MAC Season Chatter

If you separate the MAC East and West into separate conferences, you have conference RPI's of 11 and 29...and yet I hear constant complaints about football when the difference is miniscule compared to basketball.

    It's actually a little worse than that. MAC East= 8, MAC West=29

Kent State beats Buffalo and give the Zips a little more breathing room atop the MAC. No game in the East is a guaranteed win.
  • FairwoodKing
It doesn't matter how much breathing room Kent gave Akron. The MAC is only going to get one bid to the NCAA's, so the only thing that counts is who gets hot in the tourney. Don't rule out Kent. They have an issue to settle with Akron.

OU looked like a real team after losing two straight to the LOLWEST. 13-point win at home over BG is good because it avenges an earlier loss. They pretty much to win about every remaining game just to get a good tournament seed. Talent-wise they can be the conference's bid, but consistency-wise, they don't have it right now. Need to use these next couple weeks to try to string wins together.

obviously, but a #1 or #2 seed assures a double bye in the MAC tournament which is going to give you a better chance of actually winning it instead of having to play the 5 games in 5 days or whatever.

Akron, Kent, and Buffalo all lost in the Bracketbuster today. That doesn't look good for the MAC.

Kent lost to Miami tonight. An Akron win against BG tomorrow and an OU win over Buffalo gives Akron atleast a share of the MAC title.

Actually, the #1 and #2 seeds get a triple bye while the #3 and #4 get the double bye.

Kent lost to Bowling Green today and Buffalo beat Miami making the game between OU and Akron tomorrow evening (8PM on ESPNU) that much more important for the Bobcats. Currently, the Bulls have an half game lead on the Bobcats and a full game lead on the Golden Flashes.

    Dear FSU/Miami game,
Please end, I do not give a shit, and Akron/Ohio has already started.
  • ts1227
46-27 Ohio at the half, Akron with 12 turnovers and Ohio cannot miss (save a few dumb shots by Cooper)
  • Pick6
horrible loss for Akron tonight. Hopefully a big wake up call for these guys getting ready to head into the conference tournament.

Ohio mops the floor with Akron, 85-61. They'll have to wait until Wednesday to clinch outright.

    EAST
    Akron 12-2 (20-9)
    Ohio 10-4 (23-6)
    Buffalo 10-4 (17-9)
    Kent 9-5 (19-9)
    BG 8-6 (15-13)
    Miami 5-9 (9-18)

    WEST
    EMU 8-6 (13-16)
    Toledo 6-8 (15-14)
    WMU 6-8 (12-17)
    Ball St. 4-10 (13-14)
    CMU 4-10 (9-19)
    NIU 2-12 (3-24)

Is EMU guaranteed a top 2 or top 4 seed or is it just straight conference records to determine all seeding? I don't think they get the 2 seed but can't remember.

Straight seeding this year. #2 West pity seed is gone.

2 seed will most likely be Ohio or Buffalo (Ohio holds tiebreak if it comes to that)

OU sent a statement tonight. They blasted Akron. Surprising. I still like OU to get the auto bid.
  • dave
Just found it, EMU will be the #4 seed.

Where did you find that? Everything I've seen says they are guaranteed nothing more than what they earn (which is 5 right now)
Recently approved by the Conference's Council of Director of Athletics, the new format will seed both tournaments by rewarding the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds with a bye into the semifinal round, while the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds will receive a bye to the quarterfinal round. Seeding will be determined by winning percentage, regardless of division.

Who knows if that is correct though. They really just need to get rid of the divisions, no need for it in basketball.

it makes scheduling easier. plus I dont Akron want to play any west teams more than we have to. They kill the RPI.

Yep. It was glorious to watch. After the embarrassing back-to-back losses to West Division teams, they've played really well for the last few outings. They just can't suffer any letdowns. Having the #2 seed for the tournament would be great.

Scheduling is not hard, almost every conference that uses divisions in football doesn't in football. You are only talking about a change of a couple games. RPI is irrelevant in the MAC, it's a 1 bid league. What are there, a couple teams with rpi in the top 100?

If the MAC East were its own conference, it would rank 8th in conference RPI. If the West were, it would be 29th. One of the main reasons East schools aren't in the top 100 by this time if the year is because those 6 straight games against teams with an RPI of 250 in the West tanks it.

    Really surprised Kent beat OU.
  • ts1227
    EAST
    Akron 12-3 (20-10)
    Buffalo 11-4 (18-9)
    Ohio 10-5 (23-7)
    Kent 10-5 (20-9)
    BG 9-6 (16-13)
    Miami 5-10 (9-19)

    WEST
    EMU 9-6 (14-16)
    Toledo 6-9 (15-15)
    WMU 6-9 (12-18)
    Ball St. 5-10 (14-14)
    CMU 4-11 (9-20)
    NIU 3-12 (4-24)

All Akron has to do is win for the 1 seed, or lose and have Buffalo lose.
If Buffalo beats BG AND Akron loses to Kent, Buffalo gets the 1 via head to head tiebreak (beat Akron twice).
Ohio can still get the 2 if Buffalo loses to BG AND Ohio beats Miami. Ohio can also fall to the 5 if they lose and Kent, EMU wins.
