If Notre Dame is smart they would pay him handsomely and make it so he has no financial incentive to leave. I think Kelly made him Assistant Head Coach or something too this year.

Plenty of guys have realized that being a coordinator for a decade and then taking over is a good deal. It's not like it's particularly uncommon.

How much can they pay him as an assistant though? Rutgers will pay him 2 or 3 million a year; and it's not like ND cant just take him right back from Rutgers if they need a coach haha

Haha I wasn't trying to say he won't be there for long, I meant does he really want to be a DC for "X years" while Kelly is there, when he can become a HC this year and always be a candidate at ND when they need a coach.

Besides the whole conference thing (which is a pretty big deal), Rutgers is actually a pretty decent gig right now. They have a really good recruiting class coming in, which for the most part is staying intact; 4 and 5 star recruits year in and year out coming out of NJ; pretty good fanbase. A good coach could come in right away and succeed at Rutgers in the Big Least.

Schiano had been there for a decade and was making $2 million. Not saying it would be impossible, but I can't imagine they would pay a first time HC that much right off the rip.

I did see on some facebook group that Diaco was not being considered for the job, but the guy said it was behind a pay wall that I don't have access to.

Pernetti said he'll pay the next HC what it takes to get him here. Rutgers can't afford to strike out on this hire, with this recruiting class they have coming in...I mean, it's not THAT great, but for RU its their best ever. They can still get a few more guys too, with a good hire.

He'd be an idiot to not pay someone that will keep the recruits 2-3 million a year.

idk if it's going to be Diaco and it probably won't, I just figured I'd see if you guys had heard anything.

Yeah who knows. Like I said, I think it will still be a couple more years before he is ready for a HC job.

@GregBiggins: Another interesting thing Gus said, if they could have gotten the waiver and paperwork filed on time, both boys would be at ND right now

Armstead is announcing at 3 oclock tomorrow (PST I'm assuming). I'm just going to go ahead and not expect to get him

I guess I will put this here since he was once Notre Dame prospect. Northwestern is getting some talent
Northwestern has announced that former USC wide receiver Kyle Prater has transferred and is joining the Wildcats.

Well, 2013 recruiting is well underway.
“I think everybody is just about equal right now,” he said. “I haven’t really sat down and thought it through about any schools. I’m not ruling any schools out. No schools are really head and shoulders above anybody else, but I’ve been a Notre Dame fan my entire life and everybody knows that I love Notre Dame.
“There’s a few different factors that are in the mix now that I’ve gone through the process a little bit, but Notre Dame is definitely toward the top of the list.”

This o line class will be amazing

Eh that's what we said about the CB class this year, but a series of unfortunate events leaves Notre Dame with 1 CB, when a month ago it looked like they'd likely land four of the top five in the country, as well as Arik Armstead. Recruiting is just fucking crazy.

I personally think Kelly is regretting decisions to slow-play some prospects and is going to go all out early to get people who are good enough signed and not necessarily wait for so many of the super-elite guys if they want to wait.

Agreed. The more I think about 2013 I really think it will be the most important year for Kelly. He would have national title type talent. Facing a decent schedule with the biggest games against teams with first year starting qb's and there at home (except Michigan). This year is going to be tough but I feel like we could go 9-3 with 8-4 more likely
