Duron Carter may be out for the Rose Bowl

Agree with you, there is absolutely no excuse for being ineligible. There is so much help for the athletes that it just shouldn't ever happen. If he's struggling, go to a tutor and have someone write your papers for you.

    ^^^^

that whole writing papers for you thing didn't work out too well at Florida State and some other places.... :D

Back to the topic. I hear Rob Rose is the other player. Not a huge loss, very deep on the D-line

I know this is the football forum, but isn't Georgetown a Big East member, at least in basketball?

I'll take them over any of the Big 10, SEC, etc., aside from UM, Northwestern, and Vandy. :D

    Yup, Rob Rose.

Please kick him off now Tressel.

Kick him off? I don't really follow much about OSU, that seems a little harsh. Does he have some other issues that would cause you to say that?

This is like his 3rd or 4th time being academically ineligible

  • jordo212000
Wonder who threw these guys under the bus?
  • devil1197
    Interesting.

I didn't think Carter was the type to be ineligible, we'll see how this pans out.
  • devil1197
Is the story still popping up for you guys?
  • Mr. 300
Just saw it on ESPN. Carter and Rose out.
  • jordo212000
So why was there report a few hours ago that they were fine? And now they are suspended again?
  • LJ
Anyone read the comments on the ESPN report? I think the morons of the earth post there.

It's the Dispatch (10TV), they try to save face and stay in Tressel's good graces as opposed to reporting the news.

Nobody has confirmed it either way.

    Both sides quoting "sources"

Buckeyes backups might be out for bowl
Carter, Rose will get official ruling today on academic results

    THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Two Ohio State backups, freshman receiver Duron Carter and senior defensive lineman Rob Rose, are expected to learn officially today whether they will be eligible to play in the Rose Bowl against Oregon.

There were reports last night that the two had been declared academically ineligible for the Jan. 1 game, but a source within the team told The Dispatch that the final verdict won't come until today.

"At this time we can't confirm that because not all grades are in," athletics director Gene Smith said. "(Jim Tressel) may know better than me, but my understanding is we won't know until tomorrow."

Nevertheless, it was surprising news about Carter, son of former Ohio State star receiver Cris Carter. He is a freshman who apparently dug himself into an academic hole quickly.

Duron Carter played well in preseason camp and earned a spot in the receiver rotation ahead of several upperclassmen. He played in all 12 games, usually as the third or fourth man in multiple-receiver sets, and had 13 catches for 176 yards and one touchdown.

Rose was in academic jeopardy in the summer and was not with the team when preseason camp opened. But he regained his eligibility and wound up playing in 11 games, getting in on 10 tackles, including two sacks.

The depth of the defensive line, on which eight or nine players saw action in some games, likely would cover for the loss of Rose.

At receiver, junior Taurian Washington and/or sophomore Lamaar Thomas might step into the mix with the loss of Carter. Interestingly, there have been rumors that both of them have considered transferring due to lack of playing time, although coach Jim Tressel said recently that neither has approached him about it. Both have been practicing with the team.

The whole story is stupid. First off, who cares? Secondly, how can it come out that they are ineligible and then it comes out that they are safe, then it's still unknown.

What it seems like to me is, both guys bombed their classes, but now that they are done with the class they are doing some "extra credit" to get their grades up.

apparently Pryor tweeted that carter was at home in florida while they were practicing... I wouldn't cont on him going.

So these are the ineligible guys this year.

Anyone want to start a poll for who the ineligible guys are next year?
  • darbypitcher22
    Can anyone actually confirm yet?
