Will it ever happen again?
-
sleeperAn undefeated National Champion in D1 college basketball?
Last team to do it was Indiana in 1976. -
DeyDurkie5Simply put, NO
-
wildcats20No.
If it does, it's going to be a smaller school. Similar to what St. Joe's did a few years back. It won't be a big time school. -
sleeperI don't think it'll happen either. The perfect storm could happen though and a team gets 4-5 NBA players as freshman, a couple stay their sophomore year while bringing in another 3-4 NBA players as freshman. That would be a deadly team.
-
thavoiceI think so. I think there will be a team that a few key players stick around longer than expected and make a run at it.
-
queencitybuckeyeYes. Ever is a very long time.

That's just about what Kentucky and OSU did this year with Lamb, Jones, and Miller and Sullinger, Craft, and Buford. They're both great teams, and I don't see them losing more than 3 games, but with that much inexperience and the awesome scheduling we're starting to see between the big programs, it'd still be crazy hard to do.sleeper;1029966 wrote:I don't think it'll happen either. thavoiceYa tend to play a few more powerhouses in OOC games in hoops because it really doesnt matter too much. As sleeper said, could be a perfect storm situation where some guys stay, and maybe your tough OOC games are at home or the other team is struggling a bit.

If Sullinger, Craft, Thomas, and Ross stay all 4 years, Ohio State will be very close to going undefeated.GOONx19;1029983 wrote:That's just about what Kentucky and OSU did this year with Lamb, Jones, and Miller and Sullinger, Craft, and Buford. Little DannyIt will be possible for a team in the right circumstances, but I think conference expansion wil make it tough for most-- particularly for teams in the ACC and potentially the B12 if they add more than West Virginia.
-
vball10setI know you should never say never, but in this case I said no...with the one-and-done rule and the upgraded facilities at mid-major schools attracting star players, the chance of a team going undefeated for an entire season is, imo, infinitesimal.

Laley23I will be 100% shocked if I ever see it. But ever is too long to say no to.
But conference road games make it VERY tough. -

FatHobbitI'm going to say yes. Ever is a long time (as QCB pointed out) and Illinois almost did it in 2005. I think someone will get there eventually.

Azubuike24A few teams have done it in the regular season, or been VERY close. However, the downfall anymore is the NCAA Tournament. The pressure of going, say 33-0 in the regular season, and then having that added pressure of going unbeaten on top of the pressure of the NCAA Tournament is TOUGH.

centralbucksfanAs some have said, never say never. But there are many reasons it hasn't happened in 35yrs. Not to take away what IU did back in 76, but there is so MUCH MORE talent in this day and age, which has created parity nationally. On top of that, with players bolting to the NBA, it creates a very difficult situation to go undefeated. So many variables. As someone mentioned, it would have to be almost a perfect storm for it to happen.
IMO, it would be easier for a team in the NFL to match the '72 Dolphins before we will see someone go undefeated again in NCAA. -
thedynasty1998If it happens in the next 5 years it will be UK and Calipari.

And then 3-5 years later it will be taken away.thedynasty1998;1032611 wrote:If it happens in the next 5 years it will be UK and Calipari. -

Actually, I wouldn't pick them to be even close. Its all one and done in mass. A team full of frosh does not have the maturity to go the entire season without losing.thedynasty1998;1032611 wrote:If it happens in the next 5 years it will be UK and Calipari. -

It only takes a couple freshmen to return to have a good mix.centralbucksfan;1032615 wrote:Actually, I wouldn't pick them to be even close. Its all one and done in mass. A team full of frosh does not have the maturity to go the entire season without losing.
Plus the SEC isn't as brutal as other conferences, so it would line up better for UK than others. I don't think they will, but if I were to bet money it would be for them to do it. -
wes_mantoothI say no.
If those UNLV teams of about 20 yrs ago couldn't do it...I don't think anyone can. -
cat_loverI say no.

BigAppleBuckeyeNo, as the three-point line has leveled the playing field. Teams can get hot from behind the arc and beat any team on any given day.
