Why Alabama SHOULD be in the title game.

If Alabama wanted to prove they were one of the two best, they needed to make freaking field goals.lhslep134;998388 wrote:Rephrase: I want to see what appear to be the 2 best teams play. If osu wanted to prove they were one of the best, they wouldn't have lost to Iowa State -

So using that logic LSU in 2003, LSU in 2007, and Florida in 2008 all didn't deserve to be in the title game?karen lotz;998416 wrote:If osu wanted to prove they were one of the best, they wouldn't have lost to Iowa State -
Y-Town SteelhoundHouston disagrees...
Also if a team can't even MAKE their conference title game, let alone win their conference, they don't deserve to play for the National Title.
Only a playoff would PROVE that Alabama truly is one of the two best teams in the country. -

The BCS National Championship is about pairing the top two teams. The fact that the BCS is in charge trumps what the public might want to see.queencitybuckeye;998390 wrote:Football is about entertainment. Attempting to find an entertaining game trumps the fact that 'bama is probably #2. -

seeing that there is no way to prove who the top two teams are without a playoff, I have to disagree.Mulva;998443 wrote:The BCS National Championship is about pairing the top two teams. The fact that the BCS is in charge trumps what the public might want to see. -

congrats. the so called "#1" defense in all of college football gave up more points, at home, than Citadel and Appy State. LOLlhslep134;998362 wrote:Yes, it is (yardage per game). And what is the point you're trying to make? That because the #1 defense in the country gave up 300 rushing yards in a win against a team that is 7th in ALL of college football in total rushing yards, they're worse than a team that lost to Iowa State?
You're pretty bad at arguing if that's the case. -

But they won. If Oklahoma State wanted a shot, they should have taken care of a much much weaker opponent.Pick6;998479 wrote:congrats. the so called "#1" defense in all of college football gave up more points, at home, than Citadel and Appy State. LOL
What makes you think Oklahoma State isn't a fraud? -

Translation: I don't have a counter argument so let me talk about irrelevant Georgia Southern opponents. -
Pick6
I dont need a counter argument. That was my initial argument, that the Citadel and Appy State apparently have better defenses than Alabama, since stats mean everything. And since stats mean everything, yards per game is inferior to points given up per game.lhslep134;998483 wrote:Translation: I don't have a counter argument so let me talk about irrelevant Georgia Southern opponents.
Also, the year OSU won the Rose Bowl we lost to Purdue and USC. Oregon beat Purdue and USC. Oregon was the better team..right??...RIGHT? -

I'll add 2002 Fiesta Bowl....Ohio State vs. Miami (Fl). Those two teams were loaded with future NFL players.vball10set;998384 wrote:2006 Rose Bowl...USC vs. Texas -

Ummm, playoffs don't decide the #2 team either. Two of the four team in the semifinals could be #2.
Of course, I don't believe that playoffs would necessarily decide the #1 team either. It only does so in theory. -
Pick6
They dont, but you can at least match the 1 loss teams up against each other to prove who is better. No system is perfect, but a playoff system would produce more of a real champion than the current one.Tobias Fünke;998538 wrote:Ummm, playoffs don't decide the #2 team either. What's he's saying is actually pretty valid. When was the last time someone cared more about yards given up than points?lhslep134;998493 wrote:I'm not entertaining the thought pattern of a 5 year old. -

You can't go strictly off of points allowed either. Garbage TDs, like Penn state scoring in the last two minutes against Bama, skew those numbers. That late TD led some geniuses (like Pick6) to think that wasn't a dominating game from Bama. -
Crimson streakWell you also gotta know how bad penn states offense is also. I live near state college so I watch a lot of there games and there offense is worse than ohio states.

I'm not saying it's impossible for you to have a valid point, but your post was literally a thought pattern that a 5 year old would come up with. If you're going to make an argument, make an argument and not some idiotic nonsense.Pick6;998512 wrote:thats what I thought. you lose. -

The point is, the top two rated teams are matched up. That is the system. What the public wants to see, what match up would be the most "entertaining", or whether or not the two teams have already played is 100% irrelevant.Pick6;998476 wrote:seeing that there is no way to prove who the top two teams are without a playoff, I have to disagree. -
athlete37Literally the only argument against bama is that its unfair to LSU. arkansas would ruin ok st

sportchamppsBama and LSU are the best two teams after that who the hell knows. I am not impressed with ok state, ark, vtech, boise, standford or anyone else really. Will this all stop when OK beats ok state tmr

It could be that penn st. has a good defense? How many penn st games have you watched? -
