Doc Holliday new Marshall Head Coach
-
ChesapeakeBreaking News out of Huntington!
Holliday is expected to be introduced this evening. -
jordo212000Good hire for Marshall
-
SonofanumpEvidently Mr. Ringo's an educated man. Now I really hate him.
-
SpeedofsandI loved him at Florida. His son Cade is a senior for the Gators. The Urban Meyer coaching tree is growing big and fast.

eersandbeersWho would have thought it would be Marshall who put the final nail into the coffin of the Stewart era? Congratulations on the hire, and congratulations for taking one of the only good coaches WVU has on staff.
I've heard he is taking Dunlap and possibly one other assistant with him. -
Little DannyEers, how long do you give Stew? I know from frequenting the WVU boards Doc was one of the few coaches your fans liked.
-
jordo212000I was listening to ESPN radio yesterday and they were tearing Bill Stewart to shreds

Stew will get the full length of his contract. He is in the "good ole boy" network of West Virginia and the athletic director loves only paying him 800k a year. Winning is a secondary priority for our AD.
Doc's Florida pipeline is a big loss, but I've heard we have someone else on staff who had the real connections to Florida. Plus there are rumors WVU is going to bring Tommy Bowden aboard.
The scary part is Doc's departure could start a mass exodus with our DC going to FSU and our RB Coach heading to Virginia. Those are pretty much the only people worth saving on that staff.
It is a strange situation for Marshall though. Doc was assumed to be next in line when he was hired, so if he does well for 2-3 years WVU will could just hire him back when Stew leaves. If he takes Marshall to a few Liberty Bowls it will be good for them anyways.
That is not hard to do at this point. The man is just clueless and belongs nowhere near a head coaching position.jordo212000 wrote: I was listening to ESPN radio yesterday and they were tearing Bill Stewart to shreds -
jordo212000Probably true that this is just an internship until Bill Stewart finally wears out his welcome
-
NOL fanrumor is that Wyatt Earp is his DC
-
ts1227They going to let him coach the Pizza Pizza bowl or is that still Minter's baby?
-
eersandbeersNew reports are that Doc will be taking WVU GA JaJuan Seider along with him to Marshall. That will completely dismantle any ties WVU has to Florida, because Seider is possibly more valuable than Doc.
Doc is really poaching the staff and it will be interesting to see who follows. -
ChesapeakeI think Doc runs right back to WVU when Stewart leaves.

Just read a story that gave the details of the contract in case this happens.Chesapeake wrote: I think Doc runs right back to WVU when Stewart leaves.
If he voluntarily resigns, and accepts a head coaching position at another college or with a professional team, he signed to pay Marshall a lump sum of $600,000 for each remaining year of the contract. That payment must be made within 30 days of accepting another position.
Marshall Athletic Director Mike Hamrick also has the right to designate one college where if Holliday accepted the head coaching position within one calendar year of his resignation from Marshall, his buyout would increase to $3 million. Holliday would be responsible for paying that amount within 30 days of accepting that position.
Presumably, the designated school would be WVU, where Holliday played and coached for more than two decades.
