Who wins in a game matching 1999 Ohio State vs. 2011 Ohio State?
-
BigAppleBuckeyePrior to this season, the worst OSU team I had ever seen was the 1999 team that went 6-6, including embarrassing losses to Miami (23-12), Wisconsin (45-17) and Illinois (46-20).
Do you think the 2011 Buckeyes would beat that team head-to-head? I think the '11 Buckeyes would have trouble accounting for Michael Wiley, but I think that 1999 porous defense could not contain our running game (that Ron Dayne game was just pathetic, OSU blew a 17-0 lead). Ultimately, in a game of MANY mistakes, I think Bellisari makes more than Miller and 2011 Buckeyes win 17-14. -
krambman2011 Buckeyes would win and they would do it by more than a TD.
This is possibly the most depressing thread ever on the OC. -

I'm afraid that may come next weekkrambman;980436 wrote: This is possibly the most depressing thread ever on the OC. -
dwccrew2011 Buckeyes would win. Both the '99 team and '11 team followed two very successful teams from the season before. 1999 lost a lot of key players. 2011 has lost the coach, an even bigger loss. But the 2011 team has more talent, albeit young talent, than the '99 team.

GoJPM!Too close to call.......lol Lot of similarities. If OSU upsets Michigan this week, then this team will shed any tag putting it in the same boat as the '99 team.
This team's performance against Michigan will certainly define this this year's season. The '99 team actually played Michigan pretty tough and didn't roll over, despite losing the game. -
BigAppleBuckeyeThere are indeed a lot of similarities between the teams:
Both lost to Miami away from Columbus
Both blew leads of 17+ points to marquee conference opponents
Both changed starting QBs early in the season, opting to go with the younger, more mobile option
Both (likely) go into Ann Arbor as underdogs
Both led by a much-maligned coach
Both featured arguably OSU's worst collection of wide receivers in the past 25 years (Rambo, Germany and Provitt? ouch)
Both (likely) will finish 6-6 (hope this isn't the case)
Both may not play in a bowl game -
MulvaThe 2011 team should win that game, but the 2011 team should also have 8 or 9 wins right now.
-
GoJPM!The '99 team did lose five of their games by double digit margins.....ouch. So, maybe the '11 team is better in that regard. The suckiness level was a bit higher with the '99 team.

A 6-6 OSU team will get a bowl bid only due to the fact that I dont think there will be enough bowl eligible teams to fill the bowls last I heard -

How many teams does/will the B1G have bowl eligible? They have regularly fallen short of the 8 needed to fill all of their bowl contracts as of late, if that's the case again they would be guaranteed a bowl. -
Classyposter581999 was in a much better Big 10 though too. Wis, UM, MSU and PSU were all very good that year and Purdue and Minn actually had talent

Was talking more about possible NCAA sanctions that result in a postseason ban. I doubt it happens, but it remains a possibility.LJ;981168 wrote:A 6-6 OSU team will get a bowl bid only due to the fact that I dont think there will be enough bowl eligible teams to fill the bowls last I heard -

Im not sure. They were talking about FBS wide not having enough teams lol -

The B1G currently has 9 bowl eligible teams and if Purdue beats Indiana next weekend they will have 10.ts1227;981180 wrote:How many teams does/will the B1G have bowl eligible? I thought they've been getting the 8, but the problem has been they get 2 teams in the BCS. -
FootwedgeMt. Union beats both of them.

I think once they had 8, but 2 BCS's bumped everyone up one, thus their last Bowl obligation (Pizza) went unfilled.Terry_Tate;981645 wrote:I thought they've been getting the 8, but the problem has been they get 2 teams in the BCS.
Pizza/Motor City Bowl is B1G #8, and they have only had enough teams to fill it twice since 2000. -

This is a sarcastic comment, right? Hard to tell on the internet.Footwedge;981865 wrote:Mt. Union beats both of them. -
darbypitcher22The 2011 team would win.
Then Marco Cooper would bust out the ecstasy and start gaking people. -
Little DannyWould Steve Bellasari get a DUI before the game?

sleeperI'll take Braxton and a bunch of jokers over a bunch of jokers.

OneBuckeyeI know who loses. OSU fans.

Hell, Mount Union would beat this year's Colts team too.dwccrew;981989 wrote:This is a sarcastic comment, right? Hard to tell on the internet. -

Well that is probably true though.Footwedge;982637 wrote:Hell, Mount Union would beat this year's Colts team too.
