Will Meyer and Hoke make the B1G a top 2 conference again?
-
cats gone wildWith their recruiting, bringing back Mich, and helping OSU try to turn around from the past 2 seasons.....will the B1G pass the Big12 or Pac 12 in the next couple years? I think they might come back with whats happening at Mich/OSU, adding NEB, PSU getting a fresh coach (could go good or bad), and Wisc doing pretty decent as of late.

j_crazyNot sold on hoke. Want to see a bowl game. He's done nothing on a big stage yet. Meyer provides a name and if he has the will like he had at Utah or UF or BGSU he will do it by himself.

cats gone wildHoke did pretty good for his first year tho and has a great class coming for next year. I think he will be fine.

past 2 seasons? Vacating doesn't mean what happened on the field ( BCS Bowl win) didn't happen. -

All the drama, negative press, etc. Not about the wins/losses. Im not going to argue with bucks fans on this thread (unless it gets out of line), just trying to generate some talk and give somewhat of a compliment.Skyhook79;991746 wrote:past 2 seasons? No idea, but would it surprise anyone if they havent even really looked into it yet? -
Falcons53Penn State will be the key. Whether Big 10 lifers want to admit it or not, they are a marquee name. If they hire the right guy and compete on a national level again like they did in the 80's through the late 90's (and for a short stretch 2005-2009, but mostly the 80/90's) then the entire conference benefits. Time will tell if the circumstances there effect how they travel. Attendance and TV ratings at bowl games is always way up when they are one of the teams. Will they still be on that level in the coming years?
Michigan is on the rise. Wisconsin should be 12-0 right now and playing for the right to play an SEC team for the NC, Ohio State will rebound, Nebraska will be a solid add. I expect the Big 10 to be a solid #2 conference next year and could compete in the coming years with the SEC for top dog. -
se-alumWe'll have to see how Hoke recruits in the upcoming years when he doesn't have the help of an OSU scandal.
-
Pick6Big 10 is a top 2 conference already.
-
KnightRyderwhat do you mean again? they havent been a top 2 conference in 40 years

yea like they did in the 80's when they played brown , colgate, william and mary, temple. talk about the sisters of poor . joe pa had more cupcakes than the neighborhood bakery.Falcons53;991760 wrote:Penn State will be the key. gorocks99B1G top teams will be very good to national-title-contending good for the foreseeable future, but for the conference to really move to "elite" status we'll have to see improvement from the middle- and lower-tier teams. Some of Northwestern, Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana and Purdue will have to pull good seasons and have "marquee" players like was happening in the 90s (Purdue with Brees, Northwestern with Fitzgerald) and early 2000s (Illinois with Kittner, Minnesota with Barber and Maroney). Right now none of those teams have national-name guys.

any talk about Golden over there?cats gone wild;991754 wrote:And is Mullen coming to PSU? Just alot of talk on another board about it. -
sleeperI'd already put the B1G above the SEC West. Nobody cares about the SEC East.
-
dat dudeMullen to PSU is really picking up steam. Also, Illinois will be hiring a new coach. I'd love to see them hire Leach, but I doubt. Tim Beckman may be an option.
-
GOONx19The B1G is a Top 2 conference right now, at worst.

I agree that Hoke did well his first season, but they had a pretty light schedule. No Wisconsin or Penn State. They played 2 ranked teams and went 1-1 against them. Not trying to take away from what Hoke did, but Michigan had it easy this season.cats gone wild;991745 wrote:Hoke did pretty good for his first year tho and has a great class coming for next year. Cleveland BuckThe Big Ten is already a top 2 conference. They aren't ahead of the SEC because they get an extra recruiting class every 4 years, but none of the other conferences have the depth of Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Penn State, Michigan State, Iowa etc.

Pick6Mullen would be a good fit for PSU

I was speaking more in terms of the epic fail hoke had his last year at Ball state. I don't think he has a good bowl record but I don't know off the top of my head. -
the_systemThe Big 10 should be loaded next year. OSU, Michigan, and Nebraska all return a ton (assuming players don't leave early).
Meyer and OSU will get their wins. Michigan is back on the right track. Pelini is on the right track at Nebraska (He'll have 3 straight 10 win seasons if they win their bowl game and will be 4-1 in bowl games.) He's relatively new as a head coach and will only get better I think.
It will be interesting to see how Wisconsin does if Ball leaves early and how they will replace a mobile/athletic QB like Wilson next year. Without him they become a LOT easier to gameplan for.
