HereticStinks for us, but great for the Illini. In four years at Ohio, he took a team in a one-bid conference to two NCAA tournaments, winning a total of three games. Not many small-conference guys can say that and the ones who can match or better it seem content to stay where they're at.
EDIT: Well, if you go by past history, Ben Howland's a minor-league conference guy who has a superior resume, I guess. Pac-12 might have a couple others with good past resumes before their conference became the Sun Belt of the west. -

Hereticlol...did you see the part where I said "the ones who can match or better it seem content to stay where they're at"?
PROTIP: That includes Stevens and Shaka Smart.
Hope this helps. -
stlouiedipalmaIf Groce can show he's a game-day coach he will be successful at Illinois. The last two basketball and football coaches were good recruiters but couldn't tell the difference between an x and an o on game day. If he shows he's got it between the ears the homegrown talent will come. If not, they'll go elsewhere just like they did when Weber was the coach.

Ironman92Will Assistant Dustan Ford get the job?

It's a possibility. Most are hoping OU can lure OU alumnus/former assistant and current OSU assistant Jeff Boals. Hopefully he's willing to come in and take over where his OSU buddy Groce left off.Ironman92;1131424 wrote:Will Assistant Dustan Ford get the job? -
Manhattan BuckeyeI remember Jeff Boals as a player - hope he's a better coach.

lol..me too. Although the team his senior year (Trent's junior) did go downhill down the stretch after he suffered a season-ending injury. He wasn't a good player, but did provide defensive hustle/dirty work minutes that no one picked up the slack on after he went down.Manhattan Buckeye;1131433 wrote:I remember Jeff Boals as a player - hope he's a better coach. -
ts1227Trent has also stated he'd be interested in being an assistant under Boals
-
se-alumI can't imagine Boals turning down the offer if it's extended. Especially with the team OU has coming back next year.

reclegend22With all of the major pieces from this year's NCAA run returning to Athens, Ohio is the hottest mid-major destination in America this spring for an assistant coach aiming to venture out and take over control of a program. I really hope Coach Collins and Coach Wojo in Durham are at least considering interest. This would be a near perfect scenario.
Not sure what Ohio's plans are, though. -
sportswizuhrdWould Geno take it? I know he just got the Bradley job a year ago but could it be the job he wanted?

Ironman92Still hearing Dustan Ford
-
Pick6hearing there is a possibility Cooper leaves the program, whether its to transfer (potentially follow Groce) or play overseas is yet to be determined.
-
SportsAndLadyWould he have to sit out a year or is there some sort of rule where you can follow your coach without penalty?
-

I could be severely mistaken, but I think if a coach leaves you're allowed to transfer w/o penalty? Again, could be wrong.SportsAndLady;1132678 wrote:Would he have to sit out a year or is there some sort of rule where you can follow your coach without penalty? -

I'd assume he would have to sit out a year. But I have heard that he will need that extra year to complete his degree anyways.SportsAndLady;1132678 wrote:Would he have to sit out a year or is there some sort of rule where you can follow your coach without penalty? -

He's stated repeatedly on Twitter that he plans to stay -
Pick6Jim Christian to OU. Cooper can't like this.

Not sure how true this is, but I have already heard that he is considering transferring to Illinois. His twitter account said, "All i can say is wow"Pick6;1134208 wrote:Jim Christian to OU. Cooper can't like this.

yep, I posted about the possibility a few days ago. Wouldn't surprise me if he did, especially with this hire.BlueDevil11;1134211 wrote:Not sure how true this is, but I have already heard that he is considering transferring to Illinois. His twitter account said, "All i can say is wow" -
ts1227Yeah, DJ's tone has changed a little assuming the Jim Christian rumor is true. He was set on staying before, especially had they went with Ford or Boals.

Ironman92Dustan Ford is going to be a bench assistant with Groce at Illinois.
Groce getting $1.2 million a year for 8 years?
