SEC "Speed"

Top to bottom I would agree the SEC is a little faster, but top 5 against top 5, not much difference. The difference is mostly in the lines, maybe some at LB, you don't see many Storm Kleins (no speed at all) in the SEC. Shazier and Grant would give OSU great speed at LB , (still haven't figured out why Shazier doesn't play more).

Did "Partly Cloudy" Klein make a single tackle last Sat. night? Seriously I was at the game and I can't recall seeing a single highlight on the Big Screen of him.

What about the other SEC teams? Cant think of any other SEC teams who might have speed "advantages" other than Florida.

Just other SEC fans riding the coat tails of another conference team's success.
As much as it pains me to admit it, it's partially true.

Contrary to many SEC fan's belief, SEC players, inherently, are not faster than any other conferences' players. I think the big difference between the SEC and any conference, in general, are the defensive lines in the SEC. On average, I think their defensive tackles, and especially their defensive ends, are faster than, say, the B1G, Pac-12, BIG XII, etc.

The other thing that most people tend to ignore is that the SEC has lower requirements for grades and test scores, so the SEC can accept the athletes that are just that... athletes... while the other conferences cannot accept these students (which they dearly would love to) because the players do not meet the academic requirements.

It was either Colin Cowherd or Doug Gotlieb who had an excellent segment on this whole topic/debate. The other conferences just simply can't compete with the SEC because of their lower academic requirements.

Can't compete with the SEC? I think you need to check their head to head records against other conferences. I know they are pretty close to the B1G, and I'd bet money they are close with the B12 and the Pac12 too.

If the lines are so great, then why don't the SEC lines get drafted at a rate greater than that of the other conferences? The B1G puts out great defensive lineman year in year out, and I'd put them up against anyone.

They do, if you did some research instead of spouting off.

Oh yeah, cuz Glenn Dorsey really panned out. Or how about Nick Fairley? Isn't he sitting the bench somewhere rotting away? I can't think of one SEC lineman who isn't second string right now.

There's a word for this. Overrated.

Vernon Gholston has had a career worthy of being the 6th overall pick.

I believe it was Dline, and I believe it was starting, not second string players.

Cool. Since you have all the facts at your disposal, please tell me what the 3 best offensive lineman in the league are and what conference they come from.

Hint, its not the SEC. LOL

Zero career sacks for the 6th overall pick, who happened to be drafted to one of the best defensive teams in the NFL. He was such a pussy, that coaches had to have someone intentionally start a fight with him to see if he would even defend himself.

What side of the ball do Glenn Dorsey and Nick Fairley play on? And now you want to talk about offensive linemen?

I agree he was terrible. There are always players that upon leaving the B1G and going to the NFL lose the motivation to be great. Gholston finished up his degree to, and probably has a real job unlike a lot of SEC busts that end up at your local McDonalds.

Neither of them play. They sit the bench.
