The answer is there isn't a battle. There shouldn't be anything to defend. Just ignore the idiots questioning it, and carry on.queencitybuckeye;1109804 wrote:I just don't see what he gets for "winning" the battle should he choose to fight it. Fact is though, he is the head of a football program at a public university. That also technically makes him a public employee. The problem with that is, this group has many more options for taking this complaint to the next level. It's not worth it to ignore it. A man in his position HAS to address it, whether most think it is stupid or not. -
dwccrewI guess TCU should get rid of their purple uniforms, along with Washington and any other school that has purple as one of their school colors. Ridiculous

GlassyThis is a great story. It paints the perfect picture of what is wrong with our country. We bend over backwards to please the minorities. Well we shouldnt.
Urban should have said "When you people (sarcasm) make millions of dollars coaching this team, you can make the rules. Until then, STFU.
There is always some place that values your ideas and theories. Unfortunately, this isnt the place. If you dont like our views and values, move the f-ck out to one of those countries with the same viewpoints as yours."
We need to stop changing OUR viewpoints for someone else's. Forget hurting their feelings. Last I checked the gay acting kid in high school got hazed but he kept acting gay. His choice.
Now I know Urban would never say this, but I strongly believe he thought this way. I would have given him a standing O if he actually said that. -

Yes, he should have said something like this so it remained a story and a distraction from what he should be working on. :rolleyes:Glassy;1114717 wrote: Urban should have said "When you people (sarcasm) make millions of dollars coaching this team, you can make the rules. Until then, STFU.
He handled it exactly right. It's a non-issue that is taking up exactly zero minutes of his time. -

I didnt say gays. I said minorities who cry foul every time their viewpoint isnt upheld. Plain and simple. Our country is dissolving because we keep compromising with too many groups of people.FatHobbit;1114733 wrote:It's all the fault of the gheys? -
Dr Winston O'BoogieVery dissapointed in Coach Meyer. If a reporter brought the group's complaint to his attention, he could has simply said, "I'm not even going to dignify that with a response. Next question." I think he set a terrible precedent by sending these people a letter.

Yes, because the first thing anyone should do as a high profile new hire anywhere is to completely ostracize a whole group of people.Dr Winston O'Boogie;1116148 wrote:Very dissapointed in Coach Meyer. I contend that he would not be ostracizing a whole group of people. Were I him, I would bet that most of the gay alumni community could give a hoot about this jersey. As with similar issues, it is the vocal minority that makes the stink. The problem with catering to their whining is that you then establish the pattern of responding to all manner of criticism no matter how ridiculous. Had Meyer refused to acknowledge this, I would be willing to bet that gay Buckeye fans would still be passionate supporters of the program. All he's done is feed into this mentality that some group has ownership of a color and therefore has final say in how the rest of us use such color. It is frankly hard to say that without laughing.LJ;1116948 wrote:Yes, because the first thing anyone should do as a high profile new hire anywhere is to completely ostracize a whole group of people.
Some quarterbacks wair black or green jerseys during practice to protect them from hits. Does this practice somehow suggest that African Americans or Irish people are somehow not up to the rigors of the sport? I don't see how that is any more ridiculous. -
LJ
Maybe, maybe not. The problem is, you can't ostracize a group your first few months on the job. The group is not the "gay buckeye fans" the group is an actual gay outreach group on campus.Dr Winston O'Boogie;1116964 wrote:I contend that he would not be ostracizing a whole group of people. Maybe in your mind. I am 99% sure that the whole point of the response was to show that he cares what the OSU Community thinks about his program. All he's done is feed into this mentality that some group has ownership of a color and therefore has final say in how the rest of us use such color. Anyway, I think the complaint is ridiculous, never said it wasn't. I have actually mentioned on this thread that the complaint is "weak" and made fun of the complaint (Next up, Barney). I just think that the position that Meyer is in, with the microscope on him locally and nationally, he did the right thing. -
voewoodyI agree its total bullshit Coach Meyer has to even respond to this but if I were him I would have the damn players that are dicking around in practice and not putting forth the effort the coaches desire to be the ones that respond to this weak shit. "Sorry scarlet and gay that we have been complete panzies in practice so we have to wear lavender jerseys, we will make sure it won't happen again"
-
mellaWhich Buckeye football player was offended?

Dr Winston O'Boogie
We'll have to agree to disagree. He's in a prominent position and therefore he can set a positive example by essentially ignoring this nonsense. If he then offends a couple of people at Scarlet and Gay, so be it. My point is that I don't think he would risk alienating the homosexual community as most would see this for what it is.LJ;1116971 wrote:Anyway, I think the complaint is ridiculous, never said it wasn't. I understand why he did what he did...likely for the same reasons you agree with. I just wish he would have established himself on this matter as a coach who doesn't tolerate BS stupid crap from media, or others. In my opinion, we're PC'ing ourselves to death. The result is that nothing is genuine anymore. If you include everyone in everything, there's no barometer to show what you really care about. -

The only reason he handled it the way he did was so that something not in his sphere of concern went away in the quickest possible time.Dr Winston O'Boogie;1117369 wrote: I understand why he did what he did...likely for the same reasons you agree with. -

I understand that. I guess I can see why he did it this way - considering how new he is to things. I'd like to think that if it were to happen after he'd been here 5-10 years, he'd tell this group to go fly a kite.queencitybuckeye;1117378 wrote:The only reason he handled it the way he did was so that something not in his sphere of concern went away in the quickest possible time. -
