  Would you be upset that Brian Kelly left? If it was me, I would of been okay if he went after the bowl game. BUT, to skip the bowl game, you are letting your team down. What are you really going to do at ND in that time? Recruits aren't really going to sway that much this late. Your thoughts?

  "He went for the money," Gilyard told The Associated Press. "I'm fairly disgusted with the situation, that they let it last this long."
  
  Players weren't told of Kelly's decision until the banquet ended, nearly three hours after the news first broke. A few blinked back tears as they left.
  
  "We already knew what he was going to say. We weren't giving him a round of applause or anything," tight end Ben Guidugli said. "It's like somebody turned their back on us. We brought this whole thing this far. We've come this far. To have someone walk out now is disappointing."
  
  "I don't like it," Gilyard said before the banquet. "I feel there was a little lying in the thing. I feel like he'd known this the whole time. Everybody knows Notre Dame's got the money. I kind of had a gut feeling he was going to stay just because he told me he was going to be here."
  
  Quarterback Tony Pike said Kelly told them last week, before their title-clinching win over Pittsburgh, that he was happy in Cincinnati.
  
  "The Tuesday when we were practicing for Pittsburgh, he said he loves it here and he loves this team and loves coaching here and his family loves it here," Pike said.

  Sounds like they are upset they were lied to. Just another classless coach who will be without a job within 5 years.

  Would you really want a lame duck coaching the bowl game anyways? I wouldn't want a traitor who didn't want to be at my school coaching a bowl game.

  I agree. Gutless. What happened to accountability that he preached to his team? Then he does this? Wait until the bowl game is over! Geeze.

  It would be a conflict of interest in he coached in the bowl game and was still recruiting. It should be an NCAA policy where coaches can't be contacted and hired until after the bowl season so that it's not on the coaches.
  
  The UC players are frustrated right now, but I imagine that with some time they will understand.

  But coaching your team thru the bowl game is the right thing to do. You committed to these coaches and players in the beginning of the season, and leave now? No.

  Maybe they can go cry on the shoulders of the CMU players he left behind a few years back. But then, I'm sure Gilyard and Giudugli weren't calling their soon-to-be coach a liar back then now were they?

  The reaction from UC fans and players shouldn't be surprising. We see coaches handle this situation the same way each year. Last year it was RichRod, year before Petrino, etc...
  
  I agree with something I heard the other day and that is college coaches should be required to coach out their contracts. All other sports associations/work world careers require people to work out the terms of their contract. Not sure why college coaches are treated so differently but that is the nature of the game.
  
  Like I said in the UC thread I pray that Tommy Tuberville takes this job because I think he will be someone to bring continuity to the program. I don't remember much about Auburn but did he run a pro-style or spread offense?

  You're kidding right? Nick Saban had 3 years left on his contract with the Miami Dolphins when he bolted for Alabama.

  and face it, it is a meaningless game anyways...the national championship game is all that matters in todays college football landscape...
  
  it is sad to say but if we were in a playoff scenario, i HIGHLY doubt he leaves...

  I am kidding as I heard it the other day in an article on a major sports site. I didn't do the leg work to see how accurate the statement was. I made the mistake thinking a journalist did his homework

  If I was a UC player I'd be pretty upset, especially when the guy looked his team in the eye during Pitt week and said he was going to stay... but this shouldn't suprise anyone. its not thefirst time he's done this, and I doubt its the last

  He is fulfilling the terms of his UC contract. He left before 2010, so he pays them back a million bucks. If there is a buyout clause you can't bitch that he exercised it.

  yeah, too bad you are not allowed to contact recruits in january, therefore kelly has to leave right away or his new employer loses a year of recruiting.

  The players are mad that Kelly left, but for the most part they get it. But Kelly completely fucked up what was going to be a bad situation any way. That is why so many of the players are rightfully pissed off. He did not address the team about his decision before the banquet tonight, he told them afterwards of his decision. He was very upfront with the team when this all started, but he completely botched it in the end. The word broke when the team was on the buses headed to the banquet, and when they arrived Kelly still didn't address things to the team as he should have done. He also took the ludicrous step of walking into his own teams banquet with an off duty police officer by his side. A seizable portion of the team thought he was gone as early as the Illinois game, him going isn't that surprising to anyone. There is a right way to do this and a wrong way, and the way he has handled the past week has been laughably inept.

  He wasn't going to please anyone no matter how he addressed the move. Honestly, I think he did the right thing by waiting till after the banquet, it's for the players and staff, why ruin it by focussing the entire evening on yourself rather than the attention where it belongs, on everyone else.

  This will just be 5 more years of Weis.....good offense, no defense 7-5 records each year. He won't beat Michigan or USC. for a few years.

  On another note, this is bringing back memories when rich rod left for Michigan and didn't stick around for West Virginia's Bowl game. WV went on to win their bowl game, and Michigan has sucked ever since. It's a gutless move to leave, I liked Kelly before this event, but now I hope he does terrible at Notre Dame.

  Except Brian Kelly knows how to coach. They had pretty comparable schedules this year, only Weis had way more talent and Weis went 6-6 and Kelly went 12-0. And Michigan blows....even Weis beat Michigan.

  Would you like to tell them that? Do you think it is meaningless to them. They are playing for an undefeated season in a BCS bowl. That is far from meaningless.
