Sporting News Article on Urban Meyer

  Pretty scathing article about Meyer and how the Florida program fell apart his last couple of years. Can't say I am too surprised looking back. And of course, there are two sides to every story. I surely hope he has learned his lesson or we will have Tressel part 2 on our hands. Sounds all to familar to me, having favorites, protecting players, etc, etc.

  First of all, this dude is probably wearing a tin foil hat. Secondly, there isn't a coach out there that doesn't have favorites or protect his players to a certain extent, it's human nature. Also, every star athlete at every college gets preferential treatment, that's not groundbreaking journalism. I've never been a big fan of Urban Meyer, but this article just seems like sour grapes.

  I don't disagree totally with that. But whenever you play favoritism, it will come back to haunt you. Kids are not stupid and see more than people realize. My concern with this, is with OSU coming off of what they are as far as what went down with Tressel. I am sure Meyer is smart enough, or at least I hope, to know what he can and cannot do. As a FAN and ALUM, I do not want to see what we just went through, again anytime in the near future or ever again. I have lived through it in both football and basketball.

  If you follow recruiting, you'll notice Urban has backed off guys with character issues as of late (Diamond, Neal, and currently (allegedly) Foster). It appears that he may have learned a thing or two during his time at Florida.

  An article that seemed like sour grapes got it's information from "sources" who acted like they had sour grapes. Just a circular sour grape-fest. Hack journalism at it's best.

  EVERY COACH shows favoritism to a certain degree one way or another--the difference is having the ability to mask it so it's not blatantly apparent to the other players. It's human nature to favor one person over the other, whether it's because of familial ties, work ethic, common backgrounds, etc. Great coaches are able to blend these 'favorites' with the others as to avoid chemistry issues, but to say that certain coaches don't have favorites is ludicrous.

  Kids aren't stupid and they understand favorites will be played. It's just how it is, regardless of whether you want to believe it or not.
  
  Every coach at every level has favorites. Just the way it is. It's not a big deal. I think some of you worry too much.

  Not a big deal? LOL. So, you don't think the Tressel situation wasn't a big deal? You enjoy going 6-7 this year and watching a bowl game without OSU playing in one next year? Because, that was based on favorites, ala Pryor. Probably lucky the Troy Smith issue wasn't a bigger mess than it turned out to be. Tressel did as much at YSU with Ray Isaac.
  To date, Meyer didn't obviously break any NCAA rules. But if this article is at all partially accurate, its not good.
  Again, I am hopeful Meyer learned his lesson if the article is at all true. I don't disagree that coaches do have favorites. But a good coach doesn't treat the favorite outwardly or blatently in front of other players. To the contrary, they use the best players as examples to send a message that no one gets away with anything.

  I didn't know having favorites meant keeping major violations under wraps? There is obviously a deal of self awareness that goes on with this as well... I don't think Tress kept that under wraps to play favorites...

  Terrible article. Did Meyer destroy Utah or Bowling Green? This is sour grapes nothing more. The more I think about it, the more I truly believe Meyer left Florida because the SEC academic standards are so low that they let any trash in there as long as they can play sports. SEC gets the athletes that don't get admitted into any other conference school.

  Our bowl ban isn't based on Tressel playing favorites with Pryor, our bowl is based on Tressel lying to the NCAA. If you fail to see the difference, don't bother responding because it will be a waste of my time reading it.

  Wow, really? Resort to name calling? How f'ing old are you? And ur calling me an idiot but you can't see the obvious? Why the F do YOU think Pryor did what he was doing? And probably so much more we don't even know about. Because Tressel let him run amok, do what he wanted to do, when he wanted to do it. I know for a fact that Pryor was always the last one on the field, the first one off. He was the one who didn't have his helmet on during practice, while others did. Tressel let him do whatever the hell he wanted to do. That my friend is called favoritism to the extreme. That is WHY Pryor ended doing what he did. Then, Tressel trying to protect his little PET from getting in trouble, as well as trying to cover his own ass.
  I really can't believe I had to explain this. lol Ya, and I'm the idiot. lol
  
  As for Meyer, I am not saying he did or didn't do what was in the article. I am just saying, I hope he didn't, if he did, I hope he learned his lesson. I'd like to believe he is smarter than that to even think of doing these things in the wake of what he just walked into. Simple as that. I have also been around long enough, to know there are two sides to every story. And the truth usually lies somewhere in between.
