Urban to headline top Michigan recruiting camp
-
imex99as was linked, Urban Meyer will be the keynote speaker at Curtis Blackwell's football camp up in Michigan....
http://www.freep.com/article/2...nstate-spartans
this has traditionally been little more than a launching pad for Michigan kids to go to Michigan---and it reads like a "who's who" in Michigan recruiting....
this year the camp wanted Hoke to be the keynote speaker, but he kept hemming and hawing and wouldn't give them an answer-----so they reached out to Ohio State.
When Meyer caught wind of this, he said "not only will I be the keynote speaker--I will bring my entire staff there for the day"...
when Hoke found out he called the camp and said that his schedule has suddenly cleared up---and he was now availabe---but was told "thanks, but no thanks"....
gotta love Meyer -

Pick6Nice move by Meyer. But is there really any talent in Michigan? Seems like a lot of their better players have came from Ohio. That goes for MSU as well.

I think that there will be players from all over at the camp not just kids from Michigan, it's a good opportunity to get a chance to talk to prospective recruits that you might otherwise not get.Pick6;1197515 wrote:Nice move by Meyer. Sounds all great and "UM #fail" and all, but if you actually read the article...
So... it's not like UM won't be completely out of presence.U-M coach Brady Hoke will speak later Wednesday and MSU coach Mark Dantonio is scheduled to appear Thursday.
Also...
“It’s not recruiting because the coaches wouldn’t be able to attend. It’s an instructional program. Every boy that comes to this camp wants to play college football. Having more than 200 college coaches here over two days is beyond our wildest dreams." -

Urban's speech at the camp. With scUM and MSU in the crowd lol. -
skankIf he did that speech in Michigan, he lied to those kids when he told them "some of the best HS football in America is played right here."
-
WebFireAwwww...does this make you all feel a little better about 6-7 last year?
-
WebFireAlso, your interpretation of that article was just awful.

sleeperUrban is a great coach.

lhslep134The Hoke/Meyer rivalry has potential to be the next Ten Year War. Both get it.

Exactly.lhslep134;1199199 wrote:The Hoke/Meyer rivalry has potential to be the next Ten Year War. Both get it.
I'm excited about the future of the rivalry. It was nice beating up on the guys up north when they had Rich Rod, but I'd much rather see a real smash mouth rivalry football game the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Beatdowns are nice, but they lose a bit of fun if they're expected. Here's to a decade of games that make my heart pound and my body sweat. -

Agreed. Should be some fun times.lhslep134;1199199 wrote:The Hoke/Meyer rivalry has potential to be the next Ten Year War. Both get it. -

Hoke is .500 over a 10 year career. Meyer is one of the most accomplished coaches of the past quarter century. I'd hold off on any Bo/Woody comparisons.lhslep134;1199199 wrote:The Hoke/Meyer rivalry has potential to be the next Ten Year War. Both get it. -

Read my statement. Read yours. Re-evaluate. -
WebFireTo follow up on imex's ridiculous interpretation of this camp, Meyer and Hoke were both "featured" speakers yesterday (there is no "keynote" speaker and no one that "leads" the camp). Also, Hoke's entire staff is on hand and participating, just like Meyers' staff.
Sorry to crush your spirit. -

The "Ten Year War" refers to 1969-78 between Hayes' and Schembechler's teams. By saying "Hoke/Meyer has the potential to be the next 10 year war," it's pretty clear you're drawing a parallel between the two groups of coaches.lhslep134;1199357 wrote:Complete and utter logic fail.

I must say though, I really enjoy your eagerness to use the phrase "logic" ever since you enrolled in your lower tier law school. It's a hell of a gimmick, and one that has a lot of us on the edge of our seats. -
lhslep134
I don't feel like arguing so I'm just going to say that the word potential excludes the possibility of a comparison. Until that potential manifests itself, there is no comparison. That is the logic I was referring to.2kool4skool;1200005 wrote:The "Ten Year War" refers to 1969-78 between Hayes' and Schembechler's teams. Trueblue23Meyer also cried to the OSU compliance office (something I didn't think Osu coaches knew how to do) about the camp. Once he found out it was okay, he was all for it.
