Did you see the team play in November and December? 10 wins would have been considered a great accomplishment at that point. Granted they easily could have won tonight but they are mostly a young team and there is some talent on the way.
They benefited from a weak Big East conference. Tonight, once again they found a way to lose. They have the ball with 12.8 seconds left, down
one and what does The Mock draw up during his last time out. A step back 3 point shot with 8 seconds left. Don't attack the lane for a possible lay up, or dish off to Cooley, neither draw up something which isolates Cooley down low, have your guard chuck a 21 footer when all you need is 2 points. Brey shows his
brilliant coaching prowess once again.
If ND fans are satisfied with around 20 wins a year, hopefully finishing in the top half of the Big East and maybe reaching the NCAA tourney culminating in a 1st or 2nd round loss then Mock Brey is your man! Myself, I believe you need to at least reach a Sweet 16 once in a while, maybe even heaven forbid an Elite 8 run. Greatness is not measured by what you accomplish November-February. It's what you do/don't do in March. Brey's post season resume leaves
much to be desired. Since he's been at ND North Carolina, UCLA, Indiana (twice), Kansas, and Kentucky (twice) have all made coaching changes. None of them gave him a sniff, yet the majority of ND fans label him a great, not solid, not good,
great head coach. Here's to another 10 years of maybe making the "Big Dance" and hopefully getting past the 1st round if they do.
In other news, if John Beilien's going to attempt being cute by taking a page out of Brady Joke's book referring to Ohio State as Ohio, he probably should refrain from losing to the Bobcats in the "2nd" round of the NCAA tournament...
