Ross just started to practice in Jan. And sorry, and no offense, but there is more to the game than just rolling out the ball. I was "LOL" when I said he wouldn't see the floor this year. Just too far behind. No, its not brain science. But there is quite a bit to it, then add in team chemistry, and what a coach builds from preseason on. OSU was rolling along at that point in time. Big Ten was starting. If there was a glaring weakness or Ross was REALLY needed, I am sure Matta may have given him a chance. OSU is now in the Final Four. I think Matta has managed this team very well.Hb31187;1127522 wrote:I agree making changes THIS late in the year is asinine, but making the change in late January or what not and slowly working him in would of made PLENTY of sense. Unless he has absolutely no basketball IQ im sure he had picked up the offense enough to play in spurts by then. -
PrescottLet me preface this by stating that I have never attended one of OSU's practices nor have I spoken to any of the coaches.I concede that the coaches know more than I. This is my opinion based on what I have seen in the games.
First of all, the NBA draft comment was tongue in cheek.I do not expect Williams to declare, but then again others declare who have zero chance of getting drafted.Someone gets in their ear and promises NBA riches.
My opinion---When Amir Williams has been called on to perform he has performed adequately. He has shown flashes of being an exceptional shot blocker. If given more of an opportunity, he may have developed his game further. Who knows??
Just a Thought---If this is/was a bad practice team that falls on the upperclassman and the other starters, certainly not Williams, Thompson,Scott and others. Work ethic is passed down from one class to the following class.Maybe, practice is an area that misses David Lighty the most. -

Well no shit theres more to the game of basketball than rolling the ball out, but if you've been playing basketball your whole life..It wouldnt exactly be difficult to pick up enough of an offense to give the team minutes off the bench. Its not like hes the PG expected to run the offense, just has to be a part of it.centralbucksfan;1128003 wrote:Ross just started to practice in Jan. I understand you're on a roll now and going to the final 4, I can see that. And I'm not saying Matta should play him now since its obviously too big a stage to throw a freshman in that hasnt been playing all year. The only part I questioned was him not playing earlier in the year, thats it. Because if he were on almost any other team in the big 10, I have a hard time seeing him ride the bench the entire 2nd half of the year -
