It doesn't seem like he cares.

Yeah, he doesnt care, and he's been an assistant there forever. Basically, he's got the school behind him and he's made a lot of money over the years. He would get hired somewhere else if he loses it too.

Why is he stupid? (Because he has the courage to stand for what he believes in.) I agree with him that Gays should not have minority status (extra rights that the rest of us don't have) But I also don't think that I am their judge, that jobs taken.

I think you shouldn't have these extra rights cause you are stooped.

His job is to coach football, correct? STFU and do your job. No need to bring this unwanted attention to the program. I wouldn't want him anywhere near my team, I don't care how good of a coach he supposedly is.

I really don't either. Nebraska can paint whatever picture they'd like and it looks like ignorance in the face of religion is the choice.

Discrimination for any reason is wrong at varying degrees. No matter what degree it is still wrong.

Discrimination is good. We discriminate all the time. Penn State discriminated against a child molester. Alabama discrminated against a guy who partied with strippers before the ink was dry on his contract. Ohio State discriminated against a guy who lied to the NCAA. Notre Dame discriminates against smart football coaches.

Obviously there are bad forms of discrimination also (race for example). But that doesn't make every act of distinguishing between right and wrong as bad discrimination.

Ron Brown merely expressed his personal views on a touchy social issue- period. He didn't abuse anyone, verbally or physically, he didn't commit heinous personal acts against anyone or engage in regretful behavior, and it doesn't appear that he broke or compromised any NCAA or university rules. But yet if he were to be fired for expressing his personal/religious views that go against the current grain of political correctness, wouldn't that be "discrimination" according to the prevailing definition?

He's a bigot, flat out. Who gives a shit how others CHOOSE to live their lives.

Easy there. Name one smart football coach who wanted to coach at Notre Dame in the last couple decades.

Ron Brown can express his views as long as they don't interfere with the University of Nebraska's Non-Discrimination Policy, and he doesn't use his position at the university as leverage to spread his views. He has definitely used his position at the school in his (personal) public speaking engagements by referring to current and former student athletes, the university, went as far as to list his address as the address for Memorial Stadium and inferred that he was a representative of the university.

That alone would be cause enough to fire him. I should note that I'm a Nebraska fan and disagree with his beliefs and religion being pushed around in general at a public institution.

I understand the argument of him possibly misusing his position as a representative of the university, but I don't see the discrimination part. Does he have hiring/firing responsibilities, or does he affect the admission of student-athletes to the university? I don't claim to know Nebraska's policy, but it doesn't seem like Coach Pelini or the AD seem to mind.

There's no 'possibly' about it. He does. And even if he didn't, he would still hold a strong connection to the university because everyone knows him as a coach at Nebraska. Ron Brown, the man, is just another face without coaching.

It's a tough call on what to do about it. He'll claim he has a right to say anything he wants. UNL will back him on that. However, his 5 minutes of ignorance of saying those things will hurt enrollment at UNL. Potential LGBT students and/or those that support them are not going to attend school there. Not because of one man's beliefs, but because the entire university is supporting him by keeping him.

I have to question what would happen if him, or any coach, would have publicly said they didn't like whites/blacks/browns etc. Or if he said he didn't like christians. 100% that coach isn't there anymore because of discrimination. You have to wonder why sexual orientation (protected in their non-discrimination policy) isn't viewed in the same light.

I am getting more an more unnerved about how it is now seen as radical or ignorant to have a view that contradicts societal convention. His scriptural interpretation isn't errant, its just flies in the face of perceived current American values regarding equality. That doesn't make him a bigot it makes him a person who adheres strictly to a code of ethics presented in his religious teachings. The same is said for practitioners of islam, judaism, sikhism, Jainism, and virtually any religion that traces its roots back to the middle east or central Asia.

Ron Brown is allowed to say what he wants and Nebraska is allowed to fire him if they feel he misrepresents their institution. Neither side is wrong in whatever action they choose. I applaud him for standing his ground and voicing his opinion, and have no qualm with Nebraska lawmakers voicing their objection. If his contract is seen as having been violated in any case let arbitrators do their job.

With the amount of success (or lack of) Notre Dame has had in the last 2 decades, it seems that they have been.
