Because facts have never been important to Mr. Freeman, whether it be in his articles, on his Twitter, or on his resumedazedconfused;976976 wrote:why would freeman retweet it if he wasn't positive that it was true?

dwccrewPersonally, I think now is the time to announce if it is Urban Meyer or not. The team is falling apart (their performance on the field in the last 2 games is a testament to that) and they don't seem to be playing for the staff. Announcing an ultra successful coach will be coaching you the next season would light a fire under these kids butts IMO. Recruits would flock to OSU (especially the ones about to jump ship at PSU) and it would also end the rumors about Meyer coming to OSU that I am sure are a distraction in the locker room also.

HitsRusI voted Fickell...but it's a soft vote based on him beating PSU and UM...and winning a bowl game. That's a big IF.
Yeah, If JT was listed as a choice I'd have voted for him back......never should have been fired in the first place. -
0311sdpYes, he should have been fired. As much as I respect the great job JT did at OSU, he knew what he was doing and knew if he got caught he was done. He rolled the dice and lost just to save a jerk like TP who in the end doesn't give two shits about Tressel or OSU.

vball10setIMO, the biggest knock against Luke Fickell is that this team hasn't gotten any better since the Wisky game. That win should have been a springboard to victories over Indiana, Purdue, Penn State, and maybe, tsun. Intead, we have regressed each game, especially on the defensive side of the ball, and the offensive play calling has been abyssmal. Someday, with his own staff, he may be a successful head coach---but not now.

HitsRusToday's loss was a nail in the coffin. Even a win against UM doesn't save his job. He'll need the help of the NCAA to really put the hammer down so that no one will want the job.
-
dat dudeAmuses me that people don't want Urban Meyer. He's only won 2 national titles in the 6 years he's coached at a BCS school. smh
-
HitsRus^^^I don't think it is a matter of "not wanting Urban Meyer". But from my standpoint, The value of coaching continuity and program consistency cannot be discounted both in terms of team performance and abilty to recruit. If you hire a coach that will only be there a few years, he barely gets his players in place before he is leaving. Also it makes it more difficult to recruit towards the latter years as prospective players are uncertain who their coach will be in a year or two. To that point, I was hoping that Fickell would show enough that one could be fairly certain that he was a young lion that could serve for 20 years. Certainly that might have been the case IF OSU had won out after the win over Wisky....but the losses the past two weeks have exposed weakness....most likely fatal in terms of his ability to take the reigns immediately at OSU.
-
vball10setOne point that fails to be brought up when discussing Meyer jumping ship erlay is that he's from Ohio, played in Ohio, and calls Ohio his home. What better place to end your career than in your hometown, being the HC of one of the premier football teams in the country? It's a done deal....period.

Based on what has gotten the tOSU program where it is today, perhaps one could believe there are other criteria than just this one?dat dude;979957 wrote:Amuses me that people don't want Urban Meyer. He's only won 2 national titles in the 6 years he's coached at a BCS school. smh -

Fickell was never meant to be anything more than a placeholder. Ohio State is not the place you let your coach do his on the job training; Fickell knows this, and was likely told when he took the job that he wouldn't keep it. However, a deal may have been made that he'll remain on the staff of the new coach for at least a year so things can sort out (he'll either take a head coaching gig at a smaller school to get experience, or the next coach like his work and keeps him.)HitsRus;980366 wrote:^^^I don't think it is a matter of "not wanting Urban Meyer". As for Meyer...IF he's the guy (and I surely hope he is) making the assumption he's only going to stay a few years is just that; a major assumption.
If he stays 10 years, he gives OSU about the same amount of time as most coaches have, outside of Woody who was a major exception.
That would be more than enough to create continuity and bring in top recruits that will re-invigorate a program that was due for a down period. The key is to keep that down period to a year or two at most, before rising back up.
Meyer can do that and will, if he's hired.
He's the perfect candidate for OSU: an Ohio-born guy who loves OSU and its history; someone who has strong ties still back in Ohio and would have no problem getting instant credibility with Ohio high school coaches.
Let's hope it happens sooner, rather than later. -
vball10set^^^good post...reps

As far as I know, Urban Meyer has never had any NCAA violations. That's pretty important too.queencitybuckeye;980481 wrote:Based on what has gotten the tOSU program where it is today, perhaps one could believe there are other criteria than just this one?
I've talked to a lot of people that want Meyer and a few that do not want him. The ones that don't want him are concerned that he will not be at OSU long. I think OSU has always been the job Urban Meyer wanted as a college coach. He now has the perfect opportunity to take the reigns. I don't think he leaves it for anything else (job-wise) and I don't believe he will "retire" after 6 years like he did in FL. JMO, but I think he would give Ohio State a good 10 years before calling it quits. -
