up a gang sign, the sign i am showing is just a representive of my city tarpon springs but never a gang sign i have grown up in violence and drugs all my life and would never sacrifice a way out of my living standards over a picture that has no relevence to gang related activity. I'm not defending the young man, but when you read his rebuttal to the photograph there is a very apparent problem that many of the youth in America have when it comes to writing. You see, many people now write, the way they text. That is why you see so many "young people" having to take remedial English in college. They essentially have to be re-taught how to write.Speedofsand wrote:

What would make you think this? Again, Meyer kept a kid who shot an AK47 assualt rifle after chasing someone down. You think pictures like this would cause them to pull their scholarships? Nada.Hamp89 wrote: No way Florida still offers a scholarship to these guys once the photos came out. No way. Meyer might be a win at all costs type of coach, but this one will never slide with UF's administration. -

centralbucksfan, pay attention. Meyer did not keep him. The player did not chase the other guy, the other guy chased him. The guy had a beef in the club, the player left. Got in his car. Left the location. The other guy chased him down in a car. When the guy came at him in a car he fired a shot into the air to scare the guy off.Speedofsand wrote:

As much as I hate to admit it, this doesn't surprise me in the least. Winning has covered up A LOT with Fla.
That person was not chasing, he was being chased. The AK47 was in his trunk, he got it out and fired a warning shot in the air. He was KICKED OFF the team. Meyer gave him a chance to come back a year later if he lived right. He tried, but failed and Meyer kicked him off for good. -

The kid writes as well as most posters here. Maybe he is better at speaking than writing. Maybe YOU can judge a kid's college aptitude by one paragraph of a statement. Some kids who are already in college, a bigtime QB even, can give the impression of not having brains when they speak. Just like some posters here give the impression of not using brains when they post.se-alum wrote:
