Mount union vs. Akron
-
BearBoy69Who would win this game? On top of that could mount compete in the MAC? I think mount could beat Akron but it's an amusing question to ponder
-
queencitybuckeyeAkron would beat Mount by at least 30.
-
BearBoy69Have you seen Mount play? I dunno. I'm saying it'd at least be close

Yes, I've seen them, and they're great - at the D3 level. I also played at that level, and understand the difference between a D3 athlete and a D1 athlete. Mt. Union is at the top tier of D3, but their players are D3 for a reason.BearBoy69;978869 wrote:Have you seen Mount play? I dunno. I'm saying it'd at least be close -
BearBoy69Yes I totally agree. But mount has produced more pros than them the past few seasons I believe
-
FootwedgeIt would be a very close game. Akron is horrible and Mount Union has plenty of players that selected D3 over playing D1. Pierre Garcon, anyone?
In hoops, D3 stud teams hammer D1 squibs all the time. Happens in baseball sometimes too. -

Six years ago, national signing day came and went and the now Indianapolis Colts wide receiver didn’t get a single scholarship offer.Footwedge;978885 wrote:It would be a very close game. Akron is horrible and Mount Union has plenty of players that selected D3 over playing D1. Pierre Garcon, anyone?

There's Garcon. There was a kid named Chris Kern who played two games for Detroit in 2004. That's it for the last 20+ years.BearBoy69;978875 wrote:Yes I totally agree. But mount has produced more pros than them the past few seasons I believe -

hoops23If you have D1 offers, you're not going to "choose" to play at DIII.
Not only do you have to pay for school at DIII, but the level of competition is far below D1.
Pierre Garcon, as mentioned, received no interest from D1 schools. He's a diamond in the rough and his hard work paid off.
However, it's very rare for a DIII player to make it into the pros.
Also, Footwedge, proof of DIII teams winning all the time against D1 teams in hoops?
As for the question, Mount Union would get hammered by Akron. -

Thanks, I stand corrected. Three in the last 20+ years, which is a hell of a lot for a D3 program. But it doesn't mean, as some imply, that it's a D1 program in D3 clothing.pnhasbeen;978900 wrote:Cecil Shorts III -

Be prepared for one or two anecdotal examples (it does happen, but pretty rarely) that will "prove" his point. All the time? Not remotely.hoops23;978901 wrote: Also, Footwedge, proof of DIII teams winning all the time against D1 teams in hoops?
Edit: found these records of d3 vs d1 in basketball. These came from a bulletin board so there's no vouching for the accuracy, but I wouldn't be surprised if they aren't close:
2005-2006 season - 2-66
2006-2007 season - 1-44
2007-2008 season - 1-32
2008-2009 season - 1-35 -
Tobias FünkeOne of my friends went to play at Mount Union as a QB, and he was something like fourth or fifth string as a freshman and ended up transferring to a FCS school.
Most, yes most, of the guys starting at Mount Union could play on a Big Ten team as a walk-on. There are guys at Mount Union who are better than Ben St. John at Ohio State, that is certain.
A lot of times a player is fast enough for D-I but doesn't have the size. Blair Skilliter and Nate Kmic are good examples. Considering how well coached Mount Union is (from just an execution standpoint), they could definitely beat Akron. -

No one chooses D3 over a D1 scholarship offer. Some guys transfer to D3 schools after realizing they are not good enough to play at that level.Footwedge;978885 wrote:It would be a very close game. D3 basketball programs are closer to competing against D1s because it is only 5 guys and teams can get hot. The disparity in football comes in numbers. -
KR1245I was on the sidelines for the Akron vs OSU game this year. I've also been on the sideline of a Mount game. The difference is night and day, the kids at Akron are bigger, stronger and faster. Akron would win this game by 4-5 touchdowns

Con_AlmaI can't believe this is even a question.
-
Pick6Yes, Akron is probably the worst team in D1.
With that said, you are incredibly stupid, or the biggest MU homer ever if you think they could compete. -
Tobias Fünke
I am not. Hell I was as good as some of the body bags on that team. I'm not saying they'd come anywhere close to starting.ytownfootball;978971 wrote:I believe, you sir, are stoned.
Even at UT, I would see the OG's at parties and they were just 6'1ish and just plain fat. I could hang with those guys and plenty of guys starting at Mount Union could too. -
hasbeenI've played against mount. They aren't as good as they were a few years ago. They would compete because of coaching but a roster of d1 guys will beat a roster of good d3 guys and a few d1 guys
-
FootwedgeActually, in reality, Akron would beat Mount Union most likely. Akron would be favored by about 21 points. Just wanted to see who wanted to jump my bones.
-

stick to wrestling or something. Mount couldnt beat the best d2 teams. There is a pretty big jump in talent in each division.Tobias Fünke;979053 wrote:I am not. Hell I was as good as some of the body bags on that team. I'm not saying they'd come anywhere close to starting.

SonofanumpAkron sucks. MU is the best D3 program in the nation. I'll take Akron and give you 32 points.

I'll take Ashland with the backup QB (since Houseright is hurt) and give 10 points.Pick6;979071 wrote:stick to wrestling or something. Mount couldnt beat the best d2 teams. There is a pretty big jump in talent in each division. -
BearBoy69I'm still saying Mount could at least hang with Akron i think Ashland may even beat Akron.
